YOU WRITE SUCH PRETTY WORDS1

on September 13, 2007. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 2

Eyes can't help but take a glance3

Upon the notebook in your hands4

It never leaves you, always there5

Are words upon your paper fair. 6

It seems so wrong, I think to self7

That you have talent, every ounce8

With I sigh, I have to say9

You write such pretty words.10

Never does your pen stop moving11

Across fields of lines and spaces12

Anything will spark ideas13

Within your mind, onto these sheets14

It seems unfair, I must admit15

For me to fail at musing, yet16

Every time you write, I sigh17

You write such pretty words.18

And when the day is done you have19

A thousand stories in your hand20

They are so perfect right away21

How does the world not know your name?22

It can't be right that you can be23

The perfect writing protigy24

It gives no hope for little me25

You write such pretty words.26

A THOUSAND STORIES28

on August 4, 2006. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 29

A thousand stories I'll tell to you30

If a thousand stories you'll listen to31

Sit down, sit down-I'll tell you all32

Of knights and dragons, dances and balls33

Fights, battles, love, and greed34

Torture, disloyalty, and deceit35

Some dabs of tragedy and comedy36

Is the perfect story's recipe37

A thousand characters I'll describe to you38

If a thousand stories you'll listen to39

Their lives of valour, of love and hate40

Please be patient for the story you await41

From mystical worlds far from here42

To the land that we can see43

Is where they dwell44

Can you not see them now?45

Woven words can show46

Far better than a movie Oh47

the worlds of the mind!48

Nothing can describe!49

And yet-my pen does not know 50

where it is supposed to go51

East or West, to sea or land?52

Which makes my tales far less grand53

Neither can my tounge describe54

These stories, these magnificent lives55

At loss of words, my stories are trapped56

Within my mind of other lands57

If I can not tell the stories which58

Within my head have been built and live59

No one can hear the fabulous tales60

The thousand stories I wish to tell61

ANTIEDAM63

on June 19, 2007. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 64

Soldiers standign proud and tall65

Harper's Ferry soon shall fall66

But does the drummer boy know that?67

Waiting for the general to call attack68

Bullets fly in one sick spark69

Despirate to find a mark70

In any breast of any man71

Too young to face the end at hand72

Eternity so far off in his mind73

Held back by the youth he finds74

Fields of grain 75

They trudge through rain76

Torn confederate coats77

Forever they will go78

Fighting for some vague cause79

No one's told them what the reason was80

Wanting to be a hero, a martyr then some81

They fling their lives in Antiedam. 82

WATCH THE LILY"S PENDILUM84

Watch the Lily’s Pendulum85

Swinging from the highest drift86

Hovering in the wind she does87

Smiling for a noble cause88

She stops a moment, Laughs to hide89

Wings non-existent to mankind90

In laymen’s terms, a pure petal91

Of Lily fair, the morning’s gold92

Jet brunette with hair so crisp 93

Hiding behind hibiscus94

A dance and song for garden kept95

The world knows nothing of God’s sent96

She smiles at her trickery97

Covered in pollen’s mystery98

Dangling from the highest peak99

A drop, a fall on pansies meet100

Skirts do trail across the path101

White petals do glisten last102

On the leaf, she does resume103

She is the Lily’s Pendulum104

A DAY ANEW105

on August 25, 2006. © Megumi E., All rights reserve106

The sundrops glist'ning in the dew107

Along with animals old and new108

Hear their voices-they speak the truth109

"Today is fresh-a day anew!"110

Forget the rags of yesterday111

The sins you left; pride and pain112

Your sins have been forgiven-washed away113

So wake up to this brand new day!114

The smell of air is fresh and green-115

The lov'liest sight you've ever seen.116

Just stretch your hand through the glassy screen117

Into a world of full mystery.118

The Summer's gone with heated breath119

Before we knew it, in Fall lept120

But still the earth sings its song at best121

"Don't worry now-it's a new year left!122

"Rejoice for now there is more time123

Before the year shall soon off fly"124

That's when soft buds gently kiss good bye125

The summer breeze that blows them by126

And the lips of lovely flowers slowly127

Make their way to the grass so lowly128

As though the Earth itself is moaning129

O'er the time of Fall's owning130

But the creatures raise their weary heads131

And flowers rise from fallen beds132

And nature praises God instead133

Of mournign summer's lossin dread134

There is a season for everything:135

For sorrow, joy, prosperity.136

And some fallen tears for loss are fine137

So long as rejoicing still is thine.138

EVERY FLOWER HAS A MEANING139

on May 9, 2007. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 140

Every Flower Has a meaning141

Every petal a story...142

Weave them all together143

And a new tale has begun.144

The rose is for lovers-145

Do you know what each colour says?146

Yellow is amiable147

Blue is for future hope148

Red is for passionate love...149

The lotus is for youth150

Yet unrequited love151

Its blossoms fill lonely hearts152

Waiting for he who will never come...153

Through the fingers154

Weave the stems155

Climbing up156

To tell their story157

Whispering in anothers ear158

To any who will listen.159

BOTTLE UP MY TEARS161

on December 28, 2006. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 162

Catch my tears, O Lord163

Bottle each one with care-164

They never cease their flow165

Please remind me that you're there.166

Times now seem unbearable,167

Please bottle up my tears168

I never want to see them again169

They represent my fears. 170

You know everything of me-171

You love me and treasure all,172

Thank you Lord! Remind me that173

You'll catch me when I fall. 174

Lord-please let these bottled tears175

Flow into your seas of Grace-176

Let your love just warm my heart177

And let me stand this wretched place178

THE TOUNGUES OF THIS EARTH180

on February 6, 2007. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 181

Everything within this earth182

Has a tongue, a word from birth183

And all that one must do to hear184

These words is lend a faithful ear.185

One day I stood, as silence sept186

Into a room where grown men wept187

Death's taste lingered, and tainted air188

That once held life-so bright and fair189

And though nothing to naked ear190

Could be heard in this cold air191

I could find many voices fast192

Gaining more boldness in their grasp.193

The walls-they spoke of days of olde194

Their wallpapers, lost tinted gold 195

The pictures chatted self-commands196

Like housewives bored of life's demands.197

The room in whole-began to spill198

Secrets meant far back to kill199

But somehow, lost in the wheels of time200

Preserved through voices now sublime201

Beyond the room-I then could feel 202

The tongues of all the earth so real203

Man's echos through the hills so clear204

Whilest animals' tongues less plain to hear205

Then wind's fair voice calls up above 206

Through tree's soft whispers of gentle love207

Though man ignores its loud'ning cries208

How daft is he who earth denies?209

And picking up the chorus still210

Were grasses blades-nature's quills 211

Whist'ling in the breeze, they keep 212

Secret tales in earth so deep213

The crickets chime in, when it seems 214

Is best for verses then to keep215

Birds by score flock by to see216

The magic worked by such as these. 217

Before I knew, it felt as though tears218

Slipped from this room of Doom and fears219

But rather, hope now took its place220

And gave this world an air of grace.221

The words ne'er stop to cease their flow222

Though this the wonder man does not know:223

Since the dawn of creation, earth has held high224

The One who created them, long past in time.225

Everything has its own unique tongue226

Words to praise the most High One227

They shall not cease 'till he silences them228

And the Earth is transformed to the new Jerusalem! 229

ME231

(first official poem)232

on October 14, 2004. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 233

Punk, Prep, Goth, Skater-234

They tell me to pick one235

But I can't-236

I'm me237

I have my own individuality238

I have the pride of a punk, the spirit of a skater,239

a mix of all of them-240

I tell them that-241

they look at me242

"What's your problem" they ask243

I smile and walk away244

I can't be in a category245

I'm me 246

FROM CAT TO MOUSE248

on May 3, 2007. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 249

Who would have thought250

Said the cat one day251

That I would have 252

To fight this mouse253

TO keep my rightful stay?254

The one I love255

Sent from above256

Falls closer to his arms, away257

From I258

But, why?259

I am the Cat, after all. 260

Do you love the mouse?261

He watched his love262

With quest'ning eyes.263

But no replies264

Came from her lips265

He missed her once again. 266

Her gentle arms267

Around his fur268

Cooled his anger still269

Her smile lit 270

Up the cat's eyes271

Unable to speak lies. 272

From Cat to mouse273

He thought to self274

I will hunt you down one day 275

~276

LONELY PIANO277

Lonely piano, rusting in the corner278

There once was a little boy who played you279

But now he is all grown up.280

He wears a suit now281

He goes to work every day.282

“I have no time for games,” he said.283

Is that the little boy you remember?284

Your strings are pulled; you moan with every chord.285

It is a shame, it is a shame286

Long ago, your song was beautiful.287

No longer can you stand before an audience—You would fall on the tiered stage.288

The thousand guests that watched you289

Through opera glasses are replaced with street cats.290

Do their ruffled suits please you?291

Do you remember those days?292

Surely you must dream of the soft fingers that ran over your keys293

And maybe, in the right wind, you feel them once again.294

Maybe one day that boy will come back295

Once he is retired with grandchildren.296

Or maybe those children will discover you297

As I did long ago.298

CATCH ME300

on July 22, 2007. © Megumi E., All rights reserved 301

Catch my yawn before it flies302

Off into uncharted skies303

Catch my arm before it falls304

Gent'ly as my pillow calls305

Catch my head before it dares306

To rest upon your shoulder fair307

Catch my sleep before it takes308

Me in its journey, never wakes309

Catch my dream before it goes310

Into night time, full of woes311

Catch my hopes before they die312

Once my love you do deny313

Catch my love before I rest314

Amongst the dead, in sorrow nest315

Catch my love, before it be316

Too late for us, too late for me 317

RIBBONS DOWN MY BACK319

Ribbons down my back320

Perchance he will take notice321

The night is still young322

And we may dance...323

Will he see me324

With my shimm'ring gown?325

Will he find true love this evening?326

Can I be his true beauty?327

My lovely hat, 328

Adorn my face329

Give me a look330

Of the most grand grace331

Ribbons, dear ribbons332

Please catch his wond'ring eye333

And bring it back to me334

His heav'nly eyes 335

Only on mine336

Perhaps this dance 337

Shall be thine338

With the help of my dear ribbons339

OBAA SAN340

Obaa san held,341

Sparingly savouring342

Every grain of rice-343

For that would be 344

tomorrow's goku as well. 345

Obaa san knew346

The yen was running short347

Yet every obento348

Was topped with fish. 349

Obaa san watched350

Us walking back from school351

Her wrinkled smile strong352

Thoguh her back hunched over in pain. 353

Obaa san taught354

that Every grain of rice355

Was to be watched with care356

FOr one day,357

It may be gone. 358

She never gave us fear359

Only truth for our sakes360

She never gave us pain361

Only a taste of reality. 362

That was all she could do,363

For one day364

Obaa san never woke up. 365

THE GREAT WALL367

Silence floods the air, 368

And heavy winds whisper 369

As coldly as the voices of the dead.370

A shadow falls371

Yet it is only a trick of the eye.372

There is a ubiquitous ominous feeling...373

An ancient air remains374

On this great wall...375

A slithering dragon 376

Encompasses these vast terraced mountains377

With its falling stone body.378

He breaks off!379

Into the cities and the countryside380

Showing off his glorious power381

To all of China-382

To all of the world!383

Trying to extend his reach to the heavens384

From his scaly back385

One feels as though386

He can see the whole world387

although it is only a taste 388

Of this place God has made. 389

that dragon-wall390

Refuses to think391

That anything can surpass392

His aged power393

Yet he notices not394

The stones that cascade395

Into the bottomless pits. 396

in the centre hall405

dust collecting 406

on her face407

hands reaching for a world408

besides hers of time409

her gown of cherry grains410

melded to the wall411

for six and twenty years thus far412

THE ROOM OF RED LILIES421

It glows from hours into night422

In total darkness, only light423

Flickers, flickers-never dies424

Bears all shadows, yet never cries425

Always dancing ‘cross the room426

Parades the shades of scarlet hues427

Formless, soulless, let with life428

It cascades over folds of white429

Akin to walls painted vibrant430

A thousand red lilies’ plight left431

Remains of petals, showered down432

To grace the floor of withered brown 433

Whispers prose for empty ears434

Release away the countless fears435

Forlorn within this room of red436

He scatters tales from right to left437

Satin covers never turn438

Yet let candle’s flame cover all439

When his stories hush and die440

Is when his flame shall no longer fly.441

~442

SHE DIED WITH NO COMPLAINT443

And she who died made no complaint444

How many times had she faced him before?445

Once, twice, thrice or more?446

Death, in Life, was her sol mate.447

How could she find a demand?448

For her dream was much simplified449

What mattered now? she had no life450

Save love had met her time again.451

She thrived in her laid destiny452

One birthed and raised in morbidity453

All she knew, all she did want454

But lack she did a true felt heart.455

Blood trickled down her broken side456

Yet with the onyx smile alive457

She asked herself "What can I ask458

Being of the Night's reborn last459

Death or life? I have no choice460

My kind does fall and so shall I..."461

And with that word, again she died. 462

AN OLD MANS DREAMS464

Can you see an old man’s dreams465

Through catalyst, they dare to gleam466

Earthly power, age and plight467

Can never tear down his dream’s might.468

Years have borne him sacrifice469

Death to self has paid the price470

But does he wallow in the pain—471

Or does he pursue heav`nly gain?472

None in youth can comprehend473

The suffering of this old man474

And he’d be far too humble to tell475

Of conqu`ring misery and spiritual Hell476

Of faith and love he held to tight477

The flame for God he wishes ignite478

These and many more may be479

Residing in an old man’s dreams 480

REVELATION482

I see a bird…483

/But is it really a bird?/484

What is it, then485

/A crested brooch for the heavens?/486

Perhaps.487

/A silent witness for this lowly earth?/488

I’m not quite sure.489

…Can’t it just be a bird?490

I watch the sunrise491

Tasting a fresh mango…492

/And is that all?/493

I suppose.494

/Can you see nothing else?/495

There was a shimmer on the water…496

/And?/497

It was beautiful.498

There is a pear tree dancing in the wind.499

I think he is excited.500

/Why is that?/501

The way he throws pear blossoms into the sky502

/What about it?/503

They dance as well.504

/Is it unique?/505

Yes.506

/Why?/507

It makes me want to dance along.508

I take in my hand a box of colours509

/Are you making a picture?/510

I shall.511

/What of?/512

A bird, 513

A sunrise, 514

A mango, 515

And a tree.516

/Why is that?/517

You shall see.518

/Will it be enough?/519

It is not just them,520

For they were my revelation.521

They are just doors to open for me522

A thousand beautiful sights523

Tastes524

Emotions.525

Then you can see.526

THIS IS WHAT MEMORIES LOOK LIKE528

Paper hearts529

And shooting stars530

Were all I found 531

When I dusted the closets.532

High school promises made to be broken533

Innocent souls to be tainted and moulded534

We flew with wings, but then we fell535

Yet I still have them stuffed in a corner.536

…I think they’re called memories. 537

The pages are hard to look at538

Yet I feel lighter when I do.539

540

I wonder if I can fly again541

Like the heart shaped balloon542

You drew on my Physics notes543

Remember?544

Old cardboard boxes545

That smell like vinyl records546

Still hold your tokens of infatuation. 547

548

I laughed and cried when I pulled out549

The class ring you gave me so long ago.550

I feel so young!551

I feel like I’m dying!552

Dang, I’m so old!553

And what about the little hearts554

The sappy cards555

That lay unopened?556

They hurt and bleed, 557

Yet I’m always so foolish as to open them again558

And think of you.559

Its like we escaped in a hot air balloon560

From a world of reality561

But popped—562

And fell563

Fell564

Fell.565

Yet I was able to stand up again566

And draw another scribbled heart on my lecture notes today.567

I think I’ll name it after you,568

Post it on my dorm room wall—569

Tell my roommates,570

Perhaps, if I get the courage,571

“I think that’s what memories look like.”572

Wow, you have written a lot of poems... @.@ Anyways, you're a great poet. ^^ One of my favorites was the last one, THIS IS WHAT MEMORIES LOOK LIKE. Another one I really liked was EVERY FLOWER HAS A MEANING. Each one of them is unique and special. <3 You use great imagery, and I can clearly see the objects in my head. I also like how you make your poems flow without the rhyming. My poems would fall apart if they didn't rhyme, lolz. You make it work, though. Good luck in the contest, and KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! =)
