The Life I Stole - A Starting Idea

Have you ever wished you were somebody else?1

Have you ever fantasised about a perfect life?2

Have you ever seen somebody and wished that you could swap lives?3

What if the power to steal a life was yours? Would you do it? I did.4

I don't know when I began. I don't even know what I am. All I know is that I'm not human. 5

They are so lucky; to have lives, to have friends. For a long time I would just inhabit the bodies; it never occurred to me to infiltrate the body of a living one. 6

I knew when a death was coming, and would watch them for some time before they were taken. It is surprising how much you can tell about somebody in just a week or so. They had to be friendless, or else somebody would find the body quickly, and people's minds jump to zombies very quickly.7

But inhabiting the dead shells of people only gives you a glimpse of life. A small spark of electricity when you enter just before the light fades: the body stops functioning; taste, sound and smell disappear; soon it gets too hard for me to lift their limbs and clumsily move their bodies; in the end you just stare out of their eyes as their flesh decays and you are forced to leave. 8

I wanted more than just a spark. I wanted to be ALIVE in their bodies. To taste and smell and FEEL the world as they do. 9

I knew when I saw her. I watched her for days. She was perfect: the perfect human being. I wanted that life. I took it. 10

She fought hard against my infiltration. She was healthy. It took a long time for her to just subside, but in the end she did. In the end, her soul started to merge with mine, except it was ME.11

Memories, passions, loves, they were all mine. 12

I still don't understand it: I became her, but I was still me. I suddenly knew so much about the world because of her, but I was still learning. 13

Now the current of electricity was flowing through me. Not just a feeble spark anymore. 14

I was alive. I became her. 15

A soul without a body, something not quite human, stuck between life and death. 16

It longed to be one of the creatures that it watched so avidly, and when it saw the perfect human... it just couldn't resist. 17

But Liena Terelli is not as perfect as she might appear, and when the spirit steals her life, it will get more than the passion and love that it craves. What happens when it finds that it cannot deal with the heartache, the anger, the despair that comes with being a human?

This is an intriguing idea. Is this "it" or spirit an angel or a demon or something else entirely? Are you going to work on this story some more? I'd like to read it. It would be interesting to read about the human condition from something or someone that is not human.

This sounds like a really cool idea. I'd definitely continue if I were you. I'm interested to see how the spirit handles all the different human emotions, whether it flourishes under their spell, or is destroyed by them.

This could be a brilliant story but then again you can cross over and mimic simular things that have already been done. Such as quantum leap
