Genie dear, I beseech thee,
Won't you grant my wish for me?
It is not much that I would ask,
I seek not gold or pearls from sea,
Won't you please take up this task?1
It's not the winning lottery number,
No, what I want is peaceful slumber.
I wish so badly for some rest,
I have no need for singing cucumber.
Oh genie, do what you do best!2
Lead me to a soft, warm bed,
There to rest my wretched head.
Let none disturb me with their screams
Don't wake me even to be fed.
Leave me to my longed-for dreams.
Author notes
I'm not much of a poet, and this probably isn't really the sort of thing this contest was for, but the wish is heartfelt, and the words just came to me.

Hum, a strange poem for sure. I could go for more sleep, I'm no good running on four hours. I flowed decently (compared to mine it flowed wonderfully). Good luck in the contest.

I wish for more sleep always. Thanks so much for entering and your wish is just the thing I was looking for. I didn't ask for just prose, poetry works too.
Thanks again for entering and good luck in the contest.

Hummmm... now what do you dream about that has you so longing to get back to them? I like the flow to this and the wording, I am not to sure if the first stanza flows that well but the others fit perfectly and I didn't think you would wish for that I thought it would be a woman who looked like a model some sort of fancy car or love or something - but sleep? didn't see that one coming well done! and good luck in the contest babes!!
