Four Play On

Novel chapter 11

If music be the food of love, then to dance is to feast. Every step taken sates the appetite but sharpens the hunger until it consumes the dance, the dancing and the dancer. 2

This is all I have written so far of my long-brooded on modernisation of “Twelfth Night or What You Will”. I have hundreds of notes and more still in my head but keep worrying it will sound stupid to others. So this is being written to see if there's even one person out there who might read it. 4

The story (no title as yet) is told in rounds, with the four main characters alternating in narrating the chapters. Jericho then Orsino then Olivia then Alhena and repeat over and over. 12

Jericho narrates the beginning (above) which describes his and twin sister Alhena's life as travelling entertainers. As dancers on cruise ships they're considered mediocre, affordable and creepy. Their Fred and Ginger style act has a twist that makes ships crews distrust them. But Jericho never explains it, instead describing how close he and Alhena are. They're inside eachother's heads.13
