(a) I don't really have a "favorite" author, but I do enjoy Jack London. But I enjoy a pretty broad range.1
( b ) Well, it's not a band, but my favorite singer is Keith Urban.2
(c) I like writing stories with odd mystery kinds of plots. I also do some romance, although I hate happy, perfect, fairy-tale endings.3
(d) Umm... I don't really have a piece that "sums me up", but one of my favorites is "Ashes of Love". It's an odd story. People seem to either really like or really hate it. 4

ooh, lemmethink... *jeapordy music begins playing*... ... ... *author empties a magazine of 9 mm ammo into the speaker.* *music stops*... alright, i do want a happy ending, but here's the twist. the happy ending should BE the twist. you know how some movies end with a sudden twist, like the main character gets hit by a car, without any warning, and then the credits roll? that's how the happy ending should hit me. i want a completely unexpected happy ending to a story that you wouldn't expect one from. oh, and, by the way, your main character is an australian gangster. i'm leaving this pretty open, but i do want the surprise happy ending. be creative!

Wow, this'll be a challenge, at least for me. But, can I have an American gangster? I know close to nothing about Australians.
Anyway, thanks so much for the interesting prompt.
