The Conception 2

When the raven’s feather falls, it darkens the clearest sky. It tumbles through levels of reality, scratching the surface of each one, until finally settling to the ground. When a raven’s feather falls, the whole world hushes, in respect, or perhaps remembrance, of when once it was part of the great wing, that sailed above. 3

No one has yet discovered the association of this natural occurrence with the supernatural world, but it is whispered from darkened mind, to darkened mind, that as the raven feather falls.. The unseen, the forgotten, rise once more. And, it is important to note, though often scoffed at as a fairy tale, the one enduring prophecy in the realm of shadows, is that when that raven’s feather falls, illuminated by a full moon, the star-child shall be conceived. 4

The echo of his footsteps could be heard through the dark alley way, as he ran without direction. He was not fleeing, or racing towards something, he was running because he could not stop. He could feel his veins pulsating, stretching and expanding, then shrinking back to size, only to spread once more. It was the strangest feeling he had ever experienced. But everything was different. 5

The touch of the air brushing along his skin as he ran verged on erotic, as the sensation of it was magnified. The sound of his heartbeat was deafening as it raged within his chest, slamming out a rhythm of fury and elation, mingling together to create upside down euphoria. And the stars…. Despite the clouds in the sky, the light from the stars singed his eyes, even when he squeezed them shut. His senses were charged with an electrical boost that seemed to bring his surroundings into a garish symphony of torture and pleasure. As he emerged from the alley, he suddenly knew where he was going. 6

She sat abruptly up in bed, even before she heard the doorknob turning, she knew he was there. With widened eyes she watched as he stumbled into the room. She had never known him to indulge in alcohol or drugs, so his obvious altered state startled her. She shrank back some as he drew closer, pulling the covers up around her shoulders. “Alesandro..?” She whispered tentatively. 7

The smile that tugged at his trembling lips was almost as disturbing as the eerie amber glow that had begun in the core of his obsidian eyes. Stop it, she ordered herself. This is your husband. He has come home, to be with you. Be tender now. 8

Reluctantly she spread her arms to him, allowing the covers to fall. As they slid lazily from her milky skin, he sighed, the first full breath he had taken in some time. She was peace to him, and despite the wildness of his body, he somehow felt calmer. 9

As he came to kneel on the bed beside her, he could sense the fear within her. It emanated from her body in sharp-edged waves. He winced at the feeling. Gently she lifted her fingertips to his brow, smoothing it lovingly as she battled with the sense that something was very wrong. 10

“..Alysabette..” He mumbled, nuzzling his lips through her mahogany curls, craving her warmth. As his skin grazed hers, she shivered beneath the ice of it. As she was to question it, he laid his hand to her lips, and with his other, pushed her rather firmly against the bed. 11

Her confusion was evident as the eyes that stared up at him shifted between violets and greys, shades that continually intertwined to create the very first reason he had fallen for her. 12

“..shh..” He murmured. “..it’s fine, everything’s fine..” He let his hand travel from her lips, to softly stroke the slope of her neck, fascinated by the waves of energy he could feel coming from her, the snippets of thought he could hear.. 13

As his lips lowered to meet hers, in the softest of kisses, all of her fear was abandoned. She was catapulted into an unparalleled realm of pleasure, where just the touch of his tongue, the tips of his fingers, his flesh against hers, was overwhelming. It was wild, unrestrained passion, that passed between them. It was the guttural growls of night-stalking creatures that escaped their lips, as if they were steadily drawing closer to their prey. 14

It was phenomenal.. But.. She opened her eyes briefly amidst the experience, and looked up into that eerie glow, as it burned brighter.. 15

..it was not Alesandro. 16

“..what have you done..?” She whispered breathlessly as he collapsed against her. He offered no response, only gingerly twirled a tendril of her hair around his finger, relishing the experience. She bit into her bottom lip, holding back her desire to question him further. They’d only been married a short time. She was quite certain a wife was supposed to trust her husband.. Tenderly she trailed her fingers through his dark hair, and pressed his cheek against her, hoping to feel some sign of the man she had known. 17

…but he was just so cold… 18
