Guilt

Most kids go out on Halloween night for candy but my friends and I decided to stay in and watch movies. It was me, Josh, Kourtney, Jazzmin, and Casey. 1

We have all been best friends since the second grade. Ever since we met we have been inseparable.2

The door bell rang so I ran down stairs to let my friends in. I opened the door and could tell that Josh had gone trick or treating. Or he had raided his mom’s stash and filled a whole pillow case.3

“I brought the candy” He said holding up the bag4

“And I brought the movies” added Kourtney. We all laughed at the expression Josh had on his face and went up the stairs to my room.5

“Now my dad has put the couch in my room so we have more space to crash.” I said as we walked into my room.6

As Josh and Casey took the couch I put in the first move. Three Warnings None of us had seen it so we were all a little worried about the scare factor. 7

“Dun…dun…dun… The movie ended and all of us had ended up on my bed huddled together. We stared at the screen for a couple minutes after the move ended. 8

“That was…” I heard Casey say9

“Wow?” Kourtney added. All we got from Josh was hyperventilating.10

“Ok.” I say getting up to turn on the lights11

“Let’s agree to never watch that movie again.” I said12

“Agreed” We all said together.13

“Who is as Hungry as me?” Casey asked. We all raised our hands and Jazzmin agrees to go get the food.14

---Twenty Minutes later---15

Jazz still had not come back so we thought that she might need help. I volunteered to go help her.16

I crept down the stairs trying to scare her. I jumped out from behind the wall and yelled “BOO” but I did not hear a scream not even a jump.17

I looked toward the fridge and saw blood trailing from it to the opened back door.18

I took in a deep breath and walk out side. I froze at the horrific sight I saw.19

I screamed and my friends came running.20

“What’s wrong?” Josh asked Then all went silent. 21

We all stared at the tree and some of us started to cry. There is our friend hung in the tree with blood dripping from her fingers.22

The phone rang bringing me from my daze. I ran to go answer it.23

“First was the long hair. Second is the short hair.” Then the line disconnected.24

“Who was it?” I heard Kourtney say from behind me.25

“I don’t know.” I said26

“Well then what did they want?” She asked wanting information.27

Just as I was going to tell her I heard a scream.28

“Casey!” We said together and ran outside.29

We got there and she was on the ground staring at the open gate.30

“What happened?” I asked She pointed to the gate.31

“A man…He took Josh.” She said tears streaking her face.32

“Ok then lets go get him!” I say helping Casey to her feet. We ran out the gate and turned left toward the canal.33

“Oh my gosh!” I said kneeling. 34

“What” They asked me. I held up Josh’s shoe and we started as fast as our legs would carry us.35

We got to the canal and I saw a shirt. I got as close to the edge as I dared and grabbed the shirt pulling it to land.36

“No! Not again?! Not him! Not us!” I screamed looking at Josh’s pale white face.37

When the other two caught up with me Casey fell to her knees and hid her face with her hands. Kourtney dropped to her Knees and grabbed Casey holding her close.38

Kourtney’s phone buzzed and she looked at the message. All the blood left her face and she held her breath. 39

“C comes before K” it said. We both looked up at Casey who had gone still. Her face was disoriented with pain and it looked as if she was not breathing.40

Next thing we know she falls to the ground with a dagger in her back and Kourtney and I are running at full speed.41

“I’m Scared.” Kourtney said as we got to my house. I looked at her with tears in my eyes and gave her a big hug.42

“I know I am to. Lets get to the upstairs closet and keep quiet.” I said as I guided her upstairs. She nodded her head and we hid in the back of the closet.43

My cell rang and I answered it.44

“C comes first you come last.” He said then hung up. My heart stopped and my breath caught in my throat. 45

I needed to go get something. 46

“I’ll be right back.” I said getting up.47

She grabbed my arm. “No please don’t leave me alone!” She pleaded with me. Tears threatening to fall.48

“I’ll be right back. I promise.” I said even though I did not know if I would. She hesitated for a minute then let go. 49

“I promise I’ll come back. I wont abandon you.” I said. My voice breaking once. She looked up at me with hope in her eyes and I left.50

after a few minutes of searching I found the bat I was looking for. I ran to the stairs and began to climb them one at a time.51

I heard a scream and bolted up the remaining four stairs. I ran to the closet I left Kourtney and opened the door.52

I froze. My eyes were so big that I swore they could have popped out of my head.53

There my last friend was. laying in a closet with a knife through her heart.I slid to the floor and cried. I would not care if he came and killed me right now. I have nothing left. 54

“Why?” I called out. Knowing he would be able to hear me. Nothing. I thought for a minute. Why would anybody do this?55

Then something came to me. “Wait” I said to no one really.56

“Three Warnings! That’s what you are doing! You are killing every one that you once cared about but they betrayed you! But we don’t even know you ! So why are you doing this to us?” I said not hiding the anger in my voice anymore.57

My phone buzzed.58

“No but your parents did!” Was the message on the screen.59

“Then why are you taking your anger out on us? They are the ones who betrayed you!” I yelled out to him.60

My screen flashed again. “Because they love you guys the most!” He said.61

I got up and ran to the Kitchen. I went through all the drawers till I found what I wanted.62

I pulled it out and the light glinted off the silver blade.63

I put it to my throat.64

“You can’t kill someone who is dead!” I yelled and dragged the blade across my skin, blood pouring from the wound.65

I fall to the floor and with my last breath I shed a single tear.66
