Adjustment

It makes me sad when you’re like this. Yesterday, a week ago, a month ago, too long ago I took comfort in the conversations we had. Now when we talk, it’s strained, short, and full of bad feelings. Some dark, gloomy cloud seems to hang above us when we’re together. So we stay apart. But something aches, perhaps not in my heart, but certainly in my mind. A certain nostalgic longing for the peace and comfort that we had occasionally given each other. 1

Recently it’s been all about you. We’ve all got our problems, but you talk like you’ve got them all. A while ago we were all awesomely non-cliché, but you’ve gotten a classic case of the teenage potty-mouth, with verbal recklessness to match. This is all so unfortunate, and what terrible timing you’ve got. We were so close to getting closer, but you decided that you needed to adjust your attitude. Well, you’ve adjusted it all right. But you turned the dial the wrong way. 2

Short and sweet. You've managed to pack a lot of emotion into as little words as possible - an economic use of expression. Well done!
