Versus Self

spiking coils inward
furious frustration tumbling around
breaking apart a fragile rice-paper screen
previously established
tonight on faux news
fuck this!
frighten the everlasting into showing its teeth
then rip the needful bastard from its shell
and spit in its eye
and kick its face in
and tell it, "What the hell are you good for, anyway?"
And then rip away the mask
break the mirror underneath
and tear your throat out
with the broken glass
two corpses falling
melting together
putrescent union.1

what happened here?
fell out of the white hanging veil
into a stinking place brown and falling
old demons dragging their severed limbs
decapitated heads barking promises of revenge at me
I want them to come
I want to meet them
I want to destroy them again and enjoy doing it
but the bastards
hover around the edges
just out of reach
threatening, taunting
but never
actually
going through with it
tiger encaged by its own
stripes.2

just rip out the hooks
break through the bars
shatter all opposition
patterened into a paradigm of denial
the opportunity wastes away
under a wooden trapdoor in the floor
will the yelling never cease?
it seems like under every layer
when everything is finally dealt with
there's always another skeleton
lying in wait with dry teeth
desperate to wet themselves
in my blindness.

thank you for entering and good luck in the contest. ^^ this is well written. i'm not a big fan of cussing, but it's still a really good poem. ^_^

I usually don't use expletives too much in non-character-focused writing (if a char. swears, they swear, but otherwise, there's usually more accurate words available.) But in this particular case, that's just how it came out. I thought about trying to edit it out, but I couldn't maintain the authenticity of the expression at the same time. Sorry.
