Time Will Tell (Harry Potter Fan-Fic)

Chapter 1:1

The scarlet steam engine sat majestically in the center of Platform 9 3/4; inlayed gold lettering scrawled upon each of her sides read 'Hogwarts Express.' Surrounding the towering locomotive stood small clusters of families bidding farewell, friends reunited, and enemies sharing a cold glance at a distance. Akira Scott and her father stood near brick barrier separating the wizarding world from that of the muggle, sharing a warm embrace. 2

"Dad….Can't….Breathe…" Trenton Scott, a man of 45 with a tall broad frame, dressed in a mixture of a muggle dress suit with a wizards bright lilac cloak, loosened his hold and pulled back slightly from his daughter. Akira proceeded to take a few large intakes of warm air and let her face turn back to the normal shade of pale before speaking again. 3

"Well I guess this is where we….errr……separate?" Trenton brushed a hand through his graying, dirty blond hair and sighed deeply.4

"Yes, I suppose you are right." He lifted his eyes from the ground and met his daughter's ocean blue eyes. "Please be on your best behavior, Akira. Ever since your mother di-"5

"You don't have to worry dad, I promise I'll wait a few weeks before my first homicide, ok?" Both father and daughter shared one more smile and quick hug before Akira tossed her own long golden locks behind her and picked up her trunk in one hand and owl cage in the other. 6

"Hogwarts be ready….She is her mothers daughter." Trenton Scott placed the tall top hat back on his head as his dark brown eyes watched Akira weave her way through the crowded platform and step up into a car. 7

'Why is it he always has to make a point to tell me to behave….I always behave…..I'm a regular damn goody freaking two shoes….What the hell?' Akira's eyes shot forward to where the corridors of the train converged into a small open center. There in the middle stood a circle of both female and male cheering/jeering voices. Akira stalked forward and pushed herself too the inside of the ring, earning her various shouts of protest, all of which she either ignored, or held up a middle finger too without a second glance. She finally came out on the other side of the smelly wizard wall, and was met with the angering sight of a tall blond guy towering over the small crumpled form of a boy who appeared to be her age. Akira scanned the surrounding crowd in disgust. Most of them looked like older classmen except for a boy with messy black hair and glasses who also didn't appear to be enjoying the show. Akira rolled her eyes in disbelief and drew her wand out of her cloak pocket. 8

"Expelliarmus!" She shouted with a wave of her hand. But instead of just flying backwards into a large portion of the surrounding crowd, most who were wearing emerald green and silver robes, the assailants ears and nose began to leak a sickly yellow and green emission. The crowd immediately grew silent and turned in her direction. Akira walked stepped forward and placed a hand under one arm of the crumpled figure. 9

"Here let me help." A soft voice stated on the other side of Akira and the boy. She looked up and was met with the large hazel eyes and black disheveled hair of,10

"James Potter. Now who would've known that a disarming spell when mixed with a pus hex, could create such a colorful ending result?" He stated with a small smile, while bending down and grabbing the other arm of rather round boy. Before Akira could give her own name, the cold tip of a wand was pressed into the back of her neck. 11

"Uhb do I habe dhe pweasure ob kilwing." 12

Akira couldn't help but burst out in laughter at the sound of a stuffy struggling voice drifting to her ears. And James couldn't help but smirk as he looked up and over Akira's shoulder at the glowering ice blue eyes of the attackee. Akira slowly stood, the tip of the wand starting to spark painfully against her bare skin. She wheeled around defiantly.13

"Eww! That is definitely a face for radio!" She spout out looking up at the figure whose front robes and face were covered in a sticky green substance. A tall blond girl with sharp features laid a protective hand on the tall males shoulder and scoffed.14

"You would do well to respect your superiors. Especially one such as Lucius Malfoy, you filth!" Her high pitched snobbish tone caused Akira roll her eyes. 15

"I don't know what you have been smoking Barbie, but I only show respect to those who deserve it. This," Akira stated waving her hand to the black and blue boy on the ground behind her, "Does not deserve respect." The blonde recoiled as if she had been slapped, and drew her wand. 16

"Why you litt-"17

"Oi! Nar-chicka!" All heads turned to the lean silhouette that walked up and stood in front of Akira. 18

"That is Narcissa to you, blood traitor." The blonde girl replied venomously. 19

"Come now, is that any way to treat your faaavoorriiittte cous-"20

"Do we have a problem here?" An authoritative voice boomed down the corridor. All eyes looked over to see the stocky Trolley Pusher standing with her hands on her hips, tapping her foot in annoyance. The group of elder students shot warning glances at the four first years then turned heel and stalked off. The boy who had stepped in front of Akira spun around and smiled. 21

"You, my fair one, may call your savior by the name of Sirius, Sirius Black." Akira rolled her eyes. She looked over the boys' features that screamed cocky jerk. He had grey eyes that matched the color of the sea on a stormy day, shaggy black hair, and a hansom rugged façade. He reached out and caught Akira's hand and brought it up to his lips. 22

"And you are?" He locked his steel eyes with Akira's wide blue ones. She snorted and ripped her hand out of his grasp.23

"So NOT Interested!" Ignoring Sirius' clearly shocked face, for he had been hoping for an entirely different reaction from her, she turned a bent back down to the boy on the ground. James let out a laugh at Akira's dismissal. Sirius shot him a dark glance. 24

"And you would be?" Sirius asked in an annoyed tone. 25

"James Potter." Sirius' face immediately lit up. 26

"Potter Eh? Bet you'll be in Gryffindor then?" James merely nodded in return. Sirius continued. "Well it appears that we shall be bunk buddies." Sirius stuck out his hand, as James gave him a quizzical look over his large black frames. 27

"You're a Black though, aren't they practically Slytherin incarnate?" Sirius smirk only grew wider. 28

"Let's just say I plan on breaking 'family tradition'." He winked. A small groan erupted from the balled up character on the ground. Akira and James immediately reached forward and helped him to his feet. The boy's small stocky frame accompanied by his large front teeth and big watery eyes almost gave him a mouse like quality. 29

"Hey. Are you ok, I mean you did just get beaten to a pulp." Akira stated trying to steady the boys swaying motion. James threw her a glance then nodded to a near by compartment. Akira immediately understood and both she and James began dragging the boy to the sliding door. 30

"Oi! Blackhead? The door…" Akira called over her shoulder. Sirius growled has he brushed passed her and roughly threw open the door. 31

"That's just Black, thank you." Sirius hissed. Akira rolled her eyes, and followed him in to the compartment. She and James set the boy down onto a cushioned bench. His large eyes peered around stunned. 32

"I-I'm P-Peter P-P-Pettigrew." He stuttered looking down at his shoes. 33

"It's nice to meet you Peter, even under these circumstances." Akira said comfortingly. She pointed to James who had sat across from her and Peter. 34

"That's James and beside him is Sirius, and beside him is- actually I don't know who that is." Akira said giving a curious glimpse to the boy on Sirius' right. He had a pale and wan look about him, which was only intensified by his shaggy blond hair. The book he held in his lap was thick but currently ignored, as it appeared he was asleep with his chin resting on his chest. 35

"Remus Lupin." James stated as if it were obvious. He rolled his hazel eyes at the demanding looks he got and pointed to the trunk above Akira's head. On it was the name that James had just voiced. Akira just shrugged her shoulders and turned back to Peter. 36

"And I am-"37

"So NOT Interested." Sirius finished in a high-pitched squeal smugly. James chuckled lightly as Akira shot him eye daggers. 38

"Is that French?" Peter asked looking back and forth between his compartment mates. There was a short pause before James and Sirius burst out in waves of laughter. Peter shrunk back into his seat as if trying to become one with the vinyl. Akira just glared at the two hyenas. 39

"Actually." She stated trying to be heard over James' and Sirius' braying. "It is Akira Scott." And just as suddenly as the laughter started, it stopped. Akira looked over across the small space and into the wide eyes of her fellow travelers. 40

"Scott?" James questioned in disbelief. "As in Trenton Scott?" Akira shifted uncomfortably in her chair. She knew about her dad's past, and she knew it haunted them both deeply. 41

"He was the professor-" She cut James off mid way, 42

"And a writer and a very good man!!" She shot back defensively, shoving her hands in her pockets to hug and caress her mothers' locket with her fingers. James threw her a sideways glance, gratefully dropping the subject. He stared at Akira intently as she continued to move her hand around in her pocket.43

"What're you doing?" He asked, finally unable to contain the question. 44

"I'm petting Diz..." She said flatly, pulling a little blue and purple serpent out of her pocket by his tail. James pushed his glasses up further on his nose. To the left of him, Sirius' eyes grew wide with curiosity. The little statue perched on her slim finger began to clean his wings, oblivious to its sudden popularity.45

"That's a hell of a creature..." He said studying the elegant little figurine perched upon Akira's fingers. James was still observing Diz while Sirius was chatting casually when a few soft knocks sounded on the door. 46

"Yes?" 47

A little blonde girl poked her head around the protective screen, smiling sweetly and waving to the party of five.48

"All of the other carts are quite full, and I was wondering if there was room in this one?" The blush on her cheeks radiating off of her pale skin. Sirius stood at once, taking her hand and bowing slightly, 49

"Name's Black, Sirius Black... And who do I have the pleasure of inviting?" The little girl's face twisted in disgust as she ripped her hand out of his as fast as he had grabbed it, knocking him right off his rocker. He stood shocked for a moment as she spoke,50

"Didn't your mother teach you any manners?!" She waggled her finger disapprovingly at him as he held his cheek.51

"Aaaahh, I was using manners!" He whined sitting down to pout. She momentarily turned her attention to Akira, and the little dragon perched on her finger. Her eyes lit up and she sat down next to her, interrogating her with question after question.52

An hour later, Akira was asleep, the little girl now known as Raven, was pampering Diz, and Peter, James, and Sirius were eating Bertie Bott's and Jelly skulls, laughing and joking and waiting for the Remus boy to wake up and join the fun. A few moments later, a shy knock echoed through the cart, everyone except the sleeping lovelies turned their attention to the screen. Looking through the glass window, the source of the noise could not be seen. 53

"That's weird." Sirius stated looking around. "Did anyone else hear that?" All heads nodded in unison. Sirius stood up and slid back the door. His eyes scanned the hallway to the right and left, then drifted down. 54

"Err Hello?" Sirius cocked his head to the side at the sight of a petite frame topped with a mass of brown curls, bent down tying her shoe. 55

"Oh...Forgive me.." She whispered shyly standing up, hair still acting as a rich chocolate brown veil, shielding her face. "Might I inquirer as to the availability of seating in this compartment? All others seem to have reached their max capacity." Her head bowed forward, hands picking at the binding of the thick volume in her hands. 56

"W-What?!" Sirius pulled back in confusion. James snickered in the background.57

"She's asking if there is any room in this place cause all the rest are filled……dolt." Akira grumbled shifting in her seat. Sirius shot her a dark glance, and then turned back to the new arrival. 58

"What's your name sweetie?" He purred moving to the side to allow her entry into the compartment. 59

"Phaedra Nock." She stated quietly keeping her head down. 60

"Well my dear Phaedra it appears that all the seats are taken up but one." Sirius smirked sitting back down against the leather of his chair. Phaedra lifted her eyes in question. Sirius patted his lap. 61

"This one." He stated simply. Phaedra jumped back in surprise at his bluntness. James just shook his head. 62

"Don't listen to him." He said motioning to the still smirking Sirius, while kicking the still sleeping form of Remus next to him. Remus stirred slightly and sat up a little straighter opening a small space for Phaedra to gratefully slide into. 63

"Thank you…" she murmured opening her book. Sirius scoffed and turned his nose up. 64

"What is wrong with girls our age?" He asked disapprovingly. Akira opened an eye and raised a thin, shapely eyebrow. 65

"I don't know Blackhead maybe we possess a certain quality you aren't used to dealing with." She sat up and gave Phaedra a curious look over then turned her attention back to an unimpressed looking Sirius. 66

"And what, pray tell, would that be Scotty? Blindness?" Sirius chuckled. 67

"Actually I was thinking more along the lines of 'Self Respect.' Plus it doesn't exactly take a person with 20/20 vision to see that you are a conceded prat. You practically give off a scent." Akira set back as all but Sirius and the still slumbering Remus, laughed. Even the seemingly quiet natured Phaedra let out an airy giggle. Sirius then let a smirk light up his hansom features. 68

"You were smelling me Akira?" Akira rolled her eyes. 69

"Don’t even flatter yourself. I have three little words for you; Lather, Rinse, Repeat." All the occupants laughed again.70

"Look!" James pointed out of the window to a large castle, all of the windows illuminated against the otherwise ebony skies and turrets.71

"Wow..." They all breathed, taking in the sheer size of the castle.72

"You guys prepared... Let's make the first year the best one!" James grinned wickedly, rubbing his hands diabolically.73

"Oh, what have I gotten myself into?" Akira sighed, placing the drowsy dragon into her cloak pocket.74

Each member of the compartment grabbed their respective trunks and made their way out into the bustling corridors of the Hogwarts Express. The recently acquainted first years found themselves soon separated in the swell and wane of the crowd. Akira stepped off the small stair and landed on the wooden planks of the Hogsmede platform. 75

"Aye Firs' Years O're Here! All Firs' Years!" Akira followed the booming voice resonating over the humming masses. Her eyes grew wide at the sight of a large man standing a clean 1ft and a half taller than the seventh years. His hair and beard was shambles of brown bushy clumps that swallowed every facial feature.76

"Akira!!!!" A voice squealed before latching onto her free arm. Akira tore her curious gaze away from the giant and looked down at Raven who clung onto her appendage as if it was the only thing preventing her from floating up into space. 77

"Err Raven?" The petite blond looked up, her eyes glassy with excitement. "No offense but I have a personal bubble, and you are violating that said bubble." Raven just nodded enthusiastically and let go, still standing shoulder to shoulder. Akira rolled her eyes and caught sight of a mass of brown curls silently weaving through the crowd of older students. 78

"Oi! Phaedra!" The book hugging childlike frame of Phaedra froze; her eyes scanned the surrounding faces, and finally caught sight of Akira. She and the smaller blond beckoned her over with subtle waves. As Phaedra took up her post on Akira's right, the giant of a man turned to them. He beamed at them with a wide smile, rosy cheeks, and small black eyes that crinkled in the corner signifying that smiling was a common occurrence on his façade. 79

"All Righ' Firs' years. I'm Hagrid, Keeper of Key's and Games at yer new school for the next seven year's. It' an ol' tradi'ion of Hogwarts tha' all new comers take the boats up to ther castle. And a spectacul'er sight that'll be too. Now leave yer trunks here, they'll be taken up to the castle for yer." At fist Akira found it difficult to understand Hagrid; his accent playing thickly on each word that escaped lips, hidden behind a thick dark facial hair. The entire group shuffled after the games keeper and soon found themselves on the edge of a large lake. The black waters rippled lightly in the cool breeze that traveled across from the north. Lining the beach was an accumulation of small wooden boats. Akira saw Raven eyeing them skeptical beside her, shaking. 80

"Hey are you okay?" Raven turned up to Akira, her face pale with trepidation. 81

"Yeah. It's just I can't swim." Ravens deep brown eyes flashed with unease. 82

"It's okay, they lake looks perfectly saf-"83

"Oi! Load up! Three to a boat, and be sure to keep yer hands and feet away from the edge. The giant squid isn't the only one in here that'll pull you o'er." Raven let out a small whimper and suctioned herself back onto Akira's arm. Akira rolled her eyes and stepped into a boat. It swayed dangerously beneath her and Raven's feet. 84

"Try not to drown Scotch Tape!" Akira narrowed her eyes and looked to her right. Lying back smugly, one arm behind his head, the other splashing in the onyx liquid, was Sirius Black. Akira snorted, taking a seat, followed closely by Phaedra, who seemed too absorbed in her large novel, to notice her current surroundings. 85

"Is that the best name you could come up with Blackhead, 'Scotch Tape?" Sirius scowled, beside him was James who let out a small chuckle. Lupin, exactly as Phaedra, had sat down and cracked open his book, trying hard to ignore the squabble between boats. Akira continued. 86

"Plus if I were you Black, I would be more afraid of my giant head acting as an anchor and submerging the boat!" Before Sirius could retort the wooden boats lurched forward on their own accord and pulled out onto the open waters. Raven squirmed even closer to Akira all but sitting on her lap. 87

"Ugh! Raven it's okay, nothing's gonna get you!" Akaira tried to inch away, only to be caught tighter in her death grip.88

"Yeah, except the giant squid that lives here! Oh and the mermaids. And I guess the gryndylows have been pretty active these last few years. Funny thing about that too, they seem to prefer the blood of a fresh killed blond girl." Sirius yelled across the short distance.89

"Eeeek!" She jumped onto Akira, grabbing on to her cloak and hair and anything else that she could wrap her fingers around. 90

"Ow!" She yelped as the shivering Raven pulled herself closer. Akira had managed to pry her off by the time the boat had arrived, scowling at the snickering Sirius the entire trip.91

"Alright, firs' years this way!" The giant had boomed over the excitement, making his way up to the humongous inlayed double doors. A blast of warm welcoming air hit the chilled faces of the first year students as the bustled into the Entrance Hall. The massive room was lit by torches hanging from the stonewalls, the ceiling reaching so high that it could not be seen, and in front of the wide eyed group lay a grand marble staircase that led to the upper floors. Hagrid led the shuffling group into the center of the colossal room and turned. 92

"Well, this is where I leaves you. Perffesor McGonagall shall come ter get you soon for the sorting ceremony. Goo' Luck First Year's!" With that said and a wave of his large hand, Hagrid stalked off. Whispers and talk immediately erupted in waves. 93

"So!" Squeaked Raven, looking up at Akira, "What do we do no-" Her words were cut off by a stern voice. 94

"Follow me please!" All heads turned to the marble staircase; the descending form of a black haired witch in billowing emerald robes drifted towards them. Glasses sat perched high on her pointed nose, making her all ready sharp features, more elongated. She immediately brushed by the group, and led them into a small room off to the side of a large door to the right, where multitudes of voices hummed beyond. The first years pushed closer together than what was necessary, nervous eyes scanning their surroundings. 95

"Welcome to your new school, Hogwarts. I am Professor McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress, Head of Gryffindor House, and Transfiguration teacher. Here at Hogwarts, we sort every new student into a House that will best nurture your talents to your full potential. There are four different but equally respectable houses. They are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Beyond these doors lies the Great Hall, where before you are allowed to take a table, you are to be Sorted. Now if you would form a single line, we may proceed."96

Akira felt herself pushed into a long line, Raven in front of her and the corner of Phaedra's book pressing into the small of her back. Professor McGonagall led them back across the flagstone of the entrance hall to the door of a hundred murmuring voices. With an effortless push the door swung open. A collective gasp emitted from the line as the first years shuffled in. Akira walked through the threshold immediately captured in the mystery and magic of the Great Hall. Thousands of suspended candles lit the room. Four long tables set with golden plates and goblets stretched across the stone floor while decorative banners of the house mascots hung above. The rest of the students had apparently taken the tables that matched the color of their robes. Akira's attention drifted across the curious, lingering eyes of the older students, narrowing at a pair of familiar icy blue orbs. Malfoy and his group from the train sat around the table on the far left, the banner of the serpent swaying ominously overhead. Akira simply waved enthusiastically at the self proclaimed Slytherin Prince, before bringing her hand to a stop and curling all fingers down but the middle digit. She smiled as Narcissa and Malfoy's lips pulled tight into identical sneers at Akira's gesture. 97

She merely snickered, continuing her way up the long aisle. Raven was busy talking to Akira as everyone was being sorted, Professor McGonagall was calling names alphabetically, so Akira would be one of the last ones. Phaedra had already been called and put into Gryffindor; it took long enough, along with James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter. 98

"Raven Sarock?" The cat like woman called out. Raven gasped, 99

"That's me That’s me That's ME!!" She squealed at Akira, running up and sitting on the small stool with a large grin on her face. The hat's face twisted in concentration before finally calling out Gryffindor house. She clapped her hands and jogged over to her table, blushing at all the claps and cheers.100

"Akira Scott?" The professor looked at the name as if it were an omen of some sort, the room broke into whispers and gasps as she walked up, snarling. The old hat was placed on her head, and there was hardly even a pause before it yelled out Gryffindor. She rolled her eyes at the weary claps she received, returning venomous glances at whoever shot them.101

Raven and James waved at her, scooting over to make room.102

"Goody, I get stuck with all of you goons!" She spat, in a now sour mood from her welcome.103

"Awww, cheer up, at least your not stuck with the conceded gits over at that table." He jabbed his thumb in Slytherin's direction. She snorted,104

"I'm stuck with one of them." She glared at the laid back and lazy form of Sirius as he charmingly picked his teeth with a knife. James chuckled,105

"I think we'll survive, look at those two, there practically best buds already!" He pointed over to the Remus and Phaedra. They found themselves across from each other; their plates hidden beneath the leather and paper fold's of the books they were digesting in silence. 106

Akira then glanced in Raven's direction next, watching her giggling hysterically as she repeatedly poked at the little Peter boy, making him more and more uncomfortable every passing minute.107

"So, welcome to the pack." Sirius yawned, stretching his oh-so-worked muscles, preparing for the feast. A multitude of girlish sighs and giggles erupted from the Ravenclaw table behind Sirius as he continued to work his muscles loose. Akira rolled her eyes as a look of pure smug elation passed of Sirius' face. He turned and winked at the Ravenclaw girls before turning back around and wiggling his eyebrows at Akira. 108

"Oh Please, I plan on having nothing to do with you this year." Akira stated flatly. 109

Sirius smirked, sprawling out his limbs as the mass of food appeared magically in front of everyone. Akira merely looked on in amusement as the rest tables burst to life, as seemingly half starved magical beings grabbed and summoned various food items onto their plates. She was especially entertained when Peter's Accio-ed bread pudding veered off course and flew right into Sirius' face with a hilarious 'SMACK!' Tuning out the broken apologies and mad ramblings from both Peter and Sirius, Akira looked down and poked at the few items of food she grabbed by reflex. Her eyes flickered sideways to Phaedra who was currently doing the same thing. Akira audibly sighed, mentally cringing at the thought of trying to devour this human food…..

Author notes

Sorry this is kind of jumpy, but I was forced to cut down on a lot of the detail (even the Sorting Hat song!) in an attempt to get it to wane to the word limit! I hope for the most part that it still makes a little sense.

I tend to not like other characters that have that sort of personality that Akira does.
However I liked it, she was funny and witty.
And I kind of want to find out what she is....
Good job and good luck in the contest!

This is very, very good. It was sooo funny! I didn't quite get some of it, especially the last sentence, but I liked it anyways. Hopefully there will be more! Good luck and keep writing!

Cool, I like the marauder era all except for James and Sirius. the way you wrote them in seems about right; arrogant and all. It was a nice read but it was jumpy as you said, maybe make it in to two parts? Just a suggestion....
