Conception - 12 Months

Two cells meet and merge
for genes to intertwine
Vital organs near the verge
of becoming whole, healthy, and fine1

Brain, lungs, and heart
all steadily develop
There becomes a rhythmic art
slowly bringing the pace up2

This is but the beginning
of an incredible new lifetime
There is much frowning and grinning
to come with a reason and a rhyme3

Now here’s the testing
and a bit of pullin’ and pushin’
For comfort baby goes questing
looking for that cozy cushion4

With sleeping patterns all askew
baby can be an erratic little one
Meddlesome but adorable too
and always looking for lots of fun5

Now the infantile stage draws to a close
and the baby smiles proudly
Because a friend now happily bestows
to baby a cuddly sloth that sleeps soundly
