Internal Expamination (Rewriten w/ different ending)

Jessie was always well known for drawings and personality. She was one of the most popular kids at college; rewards and certificates placed on a dresser in frames, to her hard work. She had a great fiancee and a baby on the way. The room is decorated in some stuffed animals and artistic drawings hung over a purple and white stripped bed. Many pictures of her and her fiancé placed on a shelf above her dresser. The phone on the bedside stand begins to ring. Jessie, still in a towel, comes out of the bathroom running. Her stomach pressed against the towel showing the growth of being six months pregnant. She grabs the phone quickly, “Hello?” The shower could be heard steadily running in the background of Jessie’s voice. “Jessie! Bad news, sweetie.”Replied her fiancé.1

“What’s the bad news this time, Jason?” She asks in a disappointed voice.2

“I have to work tonight . . . I promise I will make this up to you tomorrow. I’m so sorry, Jess.” Jason replied in a sympathetic voice. 3

“It’s ok.” She answers with a slight sigh in her voice. “Just wish we had some time to ourselves.”4

“I just want to give you and the baby a good home . . . I promise I’ll make it up to you Jess. Tomorrow we can go to the football game.” Jason replied5

“I got the job at the pharmacy . . . They gave me a part-time job as the custodian. It will help pay for the bills, at least.” 6

Jason replied with a slight sigh of uncertainty. “Just get some rest tonight.” 7

“Ok. Just call me when you get to work. Let me know you made it there ok.” Jessie said as she peered to the bedside clock. “6:56 p.m.”8

“I will Jess. I love you.”9

“I love you too, Jason. Bye” . . .10

Jason quickly turned off his cell phone and dropped it into his shirt pocket. “Fuck! I’m going to be late!” He spouted in anger. The night was misty from the heavy rains. The road seemed to shine in the light of his headlights. He quickly looked into his rear view mirror and started to speed up to make it to work. In the far distance, he spotted out the sign “Oak Mill City Morgue.” He turned on his signal light and slowly drove through the empty parking lot, to the side of the building. A man in a bloody white lab coat and blue scrubs stood waiting at the side door. His pale complexion proceeds well with his growing age of fifty. The expression on his face let Jason know he was the impatient sort. He stood glaring into Jason’s car as he parked.11

Jason quickly swung open his door, “I’m so sorry, Mr. Miller.” He spoke, then quickly reached into the backseat of his car, pulling out a small gym bag. “I see you aren’t even dressed. Delightful way to start a new job. Also, you’re late. Not looking so well Jason. Tisk tisk . . . But I will let it slide just this time.” Miller replied in a heavy tone of voice.12

Jason hurried inside only to pause his motion in shock. On a table, in the center of the room, lay a male corpse. His chest cavity ripped open, and some of his blood-dripping organs placed on a small metal tray. “You act as if you have never seen a dead body before, Jason.” Miller laughed. “I haven’t, Sir.” Jason replied with discomfort in his voice. “Ah . . . Please don’t call me Sir. Just call me Miller . . . You will get use to being around dead bodies if you plan on working with me. Now.” He places his pale wrinkled hand on Jason’s shoulder. “Go get changed.” He gently pushed Jason as he walked to a small equipment station set up in the room.13

Moments later, Jason returned wearing green scrubs and white tennis shoes. Miller stood over the body wearing blood stained gloves, a surgical mask below his chin, and smiling. “Now, Jason, when I start the examination, you have to remain quiet . . . I have to keep a voice record . . . And I like to keep it perfect . . . You are just here to be my little handy helper. Think you can do that for me?” He asked in a soft voice. “Of course . . . But can I ask you some questions before we start? Seeing all of this has me interested.” Jason asked as he looked over the body. “Sure, but make it fast. I want to be out of here before dawn breaks.” He replied with a tone of seriousness.14

Jason looked the body over carefully, yet feeling a bit nauseous from the gaping hole revealing the gore of mankind’s inner beauty. “What happened to this guy?” He asked as his face turned a pinked pale.15

Miller laughed and replied, “So far, he died a healthy man. It was the broken neck that killed him.” He pointed to a large blue and purple bruising around the corpse’s neck. “Neck was snapped from the right side.” Miller replied with a grin.16

“What about the big bruising on his sides and under this block thing under his back?” Jason asked nervously as he pointed to the marks.17

“That is rigor mortis, and the block thing is called a body block. It used for to make the arms and neck to fall back. It also pushes the chest upward making it easier and clearer when I cut.” Miller had a slight grin when he noticed Jason’s eye’s catch with his. “If you’re going to puke, there is a trash can near the door.” Using a hand motion, Jason signaled no. Miller has a slight laugh and asks “Is there anything else you would like to know before we get started?” “No . . . No, I’m good.” He replied with a shallow noise from his throat signifying the swallow of vomit. Miller grinned and pointed to a small box of gloves and a mask. He stumbled across the room thinking of Jessie; he had to do this job for the money. 18

Hours later, the corpse lay completely emptied of its organs. Even the arms and legs were sliced open with the skin flaps penned open to allow viewing inside. And the top of the skull missing, with the bloody flaps of skin pulled over the face and neck. Jason sits resting in the chair in the corner of the room, hovering over the trash can. “No evidence of fowl play. Death was accidental.” Miller spoke clearly for a small handheld recorder laying on a blood-free tray. He removed his gloves, tossing them into a small container, then turned off the recorder; his examination had ended.19

“So, Jason . . . Lets take a break, then we can pack up these organs to be sent to the incinerator. I think I have a spare cardboard box in the storage room.” Jason looked to Miller with confusion in his eyes. “A cardboard box?” He asked with uncertainty. “Yes . . . It’s a box made entirely out of cardboard. It’s an amazing invention. It’s cheap, disposable, and you can put things inside it!” With a sigh, Jason leaned back against the wall, disinterested in replying to Miller’s sarcasm.20

“Do we really have to take a break? I was hoping to get home soon. My fiancé and I had plans for tomorrow night.” Miller paused as he was heading toward double doors at the far end of the room. Without making a reply, he swung open the doors and continued his way. “Ok . . . ” Jason spoke to himself while rasing an eyebrow in confusion.21

He stood with a moan as tiredness swept over his body. As he stretched his arms and legs, he realized that he had forgotten to call Jessie. Quickly removing the phone from his shirt pocket, he stubbles into the storage-closet; still nauseous from what he had witnessed. The phone starts to ring as he opens the large metal door. He quickly looks over the room, but saw no cardboard boxes; only ice cooler and containers of chemicals. Finally answering the phone after several rings, Jessie answers, “Hello?”22

“Hey, Jess . . . I will be home in an hour, or so. I still have a bit of work to do before I get to go . . . Sorry I didn’t call you back, sweetie.” 23

“It’s ok. I fell asleep right after I got out of the shower . . . Are you enjoying your job so far?” Jessie asked with a yawn forming.24

“Well, I got to watch a dude get disemboweled and semi-skinned.” He responded as he searched the shelves.25

“Ewww! That’s just sick, Jason . . . What else?” She asked, curious about the disgusting events taking place.26

“Well, I’m on an epic adventure . . . I have to find a cardboard box that will get Miller off my ass. But, here’s the suspenseful part . . . There are no cardboard boxes in here . . . Oh, hang on. I think I found one.” He placed the phone in his pocket as he moved a bundle of clear plastic to reveal a hidden cardboard box on the top shelf. On the bottom of the box, was a large moist dark-red stain. He took a moment to look closer at the stain before even touching the box. In his mind, he figured it was a chemical stain. Cautiously, he slowly pulled the box off the shelf and looked inside. With a horrified gasp, he jumped backwards in fear; accidently knocking over a shelf of coolers containing severed human body parts wrapped in plastic and drowned with small ice cubes. He found himself looking in pure fear of the horror that is now scattered across the floor. With a shock of terror pouring over his entire body, he climbed to his feet gasping over the gore that surrounded him; mutilated limb still dripping with warm blood, the odor of decaying organs filling the small room, and the stare from a decapitated head that was contained inside the box. 27

The large metal door closes with a loud slam as Miller stands psychotically peering to Jason. “I told you to get the cardboard box, Jason. Why was that such a hard thing to do?!”, he screamed as he grabs Jason by the throat, forcing him through a hidden door draped in plastic. He was freed from Millers grip as he fell into onto the cold bloodstained floor. “All I asked for is a little cooperation!” Miller lashed out psychotically while standing over Jason’s body.28

The dark cold room hid the presences of the gore and horror surrounding both. Time stood still with Miller, but it was only the beginning of the horror to come. Jessie, overhearing everything, began yelling out over the phone, “Jason?! What is going on over there?! Jason?!” Miller, overhearing the muffled screams, notices Jason’s cell phone atop a shelf. “Well, how about that?”, he spoke to himself as he took Jason’s cell phone. Looking the phone over quickly, he removes the battery, then tosses the remains to the floor. “Let’s play a game, Jason. Just for fun.” The door closed and locked behind Jason’s unconscious body. Miller could be heard humming a classical song as he exists the storage room.29

He was safe behind the locked door, but only for a while. The unconscious body laid flat upon the floor for a few minutes til he came to himself. Slowly, he began to stand only to realize he was in a locked room with no exit. Calmly, he began to search the wall for a light switch to save himself from the endless darkness. A switch is found only for Jason to discover the worse of his nightmares; he was trapped inside of Miller’s kitchen. Jason tried to calm himself down by taking deep breathes, only to get a slight taste of cooked meat. Miller was no mere man; he was a psychotic cannibal. Dried human skin of those he had murdered hung on the wall as trophies. Skulls lay on the table set for one in the center of the room. Blood-dripping tools lay next to a mutilated corpse of a young woman. Fresh raw bloody meat graced the counter-tops of the skink. Just from the mere thought of what is going on, Jason began to vomit into the floor. “What in hell is wrong with you?!” He screamed out to Miller . . . No one answered.30

Pacing calmly near the door, he tried to keep himself from looking at the gore. Jason began thinking of Jessie, wondering if he would ever see her again; would he ever get to see his baby? A tear ran down his face as he started to think of the weeding ring, he had bought for Jessie . . . So many thoughts were running through his head. 31

Jessie’s scream of tremendous pain in the other room brought him back to reality. Jason quickly unlocked the door as his heart raced in fear of what was happening. He never looked once at the mess he was stomping. He pushed open the door only to pause in terror and disgust; he fell weak to ground of seeing Jessie strapped to a table. A slice from her stomach to her chest with the skin flaps pulled back. Blood was streaming from her mouth, and her eyes focused on Jason. She managed to whisper the words “Help me.” Miller pulled the fetus from its womb and placed it a large jar filled with formaldehyde. Her eyes set and became glassed over. Jason could see his 6-month-old baby boys’ arms moving as the chemicals in the jar killed him. Miller looks to Jason as he holds the jar for him to see, “I will call this Michael.” 32

Holding to the storage room door, Jason hung praying for it all to be a bad nightmare; praying he would awake and it would all be back to normal. He fainted from what had just witnessed; his beloved fiancee murdered brutally and witnessing the death of his own son. Jessie over heard everything and rushed to the City Morgue to find out if everything was ok. One mad man had ended it all; the future was now just a dim fading candle as it began to burn out forever.33

An hour later, Jason woke, unable to move his body nor speak. His mouth had been sawn shut; stitching was through the bottom of his chin to the tops of his jaws. His limbs were strapped to the table with the body block under his back. He looked around the room with blurry vision; he couldn’t see Miller anywhere. Jason began to pull on the straps that held him to the table but it was impossible. Suddenly, a figure appeared behind him. Jason focused his eyes and realized it was Miller. He stood over Jason with an empty glare in his eyes. “The proceeder is only half finished Jason.” He spoke while walking around the table holding to a circular saw. “We have to finish, or we will never know the cause of death.” He centered the circular saw onto Jason’s chest . . . 34

Blood and bits of bone flew everywhere. Jason lay helpless; the pain was endless it seemed. Miller stopped the bone saw as he came to Jason’s belly button. He smiled sadistically to Jason who was slowly slipping into a coma-like-state. “Now, for the best part of autopsy” He placed his fingers in the large cut on Jason’s chest, and grinned as Jason’s eyes widen in fear and pain. “Internal examination!” On each side of the large gash, Miller placed his hands under the skin, then pulled as hard as possible, ripping open Jason’s chest. The sound of Jason’s ribs breaking echoed through the room. He laughed as he started to twirl his fingers around Jason’s pounding heart. Jason began to try to cough, as blood streamed out his nose and the corners of his mouth. His eyes became glassed over and set, focusing on Miller. “Awww! I was hoping you would still be with me through the organ examination. But, I can see the cause of death. When I broke your rib cage. A few of the bones pierced your lungs. Such a shame too.” Miller began to laugh as he started to remove Jason’s organs and throw them into an ice cooler. 35

Later that day, just before noon, Miller was sitting in his kitchen enjoying cooked meat with a glass of cheap wine. He sits looking into the jar that contained the fetus. “You’re so cute!” he said as he wiped a drop of blood from his mouth. The jar was placed onto the wall between the skin’s of Jessie and Jason. Their skinned corpses stacked on top the other near the stove. Nothing more than bleeding food. Miller’s cell phone began to ring. He courteously wiped his mouth with a napkin, then answered the call. A short pause as he listens to the person on the phone. A smile formed on his face as he replied, “Yes, the job is open, if you are interested, be here tonight at 7 sharp" . . .
