As she was opening the door her boss came up to her,"I think this is the case for you." 1
"Ah, well good morning to you too John." She smiled after completing her sentence as if to say, thanks for the greeting. 2
"This is your chance to get a promotion and I want you to take it." Sheryl rolled her eyes and took the papers on the case from his hands. 3
"Believe me, I won't pass up a chance." She walked into her office and set the papers on her desk. She caught glance of her clock, six. Sheryl took a deep breath, this was going to be a long day. Hearing the clock tick with every second she started flipping through the papers and reading what happened. 4
"John," She was walking quickly down the hall and John just kept walking down too as if to not hear her calling his name,"John listen to me."5
"What?" He said it in an annoyed voice.6
"Look at this," she opened up the file and took out a certain paper that she had doggy eared. "This little boy died in the same spot Jean did."7
"So, whats your point?" Acting like he had totall faith that she was mentally insane. 8
"So did another person last week and the week before that. At first, yeah, you could say I'm crazy. Although now, I know I'm not because this is just to weird." 9
"It could just be a really bad place to drive, so people die in accidents all the time there."10
"These people didn't die in car crashes."11
"Look," He was trying to find a paper stating how the little boy had died. He pulled out what he thought would prove his idea. Looking it through, his eyes started to describe some fear. "When I read this this morning it said he died in a car crash and now it says he got shot." 12
Sheryl reached into her brief case and brought to his attention three other cases where people died in the same spot. "This man was taking a walk, so his wife had said, when she later got a call that he was found dead on Linden Street; this teenager had runaway from home and fell asleep there to be found the next morning to cold to be alive in the middle of July." She looked into his now bewildered eyes. 13
"I don't remember reading these cases," He looked at the papers. 14
"That's because you do this all day long and it just doesn't occur to you, but to me Linden Street has played a special part in my mind." She let her eyes wonder over the papers like she was trying to figure out the meaning of all this. 15
"I know you loved Jean very much, but what does this have to do with it." 16
"I've been having dreams where I wake up from a nightmare and Jeans there, and everytime he dies, but not always the same way. Once he was just cold, once he just died, once he was shot...these cases are played in my head at night only its him instead of the people."17
"What do you think it means?" John was starting to get sucked in as his curiosity was struck.18
"I don't know, I really don't know." 19
