"Relax. These things happen." My mother said, sighing, but I could tell from her lips spread thin as her bunned up blonde hair fell from her neat little bun that she was angry. The computer lay in shambles at my feet, and I cried a little. I almost said, 'Its all Ashleys fauly' but I knew she was annoyed, because my mother is very proper, and when a few strands of silky like blonde hair is out of place, she hasn't had enough time to fix it, I know shes busy and angry.1
I can't blame her. I haven't exactly been helping, but hey, I'm only 12 and my parents just got divorced and I will never see my dad again, but I couldn't care less. I can live with my mom. 2
I sighed again and walked up the stairs. My elder sister Ashley and my younger sister Emma rushed towards me, and as they passed I grabbed Ashley's blonde pony tail and yanked it. "Oww." she moaned, slapping my hand. "MOOOOM! Rebekah hit-" 3
SLAM! My door shut out her stupid wailing, and my mom stupid screaming and the stupid fizzling of the stupid broken computer that was all Ashleys fault. The only one I could ever turn to where my friends, but they're in Michigan and I'm in Colorado. I had no computer anymore, thanks to my sister, but my cell phone works. I texted my bff Emily, waited a few minuets then threw my phone in my purse and headed into the bathroom.4
I straigtened my hair and put my MSU shirt and a pair of GLO jeans with some black croc shoes. My bathroom is small, with a little vanity mirror/Medicine cabinet, with a shower stall in the far corner, a sink and a toilet. It was covered in red and white rosey wall paper and had a white tile floor. 5
The tile converted to lavender plush carpet that covered my room. My bed was a lovely laveneder, rose pink and black polka dots and assorted stripes, with four pillows and two throw pillows, a brown oak headbord and a step down. It had oak bed posts, and a silky purple canopy that hung from them There was a mirror with a tack board on the far left wall, covered with pictures of my and my friend back in Michigan, and below that was a desk with a bunch of small drawer made of red maple. They had little handles of silver.6
On the other side was a cream colored bedside table with an alarm clock that read 8:10 in green neon numbers, and a white lavender and rose painted walls, with a white ceiling. There was a lavender closet that held my fancy stuff, and a window that looked over my neighbors house. There were white drapes and creame colored blinds.7
I picked up my purse and headed down stairs. "Mom, I'm going out." I called. I reached for the brass doorknob when Emma tapped me. 8
"Mommy says you have to stay." she moaned. I pushed her away and opened the door and slammed it behind me. I was down the drive on my moterscooter, when my mother screamed out the door at me.9
"Rebekah Marie Sima, you get back in here!" she screamed, pushing our dog back with one leg. "No! I hate that stupid house and everthing except my dog and my pictures!" I yelled back. My mother groaned in exasperation and called back into the house. Ashley came and dragged Turney back into the depths of the house.10
Mom slammed the door and started marching down the drive at me, bare feet slapping the pavement. I fired up my scooter and glared at her as the droning almost drowned out her words.11
"Ashley never had this problem when she was your age!" she screamed at me. I rolled my eyes. "You didn't drag Ashely away from her home and her friend when she was twelve! You didn't rip her dad away from her when she was going through puberty!"12
"Rebekah, I know you don't like it here, but your going to have to deal with..." "You didn't destroy Ashleys life when she was twelve! You didn't..." our screaming overlapped each other, but pretty soon I just started my scooter and zipped off.13
She looked down the road after me. "As hard as I try, nothing I do is ever good enough! REBEKAH!" I didn't listen. 14
Ch. Two15
I didn't get home that night till twelve, and when I did I still had no reply from my friend, and I just chucked my purse at my mirror, changed into my duckie pajamas and went straight to bed. I did my math homework at 6 o'clock in the morning, took a shower and got dressed. My mom hadn't made my breakfast so I poured myself some Special K water and headed out the door with my stuff. 16
"BY BEKAH!" Emma screamed after me, I smiled and waved to her. It was fall, the leaves falling off the maple trees that are high in the Colorado mountains and decorating the ground in blotches of red, orange and yellow.17
The bus came and dragged me off to the hellhole that is school, and then it dragged me back to my hellhole of a home. When I walked in the door, there was bloodsplatter on the wooden flooring and I followed it to a sobbing Emma. 18
"Mommah... kicked Turney and killed him! She has to go to jail for a year!" Emma sobbed, buiring her face into my shirt. I pushed her away. "Can't Ashley help you?"19
"She disappeared this morning!!" Sobbed Emma. I knew then that we were really alone. I sighed and drew her into my arms.20
"First things first, lets clean this up. Then, we go get a new Turney." 21
She sniffled and smiled up at me, and rushed to get a washcloth.22
