So many wonder: "What is love?" 1
Many call love a noun, an unstoppable binding force that simply is, the verb of love forcibly emanating from this power to bind it's captives in selfless servitude to one another. Other's call love a verb, an action that by its very nature creates that noun by virtue of selfless service. So, does love simply exist, and by so being create the action of love? Or is love an action, and by so doing create the noun of love? Which is it?2
Is love created, or does it simply exist?3
What I know is this: When I serve out of love, my love grows. I also have felt love, and longed with all my heart to serve.4
There is physical attraction, which in my opinion is simply animal instinct, a desire to unite with another based on primordial urges instilled in us by years of evolutionary modeling. Curvaceous equals good young bearing and suckling capacity in a woman. Angular and blocky equals good protective capacity in a man as haven for that union.5
And then there is spiritual attraction, which puts all of evolution on its ass. I have read of devoted couples so attached as to die within days of the others passing. Then, of devoted couples who tirelessly dote on one another, each an unerring emanation of love from some magical place. Physical attraction has not this power, and is easily ruined. But this spiritual attraction, it is power beyond all things. It is the kind of thing that brings a man to marry a quadriplegic, or a woman to continue in love unerringly to her husband the newly quadriplegic, not out of obligation but of pure love. Love born of obligation and service breeds appreciation. But is love appreciation? Must we create love? I truly believe so. But what of this magical power that pulls the action of love inexorably from us, to where we can do nothing but show it? Is it a fairy tale? I am often led to believe that yes, this supposedly inexorable force of the heart is indeed a fairy tale. Why? Because so many fail when they cease to treat love as a verb. Is it because the magical power has faded? Is commitment so fickle as to be hinged upon something so ephemeral and airy as this noun? I think it's a little bit of both. Love is bifurcated between action and existence, and each nurtures the other. That's what I think. But it is tempting to think of a magical power that demands nothing but our complete and utter devotion with unerring exactitude. Love is demanding, and rewards are only given to those who heed the call.6

I absolutely love all of the rhetorical questions. This was written beautifully, complete with excellent diction and eloquence. Gorgeous tie-in.
Good luck in the contest!

I don't think that this is shit at all. I enjoyed reading this.
"Is love created, or does it simply exist?" was my favorite line and I was wondering if I could use it on my author's page?
This is something deep and it kinda has me thinking right now.

Wow! Great job! It kind of reminded me of the Intro to my book that I'm writing (it's on my page, if you want to take a look). lol. The first sentance made me think of that one song. "What is love? Baby, don't hurt me. Don't hurt me no more." lol! But yeah, really good job! I love reading little rants about deep questions.
