Doctor Who: The Rise Of A New Doctor

In a galaxy in a far off universe, the dust remains of a planet called Gallifrey began to reform. The yellow-orange planet became whole as ancient cities arose from ashes. A cloud of dust rose and cleared and tall spiral buildings broke out of the cloud of dust. People started to appear out of thin air going about their daily routines as if nothing had happened. The great last ‘Time War’ had been fought and a planet destroyed yet, here it was again in all its former glory. Some people were converging in a great hall to discuss some terrible news. 1

A tall slender man stepped up to the podium and began to speak. “I fear I bring sad news to this meeting.” The man said trying desperately to keep the tears from his eyes. “We now exist again for the unforeseeable has happened. The last great ‘Time War’ saw the end of us many eons ago.” He paused to gather himself. “I now read from the ancient book of Gallifrey. For it is written the man known only as The Doctor shall pass his final regeneration and all in the universe will be lost. Out of the ashes shall Gallifrey raise to find a suitable replacement. Ladies and Gentlemen of the great hall, we only exist because The Doctor has reached his final regeneration.”2

A raised hand appeared in the great hall. The speaker acknowledged this person. “Mr. President. Why would the great text say these things? I recall The Doctor helping in the great ‘Time War’. However, I don’t see why his last regeneration's death would allow us to live.”3

“My young man, time and space do not stop. You are far too young to understand all of this. Simply put, we are the keepers of time and space and someone needs to be around to keep that order. It would be utter chaos if there was no one to guide time and space.” He took a deep breath, and then sipped some water. He passed around the podium as he began to speak again. “The Doctor was the last of our kind, and the void is now being felt across the universe. The universe itself recreated us to see that someone was around to help guide it.”4

Another hand shot up and posed a question “Sir, what does this all mean?”5

“It means Ms. Stone that we must bring the Doctor back.” The President stated.6

“Bring him back? He caused more chaos than he corrected. Time and time again he went about his own needs to save the race of humanity.” A person interrupted from the far back of the room. 7

“That may be true, but as we all know the Earth’s past and it inhabitants need someone to guide them,” said the president. 8

In unison the hall erupted, “Who shall lead them that would have their best interests at hand.”9

“It says in the text that one of planet Earth shall assume the place if the Doctor reaches his last regeneration. He, or She shall have all his memories and their power shall have been bestowed upon them. All of the Doctor’s memories shall be able to regenerate again thirteen more times. This process of the Doctor shall proceed again if the time comes that he has reached his last regeneration.” The president took a long breath. He watched the people of the great hall talk amongst themselves. “This means in short for all you that do not understand this. The Doctor, will even in his last regeneration, shall forever live by picking a candidate from the planet Earth if he or she ever reaches their own limit of regenerations. This is what is written in our own texts and we shall uphold it until time and space feel there is no need to have the Doctor.”10

“Mr. President, how do we decide who would be right to fulfill the role of the Doctor?” several people shouted out in question.11

“It’s fairly simple ladies and gentlemen. With this…” A strange sound emanated in the middle of the hall, and a sound that most knew by heart. A large blue box flickered in the room for several seconds before becoming solid. “This ladies and gentlemen, is the Doctors’ TARDIS” 12

“How were you able to summon it here and at this moment?” One man asked.13

“It was programmed to return to Gallifrey on the event that the Doctor passed his last regeneration.” The president answered.14

“So now that it is here how do we proceed?” The same man asked.15

“Well for some apparent reason this TARDIS is very much alive. It shall pick the right person for the job. The only problem will be to get that person to come here.” The president said. Then he nodded to the engineers to refit the TARDIS. They went in and found the body of the previous Doctor lying lifeless on the floor. The engineers called out to the president and let him know they had found the Doctor. He then ordered the doctors to retrieve the body. “I ask you doctors to restore five days to the Doctor. This should give him ample time to find his replacement and to get him here to Gallifrey so that we may save him.”16

“We will do our best to restore that time to him. However, it may not be exact. Bringing back the dead isn’t really something we normally do. Only in special circumstances is it even considered,” the lead doctor said to the president.17

“Just do your best, Bruce.” The president said.18

The doctors went strait to work on the Doctor. They chanted and prayed and analyzed the Doctor. Injecting different types of medicines and quoting old rituals that were written on ancient scrolls. Two heart beats soon started to faintly came out of the lifeless body. They pounded hard as the body of the Doctor reacted. A deep breath of air was taken as the Doctor gasped and coughed. “What?” 19

One of the Doctors tapped on the intercom. “Mr. President, the Doctor lives.”20

”Very well I’m on my way.” The president replied.21

The Doctor looked at all the people that stood over him. He was puzzled and confused as to how he was seeing what his mind told him. “How is this possible? This can’t be. You all died. I was there fighting along side of you. You are all dead.” He took another deep breath. “I can’t believe this. This isn’t real.”22

A door opened as the Doctor sat up to look who had entered the room. “Ah, glad to see you alive again, Doctor.”23

“President Schlard?”24

“Yes, it is I, my old friend. Don’t let your mind tell you otherwise.” President Schlard replied.25

“But how is this possible you were the first to die in the ‘Time War’”. The Doctor questioned.26

“You reached your last regeneration Doctor, and Time and Space gave us existence again.” The President replied.27

“Oh, my dear lord has it been fourteen lives?” The Doctor asked.28

“I’m afraid so Doctor. We have restored you to your tenth regeneration. Due to the fact your other regenerations where too resent. We couldn’t bring them back so you’ve lost all memory of what you experienced with those. Including how you died last.” One of the doctors informed the Doctor. 29

“So what am I supposed to do? Doctor Grant, isn’t it?” The Doctor asked.30

“You need to find your replacement Doctor.” President Schlard told him as he paced around the room. “You will go to Earth and the TARDIS will bring you to the time and place of your successor. Once you find him, you will bring him back to us within five days.”31

“Oh that’s brilliant. What happens if I don’t bring him back in five days?” The Doctor asked.32

“We are unsure your stability in your current state. We believe that you will die in five days time, but it’s really debatable. You could have two more regenerations for all we know.” Doctor Grant said.33

“So, I’m supposed to find someone to become me. You put all my lives experiences into him, and I wither away into non existence?” The Doctor asked.34

"Again Doctor, we really don’t know what’s going to happen to you. This is the best we could do with the knowledge we have. This is your only chance to have a fresh start of fourteen regenerations.” Doctor Grant answered.35

“Well I hope you’ll be working on a way to give me back my two last lives.” The Doctor stated. He took a deep sigh. “I guess I have to do this, and the universe will have Two Doctors running around it.”36

“That is very unlikely Doctor. You see once we transfer your essence into the next person. You will become someone else, and that person will become you. It’s the only way you can live Doctor.” Doctor Grant tried to explain.37

“I see, so I best get a move on.” The Doctor stated.38

“If you’ll follow me Doctor I’ll take you to your TARDIS. She’s undergone some refitting with the upgrades, but we still haven’t been able to fix the chameleon circuit.” President Schlard said.39

“Ah, that’s ok. I prefer the old police box anyways.” The Doctor said as they walked to the great hall. “All aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.” He spoke directly to the TARDIS giving it a hug.”40

“Doctor, you have to go now. Your time is growing short. You have five earth days to complete your task. When you’re gone that time will expire very quickly. So be swift about it, we don’t want to lose you again,” the president said.41

“I won’t be long Schlard, It was really good seeing you again.” The Doctor said as he entered the TARDIS. He spoke again to the TARDIS. “Alright girl, time for one last ride. Take me to whatever time you see fit that has my replacement.” The TARDIS started to phase in and out of the space-time continuum and vanished.42

“I only hope for your sake Doctor. You meet your own dead line.” The President said as the TARDIS vanished from the great hall.43

<----- BIG fan of Dr. Who!

I really enjoyed this! I would suggest a few things, but since you will have it checked by Andy, then...ok, I won't suggest.

I really do like this idea! It's very much an original one. Not only bringing everyone back to life on Gallifrey, but that the good doctor has run out of regenerations! I wonder who he will choose??? Someone he knows? Someone he's forgotten. If he's been killed, is this person still around on Earth? Hmm! So many questions!

    <------ VERY CURIOUS!

Thanks for sharing this with SW! I am glad that I clicked a random name this morning! I love Dr. Who!

    Hi Fizbop

I found this somewhat confusing. I didn't really understand a couple of sentences. I felt it was best told in the past tense, so I changed it accordingly. I think the idea you are working with here is good, but a little rough. I feel you need to refine and clarify it some.

Wow Doctor Who, I didn't realise that this was popular outside of Britain. Have you seen the new series with David Tennant? He's the best doctor yet.
    Goodluck in your spin off!
