Summer Where?

She had all but given up on love. Her life seemed mundane and so regimented. Wake up, get the kids ready, take them to daycare, go to work, collect the kids, go home, clean and cook, go to bed. Every day the same nothing ever changed. Her lovelife up to now had not been great. Admittedly she had made the wrong choices and paid dearly for them. She had fled in the middle of the night carrying her kids and taking their clothes - anything to get away from the monster who supposedly loved her. Fled not knowing whether she would find a job and not having anyone else to go to but mommy and daddy. The kids were so upset - where was their daddy? As time went by of course that also faded as the bruises inflicted upon her body and soul faded.1

She got a job and proceeded to care for the kids, slowly building up a tattered existence to a life again. The endless routine though just killed her soul. After finally seeking help for a major case of depression she started writing again. The first words about a butterfly slowly awakening to life and feeling again. It wasn't very good but still it started a life so much more fulfilled than she could ever imagine.2

He was just as lonely. His life filled with pain and loneliness just never seemed to improve. He spent days on the internet and nights writing. His gift of wordweaving so exquisite yet no one to really share it with. His heart was maimed and he felt caged by his solitude. Of course he reached out and tried his hand at love but he could never find his mirror, his soulmate and his best friend. It seemed to him that he never would. Somewhere surely she must be hiding from him and he looked everywhere to fill the gaping hole of need. Always he failed to reach her and he had all but given up hope.3

Finally he gathered up some courage and started posting his marvellous words on the internet. He seemed to be drawn to a site for poets and he felt that somehow this was destined. He kept on reading others works and he kept on posting but still nothing happened. He had been so sure that she would be here and yet no sign of her once again. Two months went by of this and he was about to give up his search for good.4

She had now found her inner muse and was writing daily. Sleeping was becoming a commodity so precious that she could not remember when last she had not been woken up by sudden inspiration. Yet, she had all the material and no source of feedback so one day she joined the very same site he had joined two months ago. She could not post for fear that her work would be laughed at but at last she did manage to do so. For the most part though she read, no devoured, the pieces of others. She read a piece by one of her favorites on the fifth day at this site and was touched by a comment made on it and totally forgot the original poem. She knew this comment was a stanza out of a longer piece and she knew what the rest of the poem looked like. Shocked she looked at it and proceeded to give the poet all the attention this deserved. She left it and forgot all about her comment.5

A day later he ran across her reply and he froze as well - she seemed to know the rest of his poem and he wanted to know how. He sent her a message - HEAVENS WHY? - and she was stunned to see this. He wanted to know and she did not know how to tell him. She had never felt so unsure of herself but she answered him that very moment. She gave him the rest of the poem and she gave him details of how he struggled to write it. 6

What happened next of course is predictable to most but still within the communication unfolds the most beautiful love story. A love so pure and inspiration shared became a daily light in both their lifes. They graduated from email to messenger to Voice over Internet and webcams and nothing was hidden anymore. Because they relied on communication and talking the bonds between them deepened on spiritual and emotional levels and it wasn't long before they knew everything there was to know about each other. One day while talking and using the webcams she saw his eyes when he declared his love for her and she knew that this was it - this was love. He had written her countless poems and she had returned the favor and life just never seemed better but something was missing - she dearly wanted to hold him if only for a moment and that was completely out of the question with an ocean separating them.7

All that could be done was to meet. Someone had to take the plunge and fly to the other and they decided it would be her. The ticket was bought, the hotel booked and finally the day arrived. They were both so frightened. Questions and insecurities were so strong in both their minds. "Would he/ she like me?" The biggest fear they both knew for in their hearts they were already one. The flight seemed to drag on forever and she had taken a sleeping tablet to shorten it for herself. He could not sleep thinking about her on that plane inching closer or so it seemed.8

The hours dragged by and after what seemed an eternity the plane landed at the airport. She felt drained and exhilirated, he felt apprehensive and his heart was beating so fast he thought it would surely stop once he saw her. She freshened up after getting her luggage and so cautiously entered the arrivals hall looking for his beloved face amongst the crowds. People were all around welcoming family and friends and she seemed stranded in a strange country with no familiar face around and no idea how to get to her hotel. In the meantime he was watching her from his vantage point taking in her beloved face, caressing every feature in his mind and knowing that this woman was his. He moved towards her slowly holding out his arms to embrace her for the first time. Her eyes were gkued to his and she fell into his embrace as if she had come home at last.9

The whole world ceased to exist as they explored the other with their eyes and drinking in each drop of love and physical touch. After what seemed like an eternity he took her luggage and her hand and lead her to his car. Silently they walked hand in hand - content to be silent after endless talking, knowing that this moment would forever be burned upon their hearts and knowing they had found the mirror they had searched for so long.10

Oh how I love stories with happy endings. I'm sure this scene has been played out hundreds if not thousands of times before. Guy meets girl, falls in love, and lives happily ever after. Aint the internet grand? Well done my new friend.
