Andrea looked back into the young boy’s eyes. “You will just have to leave me be. I want nothing to do with the man that you call Jason” She said vehemently. 1
The boy recoiled at her words, and then looked up as if distracted. “What are all these necklaces hanging around this room?”2
Andrea looked up and saw that all of her necklaces that she wore when she was growing up were here. They were hanging around the bed that she was imprisoned in. Among the necklaces was the pendant that had the word “Henely” scratched into it. She looked back down at the boy who was looking at her intently.3
Andrea shrugged and tried to look like she didn’t care. “I don’t know why, maybe to make me feel more at home, but I don’t think that the restraints are going to help matters.”4
The boy nodded and went to remove the restraints. 5
“Tyler!” A pudgy woman from the doorway yelled. “Get off that bed this instant and go back to your room!”6
Tyler jumped in surprise and scurried out of the room in a hurry. The woman shut the door behind her and walked over to the bed. As she got closer, her face was one that Andrea instantly recognized.7
“Graze!” She said coldly. “What are you doing helping a maniac and murderer like him?”8
Nurse Graze smiled without warmth. “He saved my life and has helped me in some serious situations. It’s only fair that I can return the favor.” She was preparing a syringe with a sickly yellow liquid in it. She flicked it twice with her forefinger. “Now, it’s time for you to go to sleep.” She approached with the syringe menacingly...9
Meanwhile at the station...10
Detective Spinner was spinning in her chair. No leads at the nurse’s residence and it seem that the trail was going cold. They knew that they had a limited time before something happened to her or worse, she showed up in the morgue as a body.11
“Detective Rouge!” one of the techs down the hall yelled. “Come with me, please. I think that I found something.”12
Rouge and Spinner walked briskly over to the tech station and the tech was nearly falling over his words.13
“I think… that we may be dealing with the daddy serial killer. Back about 15 years ago, there was this guy, one Brian Frost. This guy was a real creep, but no one knew it yet, until they found his kids all dead at their local park. The local law enforcement said that they all committed suicide. However, your noteworthy forensic investigator, moi” he said, taking a bow “was able to determine that they all died from a small explosive in their head.”14
“How is that possible?” Detective Spinner, looking slightly horrified.15
“Sub-dermal transmitters. He most likely put them in their heads surgically when they were young. Whoever did this was very skilled. They died at that park and when I traced back the paper trail, it led to him. According to his bank records, he disappeared off the grid several years ago until he bought a house in the back woods of New York. Should be only a three hour drive from here.” He said, looking at his computer. “Ain’t that something? Why would he be so stupid to leave a way to find him? Guys?” He looked up and the detectives had already left.16

Cabin in the woods next to Red Hook, New York…18
The nurse approached menacingly to Andrea. Andrea struggled and loosened one of her restraints. She waited patiently, to not give away that she was unrestrained, until the nurse was bent over her and screamed in her ear. The nurse dazed by the blast of sound tried to cover her ears to block out the sound. Andrea grabbed the syringe and stuck it in the nurse’s neck. The nurse collapsed immediately to the floor, hitting her head on the side of the bed. Andrea used her free hand to undo her bindings and raided the drawers under her bed searching for her clothes.19
She froze when she heard the distinct sound of clapping. 20
“Well done.” Brian said. “Well done. You always did have a tenacious spirit. That’s one thing that I loved about you.” He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. His eyes looked cold and calculating.21
“Your love of me cannot be reciprocated. Not after you killed our children, you bastard!” She lunged forward and he caught her easily, held her to backhand her across the face, and then threw her back on the bed.22
“YOUR children!” He said, spitting the words, and then collected himself. “Not mine. But you are going to give me more children. My children who will understand that no mistake will be tolerated.” He smiled coldly.23
“I will never give you children. I would rather die, than give beautiful children to a monster like you!”24
“I believe that you don’t have a choice, sweetheart.” He said the last word with such venom that it seemed to crawl like a poison on Andrea’s skin.25
“Don’t hurt her” said a little voice behind Brian. Tyler was standing, clutching his teddy bear with a very frightened look in his eyes. “You... you promised not to hurt her, like you hurt mommy.”26
“Shut up, brat!” Brian smacked him across the face and Tyler cried out in pain. A brief shine of light from the window distracted Andrea’s attention and the medallion that had the word “Henely” scratched on it came into focus. She reached for the medallion and then she remembered a memory that was long ago buried.27
Ten years ago...28
A well dressed man in a suit was on Andrea’s doorstep. Brian’s mother had just died and the funeral was very stressful on the entire family. When Andrea came to answer the door, she still had a tissue in her hand and her cheeks were puffy.29
“Andrea, my name is Guter Thompson. I’m your mother-in-law attorney. May I come in?”30
“Yes, of course. Please excuse my looks." Andrea blew her nose. "My mother-in-law was a close friend and these days have been hard. Would you like something to drink? Tea, soda, water?” She asked, wiping her nose and gesturing to the kitchen.31
“Water will be fine. Thank you” He said, sitting at the breakfast bar. Andrea came back with his glass of water. He sipped it and set it down on the counter and then brought his briefcase and unlatched it.32
“Your mother-in-law sent a letter to me in the case of her death. She gave me explicit instructions, that upon her death, you receive this letter. The contents of this letter will only be known to you and you alone.” He gave her a letter with a manila envelope. Andrea took the letter first and opened it up. 33
It read:34
My dearest Andrea,35
I’ve grown to love you very much over the course of your marriage to my son. However, since I do love you, I wanted you to know his past and what he truly is: A monster. Usually, a mother would never call her son this, but I’ve seen the monstrosities that he has done. I’ve kept quiet about it, because I thought that with him growing from a young man to a father, it would change him, but it hasn’t. Therefore, if and when I die, I wanted you to know a keyword that makes him pliant. 36
“Henely”37
This was programmed into him when he was little by a psychologist that he was working with. When he really starts to lose it, that keyword may mean the difference between your safety and a massacre. I don’t use these words lightly, and to prove what I am saying, the manila envelope shows pictures of his earlier “works”38
Please use this word only when necessary, because he is my son and I love him, but I wanted you to know the truth.39
Sincerely,40
Wanda41
Andrea ripped open the manila envelope and perused the pictures that were taken. Her eyes filled with tears and she screamed in disgust and horror. Bruises and scars were all taken and they seem to be pictures of Wanda’s body. She couldn’t believe that her husband could do such a thing or that her beloved mother in law would keep this from her.42
The lawyer closed his briefcase and made apologies before scurrying out of the house in a dignified, but rushed manner.43
She burned the letter in haste, but when she went to burn the pictures, she hesitated and hid them in her closet in a shoe box. She grabbed one of her medallions and scratched the word “Henely” in it with a key. Then she collapsed in grief and fell asleep.44
Present day…45
Brian continued to smack Tyler in the face. “No one tells me to do anything!” He said, his voice thick with menace. 46
Tyler whimpered, but tried to stay silent for fear of getting hit again.47
“Henely” Andrea called softly.48
“WHAT??” Brian roared.49
“Henely” Andrea said again, more firmly.50
“NO! I’m not known by that name. He cannot come back!” Brian’s eyes went wild and he started to walk towards Andrea and reached for her.51
“HENELY!” Andrea yelled and Brian stopped before he reached her. His face went slack and the anger left him. He closed his eyes and he stayed that way for a minute. He opened his eyes and he looked around with innocence. 52
“Who are you and where am I?” Brian said timidly. 53
“Who are you?” Andrea asked after bringing Tyler in and seeing to his bruises. 54
“Henely. Henely Graves. I live on Chester street and my favorite thing to do is play hopscotch.” He smiled as if reliving the memory.55
The front door of the cabin burst open and a single word was yelled “Police!”56
“In here!” Andrea yelled and Detective Spinner and Rouge came to the door, guns out.57
Brian curled up and looked terrified. “Have you come to hurt me?”58
Andrea ignored him and picked Tyler up and headed out of the cabin.59
Epilogue…60
Tyler sprinted up to the dining room table. “Andrea, can I have marshmallows for breakfast today?”61
Andrea laughed. “No, you get to have cereal like everyone, but some of them” Andrea shook the cereal box “have marshmallow in them.” She smiled, pouring him a bowl of Lucky Charms.62
The arrest of the daddy serial killer made headline news in New York and Pennsylvania. He was charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder. Nurse Graze pleaded guilty and turned on her fellow kidnapper, providing key testimony. Brian Graves currently is serving a life sentence in a maximum security prison. 63
Andrea is still going through therapy to recover from the traumatic experience and she has taken guardianship of Tyler. No parents have been found for him, so the state saw that it was best for Tyler to remain in her care. They helped each other heal during and after the kidnapping.64
Andrea smiled and realized that while life will never return to normal, at least she has a life without worry now. She ruffled Tyler’s hair and sat down to enjoy the bowl of Lucky Charms with him. 65

Yes! Love the ending. I really liked the whole "Henely" thing...really creative...and very possible, esp. with our technology. I like the ending so much...it made me cry!
Brian stole so much from her, but in the end she gained something: Tyler. I am glad that she has Tyler, who she can now say is her son.
Oh, most superb!
