Starthorn wasn't her real name, but that was ok. Because of the natural secrecy of the little settlement, people had the option to give themselves names. Starthorn wasn't an unusual name. TALON had an unusual name. But then, he chose it when Luna took him in, so she supposed it was ok. Having two wolves, now THAT was unusual.1

Starthorn smiled as she walked home. She liked being special. Sabor and Sabora made her special. She was the only one she'd ever heard of who had two wolves follow her. She smiled again. She was lucky was what she was. If Luna hadn't brought Saro and his pack to this side of Sarata, Starthorn wouldn't have them. Her smile faded as she approached the gates to the settlment. They were locked. Of course they were. Why wouldn't they be? This was a SECRET settlement, and with good reason given the people Lady Saytre brought back to it.2

Lady Saytre. People outside Midnight Woods thought her to be a terror. She was in her own way, but she was one of Starthorn's favorite people in the world. Ever since the unrest in the city's to the west, she had begun bringing people back to the settlement. Starthorn grew up here, so she only knew rumors about what was going on out there. There used to be a kingdom in the east, but the west had lost contact when the new council came to power. 3

Sabor gave a quick bark and Starthorn hurried over. FINALLY. It took her YEARS to fix this wall so she could get out, but it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find at night, but hey, that's the way she made it. 4

She opened the tiny door and slipped through, Sabor and Sabora behind her. She squeezed through but suddenly stopped and held her breath. There was someone at the end of her short tunnel, and she had a feeling they wouldn't be happy when she came out. She waited there, her heart pounding in her ears. They knew she was there, and she had to come out sooner or later. She took a deep breath, like she was about to dive into a pool. What was the worst that could happen?
