Lilia stared at the computer screen. The red words of the forum board jumped out at her, haunting her. The time of post was an hour ago - and the poster, Abyssal Girl, was already offline. But the thread continued on...4

'Abyss?'5

She wondered too.6

'Don't post one-word posts.7

Anyway, I don't know what you mean, Abyssal.'8

'LOL dis is funny'9

Chatspeak. Lilia winced, skipping the rest of the poster's badly spelt text.10

'Maybe bring a flashlight next time ;D'11

'I think I can what you mean, Abyssal Girl. It's lonely, isn't it?'12

She blinked and reread the entire post again. What did this poster mean, 'lonely'? An abyss, a bottomless pit of darkness... Lilia was sure she would feel scared over being lonely but...13

If a person kept falling and falling endlessly - without any company - maybe... Maybe she would feel lonely too.14

'You get what she meant, huh? What did she mean?'15

'It's the Abyss. If you know it, you'll know it for sure...'16

Lilia studied the post for a second time, but nothing jumped at her other than how the poster had capitalized the first letter of Abyss. As if...17

'That's what I'm saying!! I don't!! Tell me what it is!!'18

She scrolled past the mini argument between Tallest and BlueChick - but Abyssal Girl had not replied to anyone since her very first post. Lilia sighed as she clicked a button, subscribing herself to the thread so that she would be notified if anyone made a new reply.19

She was curious but she didn't know why. The Abyss gave her a feeling of foreboding - but she wanted to know more. She wanted to learn more.20

Lilia shut the computer down and switched the power off. She lay in bed, eyes opened and awake - and when she dreamt, she dreamt of falling and falling without end.
