Chapter 3 1
Carrie heard Rachel's feet running up the stairs and vibrating her eardrums. She knew who it was. "Hey, Ray." she said quietly, "I got all the stuff ready for tonight. But i still don't know what pair of shoes to wear." She was going o stop in the middle of the sentence because she remembered that she needed to pick out an outfit before she did shoes." Oh,never mind, i have to have an outfit first don't I." she corrected herself. Rachel put down her backpack on the bed, unzipped it, and started taking out the outfits she brought. To Carrie, Rachel looked really excited. She started saying all this stuff that she should do at the party with her and that she should get out more like herself. "Are you more excited about going to this party for me or yourself?" 2
Rachel looked surprised and put the dress she was holding up on the top of the closet with the other models." Both, why?" She walked over to the bed from the closet and took out her makeup bag. She set the products from M.A.C., to Bobby Brown out on the table my where it goes on your face. The 36" x 36" mirror that hung above showed Carrie's reflection on the glass. She was sitting and looking at her closet with all the dresses hung up and organized by color. "This is gonna be a hell of a night." she said, "I have this shirt that you should wear." She pulled a black, red and green tank top out of her bag and layed it out on he bed. It said "You don't know me....and you never will." It was black with red words and bright green band patches sewn on the front and back. "It goes great with your new jeans. 3
Carrie liked the shirt and took it off the blanket and put it on a hanger to hang on the closet. She then took her new pants out from the bottom drawer of the dresser and put them under it to see if it matched. "It looks great. I think i should wear my spike belt, matching bracelet, and hoop earrings." 4
"And your black and red butterfly choker." Rachel finished. 5
Carrie changed her clothes and helped ray choose hers. She lent her a black, pleated, plaid skirt and hooker boots to match. Rachel put on her own top. It was a black tank top and it had crossing black ribbons in the front. She liked things like that as well as she liked punk-prep stuff. 6
They grabbed heir purses and ran out the door. Carrie's mother watched them. She knew where they were going, but wished she could make sure nothing bad had happened. Donna trusted Carrie, but still wanted to know where she was, when she was going to be home, and who she was going with. But it's not that she was over protective, she just didn't want her to get into anything she can't get herself out of. now don't get it wrong, she's a strong girl, but somethings are too much for her. 7
Sean's house wasn't far, so they walked their way down maple drive, and stopped at the corner and waited for cars to stop. Rachel looked up at the sing at the corner, "Who names a street Maple drive anyways? I mean, it's like used in so many movies and books and stuff. We should have something original." She laughed and pointed out to the other side of the street. There were three people there. One was Ryan Carrier. He played football at their school and was in 11th grade. He was one grade ahead of them, but still knew them, well, he knew Rachel at least. One of the girls was a tall, blond, girl who looked like she just popped out of a Cosmo Girl magazine. She was of course on the cheerleading squad, stuck-up, and watched her weight way too much. That's just how she was. Her name was Leah Carnold. The other girl, Kelly, was about 5'4, brown hair, and shopaholic. She was one of those people who wasn't happy unless they were in a mall. But she was the nicest of the little group they had at school. 8
Rachel grabbed Carrie's forearm and ran towards them. Carrie didn't know what top do because the pressure that Rachel was putting on her arm hurt her cuts, but if she said anything, Ryan, Kelly and Leah would know she cut and think she was even more of a freak. So, she just kept that stuff to herself. But it still burned. "Hey guys. You're going to-"9
"Sean's right" Leah interrupted. She saw Carried and gave her a bad look. Carrie and Rachel, always thought that Leah never knew that she was so... like that...or if you took one look at her and she didn't like you, she'd get someone to kick you ass. But she knew that she was being mean this time. " We have to go...now" She walked down the sidewalk and urged her friends to follow, but it took them a while to give Carrie and Rachel the : sorry-she's-such-a-bitch-but-we-can't-do-anything-about-it" look before they ran off. They were going the wrong way, but that was because they said that they had to stop the grocery store to pick up a few things. 10
Carrie held her purse and followed Rachel in the other direction. "Rachel?" she asked."Why are you friends with her if you don't like her?" 11
"I like her, but she doesn't know how she affects other people. I mean, she's nice once you get to know her, but you don't want to have her at your house." 12
"Why not?" 13
"Because last time she went to Taylor's house-"14
"Taylor who? Ameradi, or Maddan?" 15
"Madden. Anyways, the last time Leah was at her house she was missing a CD player, lipstick, and four pairs of earrings when she left. And then she saw her wearing the earrings and the same color lipstick when they met up at Starbucks. That's Why" 16
"Why did she do that? She has all the money to buy those things herself. Seriously, what's the point of stealing something if you don't have to?" 17
"I don't know what her problem is, but she's a nice person...if she likes you that is. If she doesn't that your better off in the geek hallway."18
The two laughed the rest of the way there. The night was cool, but not very dark. The sun was just setting as it hit about eight. 19
You could hear the music coming from Sean's house from about a block away. They thought about how much fun they were going to have. Carrie realized that she didn't have anything covering her arms. But for some reason, she could care less at that point. Besides, you could barely see the scars. "Sounds like some party." Rachel said. Carrie was just nervous. She didn't want to talk to that many people because she would think that they don't like her, or that she was a freak, just like they all thought. But she held her breath as they walked through the door. There was loud, heavy, rock music on the radio. It was one of her favorite song by The Used. She thought that this party couldn't be that bad. Sean was trying to keep the house clean, but you could tell it was no use because everyone was just making it worse. There were three couches and Two chairs ion the room they were in and about ten couples making out on them. Rachel and Carrie just looked away and gave them privacy even thought they were surrounded anyways. They walked straight towards the kitchen. You know why too....FOOD!!!!! "Why else would you go to a party?" Carrie said. She was trying to have fun, but it was hard because the only people she knew and talked to were Rachel, Sean, Kara, and her other friend, Adriane. She thought she'd just do what they did and she'd be safe. 20
Kara was a really smart girl, was on honor roll since the 5th grade, and was one of the nicest people Carrie had ever met. She had blonde hair, brown eyes, and the "perfect body". She seemed perfect, but Rachel always talked about how she was a drug addict at 14. But it was just a rumor...a rumor that Kara cry every time someone brought it up. 21
Adriane was a hyper person who was always in her own little world. She look and dressed just like Carrie. Except her hair was black, but she dies it blond. Sometimes she wondered why she wasn't best friends with her because they were exactly alike in every way. But Adriane was more active than she was and talked to to more people than one. 22
Tyler, one of the people that Rachel had had a crush on like the whole school year came up to them. He swung over the counter and leaned against the edge with his elbows up pushed against the paper plate that had carrots and celery on it. "I know a place where we can go and just be ourselves." he said. Both Carrie and Rachel had never heard something so random. They could smell the alcohol in his breath. Rachel told him to hole on for one second while she washed up. She took Carrie with her "O-Okay, I'll be right.....here waiting for ya." He sounded so drunk. 23
"I can't believe that he's asking me this!!! Should i go?" Rachel was in a rush of excitement. "Oh My God, Carrie, what am I gonna do?" She could the feel the blood rushing through her veins. 24
"Rachel, he was so drunk!" Carrie was leaning against the sink and her palm were shaking. 25
"Well, i wanna take him when i can get him." 26
"What are you going to do?"27
"Have a major make-out session. What did you think?" 28
"I meant if he tries to hurt you. There's no telling of what he could do while that alcohol is getting to his brain."29
"You sound like someone from Law& Order." Rachel said half laughing half annoyed that Carrie was acting like a mother, not hers, but a mom who actually cares what their daughter is doing or where she is an 11:00 an night, and not letting her have any fun. 30
"Well, like i said, I want to get what I can have." and with that she stormed off. 31
Carrie thought Rachel was mad at her, but she would have been able to tell if she was. So there was nothing to worry about...right? 32
