the serpent

I remember the night you held me close-1

The night those eyes softened enough, 2

So that the gates of love could be thrown open3

And I could travel through your heart.4

I have never seen such vibrance-5

Such intense purples and blues,6

Christened by the light of the morning and the fresh dew-7

That laid itself upon your soul.8

How innocent those kisses were...9

Yet hungry enough to send a chill down the spine.10

Kisses only for me-- embraces only ours-11

In the deepest night,12

Broken only by one single light-13

Our passion for our adjoined lives,14

From that point forward.15

Last night I looked into your eyes again-16

The same undying flame was there,17

Etching an intricate masterpiece of memories,18

And recalling the past.19

Two years lived, but not gone. 20

The essence of life is in those pasttimes.21

In our tears, we caress eachother-22

Whether near or far.23

Always wishing away the day-24

To embrace the nighttime, again.25

Only in night, can we truly be at peace.26

Your arms wrap around my body, and I feel secure.27

The rise and fall of your chest against my fragile back,28

Brings comfort into view.29

And in your arms, I am guided to the field of dreams-30

Where no obstacles can threaten to tear me down.31

The real world does not exist,32

But is only a temporary place to endure.33

And in the morning when we rise,34

Nothing seems more beautiful,35

Then the waking moments,36

Where I see your eyes-37

She cut her beautiful blonde hair, just to feel as if she could breathe.38

The moonlight would caress her and bring her back to life--39

If only she waited a while longer, and the tears would stop pouring from her eyes.40

The smiles of the past warmed her heart, yet left her hopeless and broken-hearted.  Where had that life gone?  Where was the pastel vibrance--- the array of colors that burned so bright on the palate of her soul?  But still, in this night-- It was beautiful.  Loneliness was a solemn snake, gliding over the pond waters... And within an instant, she let her locks go into the water, floating and separating... away with the ripples created by the soft night wind.41

"Goodbye, tears... Goodbye lonesome nights... The times we've laughed, the times we've cried--- the times I truly felt alive..."  She bowed her head and sank to her knees.  The soft earth seemed to hold her in her arms.  Solitary tears dripped from her face.42

"I am alive... I feel.  Oh god, why do I feel?"  She whispered.  Her fragile body became as cold and empty as ice... Her hands detained the last speck of warmth.  She tried so hard to keep from freezing completely, and losing her very heart.43

"Be brave... be strong... Get up... I must do this!"  She spoke, with her breath seeming to fail her in the moment...44

Get up... get up....45

Her body was turning to stone... A cold, harsh, dusty diamond, never to be melted by the warmth of another fire.  Mutilation was her new existance... She no longer had her beauty, and her blue-eyed knight in shining armor had smiled his last smile.  He turned his back on her and walked away...  And further into the horizon he went-- romancing other beautiful creatures that had far more to offer.46

"How come I am left alone?  I love myself for who I am, but I am empty... Alone... Worthless."  She then touched a hand to the river.  The serpent encircled her arm, and slithered up it with grace.  No fear rushed through her veins.  She became silent and still.  47

Within moments, he sunk his teeth into her flesh.  Her eyelids tightened, but she hardly flinched.  She'd been infected with the poison of loss... the deadly toxin of loneliness... And although she had sacrificed her most prized possession to the night, she was still losing a battle she was never meant to win.48

"Struggle...keep moving on...."49

Memories of the incessant pain... The drunkeness... The drugs... The rape... Madness!  Absolute MADNESS!50

"Make it stop!"  51

Her head banged against the bottom of the desk... once, twice, three times, four times...  Tears overflowed, dizziness was a reality.52

I want him back!  I WANT HIM BACK!  ALL I WANT IS TO HOLD HIM! GIVE HIM TO ME!53

...And then she awoke... Laying on the ground, facing the luminescent moon.  She had her life still, but walked the earth as an empty shell.54

...God please, bring that feeling I used to have in my heart---back.  Please...55
