Call Me

It's really short, is supposed to be that way and will remain that way. Feel free to point out mistakes and make suggestions. I think I need them! 1

It was pure chance that I met him. Normally at this time of the day I would be in class. However, for some reason the professor that had use of the room before my own teacher decided to lecture about ten minutes over the time his class was supposed to end. So, that left me and my classmates waiting outside in the hallway.3

He came through the end doors. At first, I didn't recognize him and was wondering why he held such steady eye contact with me. Then he smiled and suddenly I was thirteen years old again, standing outside science class, waiting for him to come by so I could pass him the note I had spent the previous hour writing. I perfected every word until I was sure that if his answer was no, neither of us would be embarrassed.4

I smiled back and to my surprise he stopped. "Hey, how have you been?" His eyes sparkled and my heart skipped a beat. His voice was deeper than I remembered. 5

Tightening my grip on my textbook, I reply, "Good, you?" and hope I don't sound as breathless as I feel.6

"Perfect." I laugh at his tone, which only makes his smile grow. "You know, Amy, I was just thinking about you the other day. That's weird, huh? I didn't even know you went to this college!" For some reason he blushes and lifts his hand to touch the back of his neck. The gesture throws me back six years again.7

We are standing in front of the trophy case in our middle school, palms sweaty, nerves jumpy. Half expecting a teacher or peer to pop around the corner and catch us, he leans forward quickly, kisses me gently, and blushes, his hand automatically reaching behind his head.8

"Still as talkative as ever, I see." Now he is laughing at me, teasing me about my shyness.9

"Some things never change." I say back, tossing my hair over my shoulder. His eyes follow the movement. For a moment I wonder what he is thinking about. "Don't you think you should get going?" I say, pulling him back to reality.10

We both almost wince and look away. The words are too close to the last thing I ever said to him.11

"Yeah, I'm going to be late." He finally admits. "Hey, would it be okay if I called you later? We should catch up on some things." 12

He reaches out and brushes my shoulder. Its almost like he decided against touching me at the last minute, but it was already too late to stop the motion.13

I grin at his awkwardness, thinking about the time we went on a class field trip. He wanted to teach me to swim since the center we where visiting had an indoor pool, but was too nervous to touch me. I ended up having to nearly drown. The stunt was not entirely on purpose.14

"My number hasn't changed." I tell him. He tells me how good it was to see me and says goodbye. Then he starts off down the hallway.15

"Hey, Timothy!" I yell after him. He stopped, turned. "Make sure you call this time, okay?"16

He beams at me. That is the very look I fell in love with the first time.17

"I promise!" He calls back.18

I close my eyes. Well, maybe now I won't have to try and forget him. I think as he walks away. 19

Hm...switched from past to present a bit too abruptly there.

Hm...did they break up? Why...oh, the whole haven't-gottn-over deal, lol.

    Cute.
