Hi boys and girls. I see some of you have gone...for good! Others tell me the dog ate their homework! But some of you...have shown up! YOU are the ones who will succeed. Persistence is the KEY!1
Now...did you ever find yourselves on the wrong side of the right word? Or on the right side of the wrong word? Check these out and make sure...you're on the right side of the mirror:2

Remember, for the most part, NO TWO WORDS IN THE LANGUAGE HAVE THE IDENTICAL MEANING!...AND SOME...ARE SIMPLY INCORRECT!40
And if the prefix "IN" means NOT...how do you explain the words:41
Flamable and INFLAMABLE...and Valuable and INVALUABLE?
AND...CAN YOU DEFINE ALL THESE WORDS...DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM?42
Have fun boys and girls.... Remember: Every class is an English class!43

Gary, what happened to line 41? It's DRIVING ME UP A WALL!!
-
Nice!
Funny! -
You've made me laugh with all the "every says"! Since I don't live in an English-speaking country I haven't heard as many of these as you, but I do hear some occasionally. I'm guilty of a couple of these myself! (Such as "lay" instead of "lie".) I've even heard people say "unvaluable". And I know someone who says "I can't phantom...." instead of "I can't fathom..." =D
Great job! And thanks for the lesson, English teacher.

-
wonderful!
You sound like my english teacher. She goes on and on speaking...
This was cool -
Very witty. I don't suppose you could tell me the difference between a method and a methodology...
I've also written a piece set in a classroom, but it's rather different to this.
-
:-)
You're speaking to my heart, GA!! I like this one, too, and great job... again!

-
very entertaining, i think i have misspoken a few of those same words at some point

-
I always say Dramastic when I mean Dramatic and Drastic.lol. so now I say Dramastic all of the time, and sinse I said it so much everyone knows what I mean.lol.
Freedom. -
Hmmmm. I was going to make a note about consciously choosing to break the rules for the sake of art, but then I remembered that 99% of the people who break the rules aren't aware they're doing it anyway.
-
Hehe!
That was a lot more fun to read than it should have been
I think i'll go through it again. Advice noted Gary!

Yrs.
Azaradelle.

Bravo Gary that was educational yet fun, I enjoyed it, I feel quiet happy I never made the mistakes that you listed
well done!
-
Avuncular! I've always been partial to that word. If you can find one for "aunt-like" you'll get ten brownie points!
Your word lists are helpful, I hope writers check by here when they are unsure of their vocabulary.

What is your opinion on SHONE and SHINED? Is shined transitive? (Am I saying what I'm meaning here? Understand that my knowledge of grammar is self taught mainly from context) Like so: 'He shined the flashlight on the wall.' as opposed to 'the flashlight shone.' Is said example similar to your hung/hanged or lay/lie?
As you can see, I'm taking notes and asking questions, like a good student.
Oh, and I couldn't find 'Complectioned' in my dictionary. I did, however, find 'complexioned.' Coincidence?

-
As I read the beginning of the list, I felt somewhat happy that I didn't mistake those words. Yet as I read further down - I think I need to make sure that I know the meaning of those words.
Thanks sensei (teacher in Japanese

"Ininquitable?" I know "Inequitable." What I actively dislike is "definately" I see it all the time, it can't be a typo, as the "a" is on the second row, right next to the 'caps lock' key. The word should be "definitely" The "i" is top row, just under number 8. Go get 'em Gary! I'm enjoying this. How about you include the meanings of the word, or ask for queries/contributions?

-
Cool. This is amazing what you said. Did u learn that in English?
-
I say "apparently" when I mean "supposedly"! It drives people crazy! Also, I do "enthused" when I meant "enthusiastic", "cement" when I meant "concrete", "sympathy" when I meant "empathy", and, of course, "criteria" instead of "criterion" - you can't be in the International Baccalaureate program and NOT mess that one up at LEAST once.
And, no, I haven't given up on your endless *ahem* INVALUABLE lessons...I've just been a little busy lately. I'll get right on it tomorrow!
--Viola
PS. Don't you mean "avuncUlarly"? -
-
Avuncularly...
Absolutely.... You see, this is what happens when an "l" gets ahead of itself...specifically ahead of a "u." But...it didn't get ahead of YOU!
Good catch. My keyboard shall be appropriately reprimanded.
