INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY10

Students are going to their lockers after school. As a voice is narrating the scene, the camera begins to focus on one specific girl (Kaleigh) going to her locker.11

Narrator: I have many memories that can make me smile when I think about them, but not many are as etched in my memory as one specific October afternoon.12

(By this time, Kaleigh has opened her locker, and is putting her books in her backpack)13

Narrator: I have always been lazy. I always got a ride home when I should have walked. On this day, however, I had no choice. The strange thing is that logically, I should have walked with Sarah (Sarah walks by and waves to Kaleigh, Kaleigh waves back). Instead, I walked alone.14

Cut to:15

EXT. STREET16

People are walking in all directions, and camera is focused on Kaleigh. She is walking alone, holding a sweater and hat.17

(Kaleigh looks both ways on the street, first to the right, then the left. 18

(Head on shot of Kaleigh walking toward camera. Peter is walking behind her, quickly catching up.)19

(Peter walks up and smiles)20

Kaleigh: Oh, hello (smiles) I saw you back there, and I figured you’d be able to catch up. Your legs are a lot longer than mine.21

(Both smile)22

Narrator: And so started the happiest year of my life, and a walk I would always remember.23

(Later on in the same walk)25

Peter: There’s my old school. Hey…why didn’t you go there?26

Kaleigh: I did, but I left in grade two because my mom didn’t like the teacher.27

(Characters continue walking, talking, and smiling, but without audio to allow for the narrator to talk again.)28

Narrator: I felt so comfortable talking to him, and I started feeling something for him, I just didn’t know what yet.29

(Audio returns, girl looks down street)30

Kaleigh: This is my street.31

Peter: Oh okay, see ya then.32

Kaleigh: Bye33

(Cut to frontal shot of Kaleigh walking, smiling, slightly blushing)34

Kaleigh: (rolling eyes) What are you talking about? HE started walking with ME.45

Sarah: So? I was yelling “OOOOOH” after you guys the whole time.46

Kaleigh: (confused and shocked look) Really? Then it’s a good thing we didn’t hear you.47

Sarah: You SO like him.48

Kaleigh: (slight smile) Uh…no I don’t. But anyway, I have to go, so I’ll talk to you later.49

Sarah: (mocking) Okay, BYE!50

Narrator: I hung up the phone not really knowing what to think.51

(Kaleigh hangs up the phone slowly, with a confused look on her face)52

Each one has Kaleigh smiling as she hears his footsteps, and when he catches up, she looks at him with more of a composed look on her face.)61

Kaleigh: Hello (sing-song like, with smile)67

Kaleigh: Is it? Sarah, help me stall!100

Sarah: Um…Okay…Let’s stop here and I’ll pretend I’m telling you something…101

Kaleigh: Okay, you keep watching him.102

Sarah: (mouthing and doing hand gestures, trying to hide that she’s looking directly at Peter) He’s moving pretty fast (smiles).103

Kaleigh smiles and nods.104

Sarah: (as Peter is directly behind Kaleigh) So, I’ll just talk to you about that later.105

Narrator: One day, after months of walking home with him, and liking him more and more each time, I decided to be bold…and reach for his hand as we were walking home.111

(Kaleigh has really nervous look on her face…slowly tries to move her hand closer to his, but Peter is not paying attention to his hand, so he can’t tell…Cut to close up of Kaleigh actually accomplishing it.)112

And to my surprise, and utter delight…He didn’t pull it away.113

(Close up of Peter’s face, surprised at first, but then smiling. Cut to a behind shot of them walking holding hands)114

From then on, walking home with him was never again just by a chance that I tried to control. We always had someone to walk home with, and for me, that was all I could ever ask for.115

SUPER CORNY MONTAGE117

(Done with cross fades, to happy music)118

Kaleigh walks up the school stairs really tired, but she turns through the door, sees Peter hanging out with some mutual friends, and they wave to each other, and she walks to her locker smiling.119

Kaleigh is hanging out with Peter and some other friends, and she leans on her locker, and Peter comes up and leans on the locker next to her, smiling, and sliding down to be her height.120

Kaleigh and Peter are walking outside, and he lends her his hat (Make it obvious it’s cold out).121

Group sitting in Key City Theatre seats, Peter sitting behind Kaleigh. Kaleigh curls up into the seat like she’s going to fall asleep, and Peter pokes her. (Shot of Kaleigh head on as she opens her eyes from being poked, then shot of Peter smiling, and back to Kaleigh smiling too).122

Kaleigh gives Peter a Christmas card, and he gives her a hug, catching her off-guard (from the side), so she smiles, but cannot return the hug.123

Kaleigh and Peter sitting together in the movie theatre, waiting for it to start, and they compare the sizes of their hands.124

Finish montage off with one more clip of Kaleigh and Peter walking home.125

Author notes

This was for my film class midterm. We had to write a screenplay and direct it and edit it ourselves. This is kind of in between how I actually wrote it and how it actually turned out. I had to switch some scenes around cuz my lead actress cut her hair in the middle of the project, so I adjusted those accordingly, but some of the lines got changed in filming just cuz the actors kinda said them differently, but I kept those the way I had intended.

It's the true story of a crush I have. Every single thing in this story is true (even the pathetic ways 'Sarah' helped me out...) except the scene where I 'reach for his hand'. The reason I had to add in a fictional scene was because I still like him, so there is no ending...so I had to have some ending to it. The montage all actually happened, and they were all just simple things, but they make me smile to remember.

Anyway, enjoy

I always wanted a voice-over because I felt voiceover would help us care about the character. But I would like more if you used it so that it would help expand the script.
