One day, a girl was sitting in her English class, thinking to herself about what she had experienced in the past few months, all because she had met a girl, who opened her eyes to a new world, that contradicted her own at every turn. Her own spirit being, Santianna, a little Spanish girl, knew what she was thinking.1

“Don’t you dare! You shouldn’t tell our story, if you do, you will have the wrath of the Shadow Knights on your head! Shadow, Bubsy, Heiro, everyone! They will all hunt you down and you will pay for your insubordination, your…Infidelity!” She continued spewing forth words akin to disloyalty and betrayal. 2

The girl sighed, “Santianna, you’ve never cared for the war, so why do you care if we get in trouble for this?”3

“Because I am the one who will get hurt! They can’t hurt you, you know the laws, but they can hurt me for not keeping your mouth shut!” Santianna was absolutely furious with the girl.4

“Oh, so this is to save your own skin? Well you can tell them that I wouldn’t listen to you, and you know that I am different, you can’t take me over like Dante takes over Violet.” This retort stung the silent air, as Santianna knew she was beat into a corner. 5

So Mitsy replied again, “Good, and don’t worry, I’ll change all the names.” Then she began typing, ignoring the evil glare from her English teacher, who knew she wasn’t taking notes on “King Lear”. 6

Rita was a normal girl, who had normal beliefs, and who only normal things happened to. That is, until she met a younger student, who opened her eyes to a new world, a world full of mystery and war. 7

This world was full of demons, both good and bad, and a secret war of the koma-oni, ka, and kao-ka’s, versus the Epitephs. A war that had been raging on for years8

“Stop!” Santianna screeched in Mitsy’s ear. “You are going to tell them everything! I thought you were going to change names!”9

“yeah, at the end…besides, I can’t change the actual facts. Don’t you want the world to know?” Mitsy replied.10

Santianna, fumed, “Oh, let me guess, you are going to tell them the candle trick, too!”11

“Ooh, thanks, I didn’t think about putting that in! Great idea!” Mitsy smiled at the dumbstruck spirit being. “I was kidding. There is no way I would tell people that if you concentrate and meditate on a candle flame, with no other lights on to distract you, that you could be able to see all of the Koma-oni, the Ka, the Kao-Ka, and worse, the Epitephs. Its bad enough I can hear them, let alone see them. I don’t want other people to see them, to be able to be hurt by them like Matt!” 12

After Mitsy’s exasperated sigh, Santianna shook her head of onyx locks, and slammed the mental door to her room in Mitsy’s mind.13

“Thank You!” Mitsy yelled after her. Her fingers rested on the keyboard yet again, as she tried to find where she let off.14

A war that had been raging on for years that would possibly never end. It had been going on since the beginning of time, since Shadow was born, which was twenty years before the beginning of time. Shadow, a Koma-oni, or spirit demon, took on the form of a hedgehog, dark in color, and a pretty interesting character. You can always hear Bubsy, a six foot tall walking talking bobcat, talking trash against Shadow, most of which does not pertain to the war. Heiro takes the form of a wolf, brilliantly white and shining. He is stronger than Shadow, although he is younger. Rita knew many spirit demons, which also can be called Ka and Kao-Ka. Ka is a male spirit demon, and it always has a pair, the Kao-Ka, or female spirit demon. Koma-oni can come in singles. There was Rose, the two-tailed fox obsessed with pink, and Dante, a cat who fell in love with Rita. Dante had a sister, Angelus, another cat, however brainier. Rita’s own spirit being was Santianna, a Spanish girl who had been human, and had never taken on an animal form. 15

Rita had met Bobbi during the summer, and they had become fast friends, growing close like sisters. It wasn’t until the fall that Bobbi began telling Rita about the Shadow Knights and the guy she loved, the human whom Shadow was attached to.16

The Shadow Knights are a secret organization devoted to eradicating the world of the Epitephs. Shadow is the head of the Shadow Knights, and he is attached to Ryan. The Epitephs are spirit demons who are no longer attached to anyone, and they can attack who they please. They cannot attack humans unless the human can see them.17

Rita had her own experience in her own house, alone, while on the phone with Bobbi. Bobbi had been explaining more in-depth of what the war entailed, and about the Shadow Knights, one of numerous phone lectures that Rita received in a few short months. She had been staring at a poster of the grim reaper, and she swore the eyes had turned from red to green, then back again. She was almost in tears for fear, when she heard a deafening threat coming from her kitchen.18

“I’m coming to get you.” A menacing growl, deep and terrifying, had erupted from thin air, and Rita went to investigate, against Bobbi’s wishes.19

“Don’t provoke it, whatever you do, don’t provoke it!” Bobbi kept repeating, trying to instill in Rita the same fear she had, the real fear that Rita couldn’t understand, not just yet. 20

Rita sighed, “You know me, You know I can’t help but investigate. I’m a curious being. I have to find out what it is.” Despite Bobbi’s protests, Rita ventured into the kitchen, looking carefully all around her, before pacing around the kitchen table, in painstaking quiet. “Where are you, you coward? What do you want with me?” She could feel the eyes of the creature burning into her flesh, but where it came from, she could not decipher. 21

Bobbi gasped through the phone, as she knew who it was.22

“Ok. That’s enough. You are done, Mitsy, finite, finished, it’s over.” Mitsy smiled as she heard the familiar voice coming from Violets mouth.23

“Bubsy! So Shadow sent you to do the dirty work, eh?” She set her tray down on the lunch table, having abandoned the story to eat lunch. “You should tell Shadow I’m hurt, but if this is what it takes for you to come visit us, then so be it. I’ll be insubordinate more often.”24

Violet shook her head, emphatically, “No. Shadow is busy with other things. Besides, he has Rose these days, and doesn’t have to chase after you.” The smirk cut Mitsy deeply, as she had had a crush on the dark hedgehog since she’d met him. 25

“You can tell Shadow to take his two-tailed fox and shove her up his-” A death glare from the lunch patrol caused Mitsy to come up short with her retort. She continued in a whisper, “Look, I don’t care if I’m being insubordinate, and you know that no one cares about me or what I do because I can’t help!” Mitsy, truly hurt, focused on her mashed potatoes, not wanting to hear anything else Bubsy had to say.26

The look from Violets eyes was a pitying one. “You know that you have powers, we all do. They are just untapped as of yet.” Mitsy still wouldn’t look up at Violet, into the eyes that Bubsy was now occupying. “Come on, friend, you know that we care about you. We know that you can’t help right now, but you are still our ally, you are still a member of the Shadow Knights, and you can’t be telling the world of this war. It would break the code-”27

Bubsy was cut off by Mitsy, “Damn the code!” She stood, ugly green tray in hand and stalked off, a sigh issuing from Violets lips, however they came from a six foot tall walking talking bobcat who was furious with his friend because it was his job, yet hating himself more and more.28

Violet stood, yelling at Bubsy inside her mind for being heartless, and had Dante push him out of her mind. The bobcat wouldn’t leave so easily, so he walked alongside Violet, his form sometimes visible as they conversed in angry whispers.29

“You know the code means nothing to her. It’s just another painful reminder that she is useless.” Violet hissed at Bubsy.30

“Yes, but she must understand that if she is a Knight, she has to follow the rules. I’m doing this for the good of the Knights. But as a friend…It hurts me more than you know.”31

Violets face, contorted with shock, snapped over to see the shimmering bobcat. “You can’t do this. If you put her out of the Knights it will hurt both her and our chances in the war! You know who she is, you know what she will be capable of!”32

Bubsy shook his head. “I know, we must protect her, but without her following the rules, we can’t. She endangers herself and us. We can’t risk her being in the Knights anymore. Perhaps she will be safer if she is kept in the dark.”33

“No! I refuse to be the bearer of this news, and I refuse to let Shadow and Matt kick her out!” Violet stalked off to the girls bathroom, Bubsy in tow, however unwilling. 34

Pulling out her phone, she punched in Matt’s number, and began tapping her foot impatiently, when Matt answered, she snapped, “Put Shadow on, Matt, or else you are going to have one really angry teenager on your hands!”35

“Vi, you can’t think you will keep her in the Knights by yelling at me, do you?” Shadows voice crackled from the earpiece. “I know she could be the key-”36

“Could be? Could be? She is, and you know it. How many times have you broken the code to save your own sorry butt? You keep her in the Knights or you will lose your direct voice to the spirit council!” With that she hung up the phone, shoved it in her pocket, and tried to concentrate on Algebra.37

Later that day, Mitsy, laptop open, hands poised to write, saw something else typing on her laptop.38

Don’t worry, it’s Shadow...39

A happy smile lit up Mitsy’s face, but it was soon drowned out by her anger and hurt.40

"Don’t talk to me." 41

"Why Not? You know you broke the code, you know what happens when someone breaks the code."42

"I know, Shadow, but I can’t help it. I can’t do anything to help the Knights, so what point is there in me being in it? I’m a useless pile of junk when it comes to fighting the epitephs."43

"You aren’t useless. You are brilliant, your shining mind will help us in the future."44

"So what? It doesn’t matter whether I can help you in the future or not, I’m kicked out. Gone, finite, finished."45

"No. You aren’t. I have spoken to Violet, and she thinks you should just be reprimanded, which I’m sure Bubsy did a fine, however botched, bit of yelling. You are getting censured, that is all. We need you in the Knights."46

"No you don’t. Why are you keeping me in the Knights? There has to be a reason."47

"There is not..."48

"Is too! I know when you are lying to me, Shadow, I know there is a reason you are keeping me in the Knights, and I don’t think its Vi and Matt’s relationship."49

"You are right, but when the time comes you will know."50

"Oh, don’t go all Yoda on me. TELL ME. I order you to tell me now, Shadow, or I will leave the Knights myself!"51

"Fine! We don’t know what, but we know who. We don’t know why you will be useful, or how, but we know you have to be kept safe and well. That is all I can say. This discussion is over."52

The entity known as Shadow held down the backspace button, erasing all of Mitsys work, her entire story. She nodded, satisfied in the answer, and excited to continue her learning in the Shadow Knights. 53

Besides, it isn’t like anyone would believe what she had written. 54

Heiro is black. Rose is a badger who is purple with silver streaks in her hair. Its Angelous, not angelus. (lol sorry just correcting the sore spots)
