Knight of the Tigress of Chapter 8

Jamie found herself at the hospital where all her darkest moments became reality. She had quit pacing the halls; next, she slipped away from her family, and entered the bathroom, as the first set of the horrible moments began to flash the images before her. 1

~
Jamie sat in the ER waiting room and held her baby sister Christy in her lap with her brother Kevin sat next to her. The ER's walls painted white, as the hard seats had made her legs fall asleep. 2

“Sissy, when can I see mommy?” Christy asked. 3

“I don't know, ladybug. The doctors are trying to fix mom's scrapes.” 4

“We have to sit here and wait?” Kevin asked. 5

Friends and neighbors started to pour in from the rural ranching community. Some of them brought food for them, as others sat with Kevin and Christy while Jamie made her phone calls. 6

Jamie returned to the waiting room when the ER doctors walked out all covered in blood, as the nurses' faces turned pale. She ran over to her little sister and picked up her; held her sister very close to her because she knew as the doctor came. 7

“I am so sorry… Your father died on the scene,” said the doctor as Kevin rose from his chair and grabbed her hand. “The car accident killed him instantly. Your mother put up a really good fight but her heart just gave out… We tried everything to save her.” 8

“Mommy!” Christy yelled as she started to punch Jamie's chest and shoulders. 9

“I want to see mommy!”
“Ladybug, mom is gone,” Jamie whispered. “I will always be here.” 10

~
Jamie opened her eyes to return to the present, to face another dark moment, as her Aunt Sara was fighting for her life in the cancer ward. She turned on the faucet with the cool water ran over her hands, she began to splash the water on her face. Then she turned off the faucet and walked out of the restroom. 11

In the waiting room sat the rest of her family; her cousin Trish, her brother Kevin, and her younger sister, Christy; and they all waited in the chairs for any news about Trish's mother. 12

She turned her head to look down the quiet hallway as her knight blood started to tingle. She walked to her Aunt Sara's room; outside of the room was her chart. Jamie checked to see if anyone was around, then she took her fingers to flip through the pages and began to scan the chart. 13

“Time to do my rounds,” yelled one of the nurses. 14

Jamie closed the chart and walked into Aunt Sara's room. She had so many IV's hook up into her. Two were in each of her arms and one into her chest as wires attached to her chest to read her vital signs. 15

“You can't be in here,” the nurse said. 16

“I am her niece.” 17

“It's all right, I want her in here,” Aunt Sara said. 18

“How are you feeling?” the nurse asked as she walked over to her. 19

“My pain medicine isn’t working, and I need some more.” Sara grabbed her hand. 20

“I gave you your last pain medicine about three hours ago. I can't give you another dose.”
21

Jamie's blood began to boil. “Look, call the doctor, or I will.” She walked over to Aunt Sara. 22

“I will see what the doctor says.” The nurse let go of her hand and left the room. 23

“Jamie, sit with me.”
She pulled up a chair, then sat down and held her aunt’s hand. “My sweet child, you are becoming like a mother hen, just like your mother.” 24

“I miss her, auntie.” Jamie stared into her soft brown eyes.
25

“I know child, I miss her too. There is one thing, I regret.” Aunt Sara squeezed her hand. 26

“What?” Aunt Sara gave out a sigh as she coughed. “Sending you to your Uncle Wilton to get you away from Danny,” she said and then coughed again. 27

“You did the right thing. Danny wanted to marry me, and I didn't know how to say no because I was so confused.” Jamie started to pull away from her as Aunt Sara held tight to her; then she stopped. 28

“What about
Europe?” Aunt Sara asked.
29

“I got into some trouble, and I got out of it. There were some people that noticed how I conducted myself and offered me a job.” 30

Aunt Sara stared into her eyes. “What kind of job for a girl in her early twenties?”   31

Jamie glazed dropped to the bed. “I became a security agent.”
32

“Going to school in Europe was a cover?” She looked into her aunt’s eyes. 33

“No. I did go to college.”
“Just like your mother.” Aunt Sara patted on her hand. 34

“Do you know anything about my biological father?” 35

“Your mother and your step-father kept that information to themselves. Then your Uncle Wilton died; well that secret is gone.” 36

Jamie squeezed her hand as the nurse walked in. 37

“The doctor has changed your pain medicine Sara; this one will make you sleepy.”

“Good, the pain is very bad.” 38

The nurse walked over and gave her a shot in the arm. Then the nurse left the room as Uncle Travis returned.
39

“How is she doing?” He asked. 40

“She just got some new pain medicine.” 41

“You and the nurse had a run in.” 42

“You can say that,” Jamie giggled. “I'll let you sit with her.” 43

Jamie rose from the chair, gave her uncle a hug, and walked out of the room. She returned to the waiting room as the row of red heads were huddled together. Trish opened her deep brown eyes and lifted up her arm towards Jamie. 44

“How could this happen? The treatment was working…” Trish said for the first time in a long while. 45

Jamie walked over to her to take her hand and stroke her strawberry hair.
“I don't know. Tomorrow, I'm going to find out.” 46

“What if she dies, tonight from that cancer? What then?” 47

Jamie arose from her seat to kneel down in front of Trish to grab her hands. “I will do what I can, for Aunt Sara, and she is a fighter…” 48

A loud bang echoed in the waiting room as the fuming fifteen year old stood there as her green eyes filled with panic. Jamie was amazed with Christy's appearance at that age; as she looked into a mirror back into time. 49

Her sister had a perfect face with thick red hair, a lean figure, and a strong body ready for life.
Her sister charged at Jamie, she took a step back as Kevin grabbed both of Christy's arms to pin them behind her back. Jamie watched her brother who was almost six-foot tall wrestle with Christy. She sat down next to Trish as her cousin gave a slight squeeze from her hand. Christy wanted a fight; and Jamie was not in the mood to give her one. 50

“Who do you think you are coming in like a hero? You're nothing!” Christy yelled. 51

Jamie just stared at her little sister. “You need to calm down, people are trying to sleep.”
52

“No! I want you to leave and take your money too.” Christy broke free from Kevin. 53

“We don't need you!”
54

He turned Christy to face her and grabbed her arms again. “Christy, Jamie is our sister, and she is a part of this family. You will not talk to her like that!” 55

Christy pulled away from him, sat down in her chair and folded her arms across her chest. Jamie let out a huge sigh and then whispered, “Thank you.” He nodded his head and sat down next to Christy; put his arms around her as she cried. 56

Christy's has her issues that must be dealt with, but will she understand that fate had a different course for me. Least, I am here for this one. Christy is so angry the poor kid has been through a lot.
57

Jamie and her family sat in the rigid chairs to wait. She closed her eyes and held her cousin's hand in the sterile waiting room with all different kinds of beeps that filled her ears. 58

“Jamie, wake up,” Trish said as she shook her. She opened her eyes to see the fear on Trish's face. 59

“What is going on?”
“Christy is gone. We have been looking for her for about ten minutes.” 60

Jamie sat up. “When is the last time that you saw her?” 61

“She was going to the snack machines by the stairs.” 62

Jamie rose from the chair and walked very quickly to the stairs as Trish followed her. Once they reached the snack area as tiny drops of blood led to the exit door. 63

“Stay here,” Jamie said.
She took short quick steps to the heavy steel door, as the trail of blood became a huge puddle. 64

“Help me,” cried a voice. 65

Jamie kicked opened the door; there laid Kevin on the floor with his hand covering his right shoulder as the blood poured out of his arm. 66

“Kev!” Jamie kneeled down beside him. “What happened?” 67

“Some woman took her! I tried to stop her, and then she stabbed me as Christy screamed.” 68

“Stay with me. Trish!” 69

Trish ran in with a nurse into the staircase. 70

“What happened?” the nurse asked. 71

“He was stabbed and some woman took my little sister.” Jamie looked at her brother. “Which way did they go?” 72

“Down the stairs,” he whispered. 73

“This doesn't look good.” The nurse pressed down on the wound. She turned her head. “I need a doctor, now!” 74

Jamie looked up to see Michael standing at the nurses' station. “Trish!” 75

“What!” 76

“You see that tall man in the black leather jacket.” 77

“This is no time for one of your dates,” Trish snapped. 78

“Funny! Tell him what happened, and that I went down the stairs to find Christy.” 79

“Get a doctor in here, too!” yelled the nurse.
80

Jamie raced down the staircase to find Christy as more nurses rushed into the staircase to help Kevin.

'The ER's walls painted white, as the hard seats had made her legs fall asleep.' Instead of 'as' how about 'and' in para 2 line 2.

    Seperate para 10 and 34.

Action is moving right along. Missing smell, though.
