Knight of the Tigress of Chapter 10 (part 1)

“KITT, we are losing her!”1

Christy screamed in his ears, KITT gave more juice to the brakes. The van finally stopped before reaching the curve. Michael pressed on his brakes and KITT came to a full stop.2

He opened his door. “Stay in here!” He jumped out and ran over to the van. Jamie was kicking the door. He grabbed the handle and yanked the door opened.3

“Come on, sweetheart!” He watched the silver box lit up.4

Jamie stepped out of the van. He grabbed her hand as they ran to KITT. When the van exploded and knocked them both to the ground. KITT raced over to cover them from the falling debris.5

The van continued to explode as the fire-trucks’ sirens were heard in the distance.6

Jamie sat on the hard bed in the ER’s examining room. The white walls and fluorescent lighting made her eyes ache. She held her left arm as the pain grew worse. Dr. Bhatt walked in and studied her chart. She looked into his deep brown eyes.8

Dr. Bhatt wore his white lab coat over his street clothes as his dark hair shined in the light. “You took in a nasty shock. Your E.A. drugs are out of whack,” he said with a hint of an India accent.9

She looked down at her clothes to see dirt and tears in her blue jeans and her light blue sweatshirt. “You’re using my terms now?”10

Dr. Bhatt sat down on the stool and rolled to her. “You need rest and a good dose of pain killers.”11

“I can’t rest. There is too much that I have to do.” Her face turned red.12

He got up from the black stool. “Jamie, you pay me to look out for your care. I can’t do my job unless you are willing to do what I say.”13

She turned away from him to stare at the wall. “What about boosting these E.A. drugs?”14

“No. You are too stressed out for that and your body could go into shock. What you need is rest. Your body can’t handle all that stress.”15

“Why don’t you tell that cancer to leave my aunt alone?!” She jumped off the bed. “Tell the people to leave me alone and stop trying to kill me that would be nice too.” She grabbed her arm a bit tighter.16

“I’m going to tell Mr. Miles that you need about a six hour period of rest before you can work again.”17

Jamie turned around to face Dr. Bhatt. “Please, no shot.”18

“I’ve sent the pills to the Foundation headquarters.” He walked over to her and placed her hand on her shoulder. “Please, get some rest or the next stop you be in FLAG’s Clinic with an IV.”19

She shook her head. “I understand, doc.”20

“I’m going to release you.” He handed her some papers. “Get some rest and soon.”21

Jamie took the papers and rolled them up. “Thanks, doc.” She walked out of the ER’s examining room and went to the lobby.22

She entered the lobby that was full of people. Their eyes stared at her, which gave her tingles that ran down her spine. The sounds of whispering filled her ears as Jamie walked faster. She watched the people turned away from her and by the elevator stood an older man.23

“Hey, lady, what happened did you escape from a fire?” He yelled.24

Jamie turned her head to see Michael coming. Then she stared at the man who was laughing at her. Jamie’s face turned to stone. “As matter of fact, I did! A van exploded. So why don’t you go back to charm school?” She stared at him.25

The man stopped laughing and walked away.26

She walked over to the elevator as a hand grabbed her left arm. “Ouch!”27

She turned around to see Michael. His black leather jacket was dirty as was his blue shirt and his jeans.28

Michael stepped back. “I am sorry. I didn’t…”29

Jamie turned away. “It is all right. I’m on my way to see my family.”30

He tapped on her right shoulder. “What happened to ‘I am a fast healer’?”31

She pushed the button for the elevator. “The pain was delayed.” The elevator’s doors opened as Jamie entered and Michael followed her. “I can’t get rid of you.” She held her left arm again.32

“Devon’s orders are for you and Chloe to return to the Foundation headquarters.” Michael watched her lean on the wall. “What floor?”33

“The seventh floor, please. I need to see my family.”34

Michael stepped over to her and noticed the tears that ran down her cheeks. He was about to put her arms around her when she moved away from him.35

“Please, don’t.”36

He raised his arms in the air. “You are an iceberg at times!”37

Jamie turned around to stare into his eyes. “Now, listen! I am in a lot of pain here. If you would gave me a chance to explain. My nerves are in overdrive and a simply touch can cause me more pain.”38

Michael stood there for a few seconds. “I didn’t know.”39

She let out a huge sigh. “I know that you care. I have a lot on my plate.”40

The elevator’s doors opened and they walked out. Jamie stopped for a moment, as the sounds of people crying and moaning, with machines beeping that over took her ears. Michael waited for her to catch her breath. They headed to the waiting room. Christy came racing the down the hallway towards her.41

She watched her sister’s long red hair bouncing as Christy was wearing a new set of fresh clothes. “Ladybug, stop running down the hallway,” Jamie said as she walked.42

Christy grabbed Jamie and gave her a hug. Sharp tingles run up Jamie’s arms that entered her chest. Michael watched Jamie’s face turned red with pain.43

“Christy, where is my hug? I help too,” Michael said.44

Christy let go with her sister and gave him a quick hug.45

“Where is everyone?” Jamie asked.46

“They are in the waiting room with Uncle Travis.” Christy turned around to Michael. “May I have a minute alone with my sister?”47

Michael tapped Jamie’s shoulder. “I will go call Devon.” He walked away.48

“What is it, Ladybug?”49

“Why did you save me after the way I treated you?” She lowered her head.50

Jamie took her right hand and lifted her sister’s head. “Because you are my sister; I knew that you were just angry, and you needed to blow off some stream.”51

“That was the answer I knew that you were going to say.”52

“The most important fact, Ladybug, that I love you. Family is the most important thing that we have. You are stuck with me!” Jamie smiled at her.53

“I love you too, sis!”54

Jamie and Christy walked down to the waiting room. Kevin stood up and wore a new shirt with his arm in a sling. Dark bags under his brown eyes as his hair needed to be comb again. He walked over to Jamie.55

He stuck out his hand to her. “You look like that you have fallen off a horse?” 56

“So do you.” She giggled. “Have you seen Grand anywhere?” Jamie asked.57

“No, sis; I don’t see your horse anywhere in site. I do see that my sisters are speaking to each other.”58

“We sure are!” Christy yelled and patted Jamie on the back.59

“Ouch! Christy, please take it easy on me.”60

“Sorry.” Christy said.61

“Just take it easy on her,” Kevin said as he rubbed Christy’s hair.62

Trish walked over to them in her winkled clothes that she had slept in the night before. She hugged Christy. “I’m glad that you are all right. I was so scared.”63

“It is over. How is Aunt Sara doing?” Jamie asked.64

“She would like to see us. But Christy has to stay here; you know those rules,” Trish said.65

“We don’t want to leave her alone out here,” Kevin said as his arm was around Christy.66

“I will see if Michael will stay with her.” Jamie turned away and went to find Michael.67

He was at the payphone as he started to walk away. “What is up?”68

Jamie stood there and amazed that he was calm. “Can you stay with Christy, while the rest of us speak to Aunt Sara?”69

“Sure. I can do that.” He was about to tap her shoulder as she squirmed.70

They walked back to the waiting room.71

“Did you talk with Chloe? Jamie asked.72

“Bonnie did. Chloe is packing your suitcase as we speak.”73

Christy raced over to them. “Michael, do you know how to play ‘UNO’?”74

“I sure do.” He turned around to them. “Don’t worry she is in good hands.”75
