A Crack In Forever- Chapter 5

Chloe walked 20minutes down the road, the long way round to where her brother and Jade shared a house together. It would take 5minutes if she cut through the park, but with the thoughts of Jason clouding her mind at the moment, she didn't want to break down; not at this time, when she was sure Jade would soon need her support.1

Jason may have been Chloe's husband and love of her life, but he had been Jade's twin brother, they shared a bond stronger than love and were as close as siblings could be. When he'd died, she'd been put infront of a mortal court, being acussed of murdering him. It hadn't been the best time for Jade, breaking away from Rik, her maker, defeating some of the Hunters of the world, loosing her brother, the court's timing couldn't have been worse.2

She was aware Tuomas, her older brother by a year, may have already left for work and Jade may not even be in, and more than halfway there she cursed herself for not ringing ahead to check.3

Yet, upon reaching the road where Jade and Tuomas lived together, she found Tuomas's car in the drive still and she could feel both were in the house still.4

Turning the corner to enter the driveway, Tuomas opened the door to greet his little sister,5

"Hiya Chlo."6

She smiled as she hugged him,7

"Hey Tom, Jade around?"8

"Yup," he broke from the hug, ushering her inside whilst closing the door behind her, "Lemme guess, the council are after her again?"9

Walking down the hall she smiled at all the pictures, from having no children of their own Jade and Tom loved Jake like their own, she was grateful for their love for him and the never ending support.10

"How on this earth did you guess?" she smiled back at him whilst heading into the kitchen.11

"When don't they want her?"12

She knew he meant it as a rherotical question, but she didn't know why they wanted her.13

"Sometimes I think if I'd joined the council it would have been easier....Morning Chlo."14

Jade was there in the kitchen wandering round looking for something to eat, not that she needed to, blood gave her everything she needed as food did for a human. But all the same, Jade enjoyed eating. 15

Tom shook his head next to Chloe.16

Jade was so normal still that it scared Chloe, she'd seen enough in her life to want to escape it all, but here was Jade, still the same as she was when she was a teenager, just missing that shadow of a brother.17

Jake wandered over to the same place where he went every lunchtime, he didn't bother to eat, blood and flesh given to him every full moon was enough to get him through the other weeks of the month. 19

Chucking his bags amoung the bushes, he found a space against the wall and leant against is, basking in the sunlight.20

The group he hung around with were the same as him, some wolves, some vampires, some witches, some elves, some mortals who were going to be turned at 18; all of them were part of the night community and knew who he was.21

He was sick of the 'fame' and longed to be like one of them, or even... he opened one eye and looked at the rest of the school, heck he'd be happy just being mortal. 22

He watched Mike Hutchins appear next to him, in the only way a vampire could.23

"Heya mate."24

"Hey Mike."25

Mike was the only one who treated Jake like a nobody and he loved him for it. No special treatment from Mike, just the god honest truth. 26

"Seen anything of April?"27

Jake's gaze shot away from the mortals and into the back of his head, he closed his eyes and soaked in the sunshine.28

April Wilkshire, another reason he'd be mortal.29

They'd gone through schools together, pre-school, primary, beginning of secondary and now into the second half of it, they'd been friends in younger years.. but that was before they call became labelled.30

April was quite a gothic girl now, and he was within the populars, the jocks, like his Mum and Uncle had been, it had been his Auntie and Father who had been in that group... How he longed them to mix, like his Father and Mum had. 31

"No, wish i had though."32

Mike knew the feelings Jake held for April.33

Yet, with the cursed good looks and amazing aura that surrounded them, night people were naturally popular, whether they wanted it or not, there were the few ones who broke away from the group and did as they wished. Jake wish he had the courage.
