The only thing he was certain of was the pain that seemed to start somewhere around his middle, and branch out to every corner of his body. Trying to move, Craig moaned and decided that staying in a rather uncomfortable position and pain was preferable to the immense agony he just experienced.1
Slowly opening his eyes, he looked around a dimly lit room, his sight not really focusing on anything in particular. He didn’t really mind, since the only thing he could make out were blurry shadows of things that may or may not be people. 2
His eyes twitched to the side as a small tone sounded, and then flicked back to one of the blurry shadows as it moved. A man he didn’t recognized looked down at him, then to something by his head, writing a few things down before looking back a Craig with what could best be described as a practiced smile. 3
“How are you feeling?” 4
Craig blinked at the question, not really understanding it. He was on a bed while someone that looked like a doctor was standing over him. That much he was aware of, but he was having a hard time connecting it with the pain he was experiencing. 5
“Do you remember what happened?” the man asked gently.6
“Mmmm,” Craig said, trying to vocalize that he had no idea. His eyes drooped slightly, and when he opened them again, the man was gone. Glancing around the room as much as he could without moving, he realized that the blurry shadows had shifted slightly. 7
One of them moved again, but this time he recognized the outline of the person that stood over the bed. Then again, the man would be recognizable in any situation, regardless of how pumped full of drugs Craig was. 8
“What time?” Craig managed to croak just above whisper.9
“Just after eight at night,” Acheron said. 10
Craig’s brow lowered in slight confusion. It was night, and Dom wasn’t here. He realized that the Hunter was cold-hearted and callous at times, but Craig knew how much he valued his squires. Then, a terrible feeling passed through him. Maybe Dom wasn’t here because he couldn’t be here. “Dom?” 11
“He should be here soon,” Ash said, wondering himself why Dom was late. 12
Exhaling slowly in relief, Craig felt his eyes close again, but this time fought it. “What…happened?” he whispered.13
“Two eagles phased in,” Ash told him, deciding that a brief overview of the truth was needed. “Brought a few Daimons with them. You were stabbed, Dom’s got a shoulder to shoulder scar to add to his collection. Wendy, Aiden and Angie are fine.”14
“Angie?” he asked, confused.15
“She knows about the Hunter world,” Ash said. He took a step back from the bed. “Get some more rest.” Watching as Craig’s eyes closed again, he took a step back, then phased himself out of the hospital.16
Appearing in the shadows outside, Ash pulled out his cell phone and made a call. The phone closed as he saw the vehicle in question pull into the parking lot, and raised an eyebrow as three people got out.17
~~~~~~~~~~~~18
Her eyes clenched shut and breathing came in small gasps as Angie’s mind replayed the earlier events over and over for her. She felt the fear and bewilderment at what was happening, and tried not to gag at the sight of Dom as he killed two men. 19
That little part repeated itself, and she could see the anger on his face as he sprung into action, and the complete loss of control as he stabbed over and over again. That couldn’t be the same Dom that she’s been intimate with, the same man that seemed so shy at times that it was touching.20
Her eyes snapped open and she sat up quickly, looking beside her. Sure enough, the face that she had been attracted to for the past few years slept peacefully beside her… the same face that had been contorted by rage and bloodlust earlier that same day.21
“Dom?” she whispered, then getting no answer, tried louder. “Dom?” He moved slightly, but remained sleeping. “Dom!” she yelled.22
Jerking awake, he looked up at her. By the expression on her face, he could tell that some of the things she had been told were just now sinking in, and she probably had a million questions to ask. “Something wrong?”23
“Why did you bring me home that night?” she snapped.24
After the day’s events, he didn’t have the strength to be polite. “Because someone figured out my secret and threatened me if I didn’t,” he replied in the same tone.25
“’Scuse me?”26
Sighing in defeat, he shifted to he could look at her without turning. “Eros and Psyche,” he said slowly. “Well… I pissed them both off a long time ago, and as payback, I had to do the one thing that I wanted to avoid.”27
“Eros?” Angie asked. “As in Cupid?”28
“The one and only,” Dom said, moving to a sitting position. “Don’t buy the current myths of the man. He’s a mean son of a bitch.”29
“So, they threatened you to take me home?”30
Dom’s jaw dropped slightly at the venom in her voice. “No,” he said quickly, needing to head off any miscommunication. “Psyche basically told me that I had to pursue a relationship that I was finding any excuse to avoid. I’d already been hurt too much the first time around, and I didn’t want to feel it again, regardless how much I loved-“ He stopped quickly. “I’m sorry.”31
Angie stared, then smiled. “You loved me,” she teased.32
Laying back down, he moved an arm over his eyes. “I guess,” he said. “I don’t know. But, Psyche would.” Moving the arm, he looked at her. “Dark-Hunters are forbidden sexual relationships that last longer than one night. I couldn’t do that to you… give one night, then walk away. You deserve better.”33
“But you gave more than one night,” Angie said slowly, trying to take in what he was saying. 34
“And look what it brought you.” Sitting up again, he sighed. “It’s after dusk, and I want to see Craig.”35
“Can I come?” she asked in a small voice.36
“Are you sure?” Willing to give her all the opportunities needed to back out, he held his hands up like a scale. “This side, you visit, you stick around, and life as you know it changes forever. This side,” he said raising the other hand. “I drop you off at your place, say goodbye to you, and you return to your life.”37
“Stop being such a dick,” she said, swatting his hands down. “I’m not going to forget this, and I’m not going to forget or give up on you. Besides, from the amount of damage you seem to both dole out and receive, a massage therapist could make a killing in your world.” 38
“What?” he asked, confused. “Okay, whoa.” Shaking his head, he looked at her. “Are you sure?”39
“Not really, no,” she admitted. “But, hell, you’re far too good in bed for me to cut loose now.”40
Blushing slightly, Dom smiled. 41
“What else have you lied about?”42
Dom grimaced slightly, then ran a hand over his face. This was a bad time to be discussing it, but he really couldn’t think of a time when it would be a good idea. “I didn’t exactly lie,” he said. “I reworded a few things.”43
“Same difference.”44
“It is. I told you that I couldn’t handle bright light, which is true. Sun is also a killer for me… literally.” 45
“The meetings?”46
“Uh,” he hesitated. ”Okay. Those were lies. I did have to meet people, but they were mostly Daimons, and other assorted Demons.”47
“Do you have fangs?”
Dom jerked slightly, trying to trace the conversation to the point it was at now. “Yes.” 48
“Can I see them?” 49
Staring at Angie, he contemplated telling her no, but decided that she needed to know all that she could handle. Slowly, he gave her one of his ultra-rare smiles, one that showed his fangs. His lips closed as she leaned back with a gasp. 50
Staring, she really couldn’t believe that she hadn’t noticed the fangs before. “Uhhh,” she said, looking for something to say. 51
~~~~~~~~~~~~~52
Arion Petrakis, the Regis for the Gerakian Arcadian Patria stared at the man in front of him. “Who killed them?”53
“A Dark-Hunter,” Reginald Kalenta replied, putting a tremor in his voice that he didn’t feel. He had the dread all right, but it was more for himself and what would happen now that his best tools were gone. 54
“That’s what I thought you said. Why would this Dark-Hunter kill your sons?”55
Reginald shrugged. “Who knows why they do anything? Most are severely scarred from their deaths, and can barely contain their emotions on the best nights.” Before Arion could question that, he launched the second part of an impromptu plan. “Should I announce that this Hunter is on our lists?”56
“You want him dead?” 57
“He killed my sons, so yes.”58
“I don’t know-“59
“Of course.” Turning away, Reginald ground his teeth, then inhaled. “Maybe the others on the Omegrion could shed some light into this. The wolves deal with Dark-Hunters regularly, as do the bears.” 60
If it would get him back into traveling through time periods, then Arion was all for it. Besides, he severely doubted the sincerity of the man talking to him, and knew that Savitar would not allow trickery in any Omegrion hearing. It would probably be the only way to get the truth out, and keep his people from hunting a Dark-Hunter out of misplaced revenge.61
“I’ll contact Savitar this afternoon,” Arion said. “Until then, no one is to do anything regarding this Dark-Hunter.”62
Damn. “Thank you, Arion,” Reginald said, frowning as a door swung open to admit his youngest and only surviving son. Pissed at having to play the grieving father, Reginald walked up to Paul and placed a hand on each shoulder.63
“I have terrible news, son.”64
Arching an eyebrow at his father, Paul glanced at his Regis, then back. “I was adopted,” he guessed, then stopped. “No, wait. That would be good news.”65
Little bastard. “No, Paul.” He inhaled deeply. “Liam and Zane are dead.”66
“I…see,” Paul said slowly. Taking a step back to remove himself from his father’s touch, he looked at Arion. “Not that I’m surprised, but who did them in?”67
“A Dark-Hunter.” Arion gave both men a nod. “I’ll not intrude on your grief any longer.”68
Reginald waited a few seconds past the Regis’ departure before he turned on his son. “You stupid, worthless eagle,” he snarled. 69
“Love you too, daddy,” Paul replied. “But since I’m alive, and they’re not, I’d say Liam and Zane were the worthless ones.”70
“You’re not fit to lick their shoes!”71
“Not that I would want to, old man.” Sitting on the corner of the desk, Paul glared at his father. “Blame me if you wish, but know that this entire mess is your fault. By selling the condo in the first place, you created the outcome.”72
“Watch your mouth, or I’ll cut it off.”73
Snorting in amusement, Paul stood. “I’m not going to pretend that I’m sorry those two bastards are gone, father, but maybe you can learn from this. How many Arcadian families are living normal lives? How many don’t put out contracts on their own?”74
“How the hell should I know?” 75
“It’s the twenty-first century, and half the time we act like we’re still living in the dark ages. I, for one, am sick of it.”76
“Your brothers are dead, and you’re acting all righteous,” Reginald said in disgust. “Get out of my sight, and don’t return until you can bring pride to your family name.”77
Shrugging, Paul started for the door. “Whatever. But, and I plan on gloating here, when the time comes that you take that tumble, know that I will be there to watch you fall.”78
~~~~~~~~~~~~79
Even though she sat just a few yards away on the beach, Savitar could tell that Aiden was a million miles away in thought. Knowing that he was to blame for it, he felt that unfamiliar sensation of guilt that always popped up when he hurt her. Pushing it back to where it belonged, he walked up and sat beside her on the sand. 80
Closing his eyes briefly, he heard her thoughts, a confused mess of seemingly random feelings that centered around the events her life had seem in the past two years. First the murder of her family, then the attempted sacrifice by her husband, followed by a brief relationship with Savitar that really should have ended when he walked away from her. Then Stryker wanting her dead, which brought Savitar back. From there, it was fairly calm until the Tria mess came charging at her, and her betrayal of Ash.81
Opening his eyes, he regarded her calmly. Although he sailed through the past two years without much trouble, he could plainly see that it was wearing away at the one thing he never wanted to hurt.82
“I never intended for you to be hurt, ever,” he said in a low voice. “It seems that fate and the cosmos have you tied to so many important events that it can’t be helped.”83
“When will it stop?” she whispered. “Wait, no. I really don’t want to know.”84
“I wish I could tell you,” he said. “But I can’t lay that burden on you.”85
“Much easier just to be the eternal pawn,” she said bitterly.86
Sighing, Savitar reached out and placed his hand on top of hers in the sand. “Omnipotence has its perks, but it also carries a heavy burden.” Looking at the water, he sifted sand through the fingers of his other hand. “Do you step in, let it run its course, change it to your benefit, change it to someone else’s benefit, or sit back and watch beings kill one another until the universe explodes around you…” Trailing off, his gaze shifted to the sand. 87
“I could be a prick if I wanted to,” he continued, then glanced at her. “Well, a bigger prick than I am now. I have most convinced that I don’t give a damn about any thing or any one, nor will I ever. Which is true, really, but there are some things that I will interfere in to make sure they come to pass.”88
“You’re not a prick.”89
“That’s not what you thought earlier,” he said mildly. “It’s all right. I earned every bad thing said about me, and as fucked up as it sounds, I’m proud of them. No one’s got the balls to take me on, and because I am the way I am, the universe lasts just that much longer.”90
“Why are you telling me this?” 91
“I want you to be able to justify that anger you’re feeling,” he said. “I want you to be able to make sure any decisions you make are done with a clear conscience.”92
Giving him a side-glance, Aiden sighed. “I don’t know if it’s from being around you for so long, or just that I’ve been screwed around for even longer, but I understand why you did it.”93
“I…see.” No I don’t.94
Nodding, she brought up a hand and rubbed it over her eyes. “Actually, something Fury said made all this make sense.”95
“Fury made sense?” he asked in confusion. “That’s like one of the signs of the Apocalypse or something.”96
“Scary, isn’t it. He mentioned that my being booted from the Patria would pull me out of official protection from nearly everyone. Then, after the Dolophoni,” she paused and looked at him. “Why was he after me?”97
”Artemis thought you and Ash were shagging each other.”98
She blinked at the nonchalant way he said that. “Oh. Weird.” Shaking her head, she continued. “Then pulling Tria and I out of my place and putting us with a Dark-Hunter…and your phone call and text message… they pointed to something happening. You were trying to tell me in a way that wouldn’t come right out and say that something was going to happen.”99
“That doesn’t explain why I put you in harm’s way.”100
She gave him a small smile. “You put me in harm’s way because, despite all you say or try to prove, you’d sacrifice someone you cared for if it meant more would survive.”101
“No.”102
“No?”103
“I did it because I knew you would survive. I saw this all play out a while back.” Standing, he looked down at her. “And still I interfered to make sure that it played out the way it was supposed to. I could have easily stopped it all, but I didn’t.”104
“You saved Craig’s life.”105
“He wasn’t supposed to die,” Savitar replied. 106
Sighing at his inability to give a straight answer, or at least one that didn’t make her want to punch him, Aiden turned away to look at the water. “I want to call the Omegrion.” 107
Savitar looked at her back. “You don’t have a Patria to base the request on,” he told her. “And don’t give me that look. I may twist a lot of things around to suit me, but the Omegrion rules aren’t one of them.” 108
Keeping the incredulous look on her face, Aiden turned to look at him. “I know the eagles,” she said. “The deaths of Liam and Zane are going to bring out a few that will want to take a swipe at Dominic. I can’t let that happen.” She looked at him again. “It’s not fair.”109
“Of course it isn’t,” he agreed. “In a perfect world.”110
“I need the security of the Omegrion so I can formally return the condo to the Patria.”111
“Why would you do that?” Savitar asked, already knowing the reply. 112
“Because it’s the right thing to do,” she replied. “I was being far too stubborn before, keeping the place out of spite, and for something to hold on to when my world was taken away from me. Now, it’s just not worth it.”113
”Give it back, and what will you have?”114
“Nothing,” she admitted. “But sometimes nothing is a better alternative than what was.”115
Something similar to pride started in Savitar as he looked at her, but he kept it off his face. She was willing to give up the security of property to keep someone else safe, and that was one of the coolest things he’d witnessed in a long time. 116
“Don’t worry,” he said. “You’ll have your chance sooner than you think.”117
~~~~~~~~~~~118
Feeling like complete crap, Melissa pulled the door open and blinked in surprise at the person who stood there. 119
“Craig’s in the hospital,” Dom said. “He’ll be fine, but I think he’d want to see you when he wakes.”120
Melissa stared at him in confusion as fear ran through her. “What? What happened?”121
“Grab you coat, and I’ll drive you there,” Dom said instead. 122
“Dominic, please,” she whispered. “What happened?”123
“I’ll tell you at the hospital.” Walking back to the car, he could hear her grab a few things by the door, then shut it. Footsteps hurried after him as he opened the driver’s side of the Ford Explorer. He would have rather had his regular car, but doubted that Melissa would appreciate being squished into the nearly non-existent back seat. 124
Angie gave him a small smile, which lifted his spirits more than she could ever know. The drive to the hospital seemed to take longer than the few minutes it should have, and he couldn’t keep his eyes from drifting to the rearview mirror and the woman in the back seat. 125
The feeling was back from before, and he had the sensation that he knew her from a long time ago. Breathing in relief as he arrived at the hospital, the respite was cut short as a figure stepped out of the shadows. 126
“Great,” he muttered. 127
Ash approached the three as they walked across to the main entrance. His eyes rested on Melissa for a brief moment before returning to Dom. “Craig’s in room two-thirteen,” he said. “Tell the nurse that Ash said you’re okay. Dom will be along in a couple minutes.”128
Not even bothering to hide his annoyance, Dom watched as Angie and Melissa went into the clinic. “What?”129
“What’s she doing here?”130
“Which one?”131
“Both, actually,” Ash replied. 132
“Well, Angie asked if she could come, and Melissa deserves to be here.”133
“That’s not your call.”134
“Unless Craig’s been reassigned, then as my squire, it is my call.” Dom inhaled deeply to clam the annoyance that he was experiencing. “And on that note, why the hell didn’t you feel the pain when you slammed me against the wall?”135
“What?” Ash asked, completely confused at the topic switch. 136
“Earlier,” Dom said. “You recall the slamming, and the air blast to the guy, namely me, that you had pinned to the wall?”137
”Why are you bringing that up now?”138
“Because I want to know why it didn’t affect you. If I hit another DH, I’d be feeling it ten times worse. But, damn it, you felt nothing when you attacked me.”139
“I’m better at sucking up the pain,” Ash said vaguely, not wanting him to know that he was immune to that little Dark-Hunter rule. “Especially when annoyed.”140
“Sure, yeah, let’s go with that,” Dom said, not believing a word of what Ash told him. “How much longer are the eagle and the other one going to be staying at my house?”141
“I’ll let you know,” Ash said, then vanished.142
“I fucking hate it when he does that!” Aggravated, Dom turned and walked in to the clinic. 143
Stepping out of the stairwell to the second floor, he stopped when he nearly banged into Melissa walking through the halls. “Whoa.”144
“Sorry,” she muttered. “Got the flu or something, and didn’t really want to be throwing up in Craig’s room.”145
“Good idea,” Dom said, glad she hadn’t tossed her cookies on the ride to the hospital. Looking down the hall, he could make out the numbers to the room he was searching for, and glanced as Melissa again. “You going to be okay?”146
“Yeah,” she nodded. “Just need a little fresh air.”147
“Don’t go off the property,” Dom said. “It’s a private clinic, and security won’t let you back in once you leave unless they know you.”148
Melissa nodded, then gave him a studied look. “I make you uncomfortable, don’t I?”149
Dom stared for a moment, then took a step back. “You remind me of my wife,” he admitted. “It’s a little too disconcerting at times.”150
“I look like your deceased wife?”151
“No. And that’s the weird part.” He shrugged, and shoved his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket. “It’s hard to explain without sounding like a complete moron.” He gave her a tight smile. “You go get that fresh air. I’m going to see Craig.” 152
Melissa watched as he turned and silently stalked down the hall. 153
~~~~~~~~~~~~~154
Standing in Dom’s living room, Aiden took a slow look around. She hadn’t been back since she whisked Craig off to the clinic, and she was trying to find signs that anything had happened. The carpet was clean, the dragon figurines all where they had originally been, and everything looked…normal.155
“Thought you’d be on Neratiti,” a voice from behind her said.156
Slowly turning, she smiled slightly. “I was. Did you fix this?” She motioned to the room with her hands.157
Nodding, Ash approached slowly. “Yes.” Reaching out, he took her hand in his and stared into her eyes. “Show me what happened.”158
Aiden twitched slightly as Ash grabbed on to her memories, but instead of denying him, she let him view her recollections of earlier. Starting as she walked up stairs to get the things she’d forgotten, she went from the threats to downstairs, then the kitchen. Craig’s injury, since she didn’t witness it, was left out, but Ash could see as Dom placed himself between the two Weres and the others.159
Gasping slightly as Dom stepped in front of Tria, Ash felt annoyance with himself. He’d attacked the Hunter, and Dom hadn’t said a word about saving Tria’s life. To him, it was just another thing that had to be done. The memories of Dom killing the eagles were disturbing, and Ash could feel Aiden’s concerns as she watched. 160
Letting her hand drop, Ash took a step back. “Thank you.”161
“Did Tria’s memories tell you anything else about the attack?”162
“I didn’t peek,” Ash said.163
“Why not?” Aiden asked, confused why he wouldn’t access all options available to him. Then, it dawned on her. “Does Tria even know what you are?”164
“Uh, you don’t even know what I am,” Ash said. “So I don’t think you’re one to lecture me on anything.”165
Crossing her arms over her chest, Aiden gave him a soft look. “Acheron, erstwhile prince, proper Atlantean, son of Apollymi, Altantean god of fate, bed toy of Artemis, First and Head Dark-Hunter,” pausing, she smiled gently. “I miss anything?” 166
“I think you covered the basics,” Ash said, angry but holding it in. “How the hell did you get that information?” 167
“Photographic memory, remember?” she said. “Plus, I looked through that website you keep telling me that is fake.” Shaking her head, she smiled again. “Dude, if were-hunter.com is a front, then so’s dark-hunter.com. Half the so-called lies are based on truth, and I sorted through the ones that made the most sense.”168
“She knows some,” he said, finally answering the original question. “And I don’t want her to know the rest.”169
“Secrets can kill a relationship.”170
“So says the eagle bedding the ultimate enigma.”171
Not the least bit put off, Aiden smiled slightly. “Ah, but we’re not talking about me, are we. Besides, what I don’t know about Savitar doesn’t bother me. What Tria doesn’t know about you does bother her.”172
“You know what?” Ash asked, pissed off. “I’m getting tired of people, and by that, I mean you specifically, getting all Oracle-ish on me, and spinning cryptic messages. That’s my thing, and I’ll ask you to back off.”173
“Imagine how I feel when I have to resort to doing that to get through to someone that really should have all his shit together and have made a decision by day two of this little drama.”174
“I have my decision,” he informed her.175
“Then why didn’t you tell me?” she growled. “Gawd. Do you have any idea on how big a headache being vague is?”176
“Trust me,” he said dryly, “I’m well aware.”177
“Why are you hesitating telling her?”178
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “I think I like the feeling of being with her this way, and once I tell her, then it will all change. She’ll just be another responsibility I have, and the way I feel for her will shift.”179
“Oh, Ash,” Aiden whispered sadly. “Love should never be a burden.”180
“I know.” Inhaling, he smiled, and leaned towards her slightly. Giving her a small kiss on the forehead, he pulled back. “Thank you.”181
“Friends help friends Ash,” she said. “I’ll be here if you need to talk, or just pout while Simi and I poke fun at your expense.”182
“Thanks,” he whispered then vanished.183
~~~~~~~~~~~~184
Arion Petrakis leaned back slightly in the chair he was sitting in, and regarded the person standing to the left of him. “Honestly,” he said, “I don’t believe Reginald’s details of the event.”185
“His version is far form the truth,” Savitar confirmed. “He sent his sons to kill Aiden for the condo. Once dead, they would play dumb and get you to rescind the exoristos.”186
“Which would place her possessions as Patria property since she has no family,” Arion finished with a disgusted sigh. “A good plan, but not one I would have supported.” He hesitated, then continued. “I’m not going to request the Omegrion over this, but I would ask that you not annihilate our entire line because of Reginald and his sons.”187
Pretending to consider the request, Savitar walked to the large throne across the room and sat in it. “I’ll think about it,” he finally said. “Now leave.” 188
Before Arion could reply, he was whisked off the island, and back to his home. Savitar stared at the chair for a while, then decided that there was no time like the present to finish a few things. 189
One moment Reginald Kalenta was getting into the back of his limo, and the next he was standing front and center in an opulent room. He jerked as he looked around, his panic not quite reaching the level he knew it would hit before too long. 190
His gaze finally fell upon Savitar as he sat on the opulent throne, looking at the eagle like he was deciding to kill him quickly, or make him suffer. He knew why he was here, and although part of him hoped it was for condolences on the loss of his sons, the rest of him knew better. The Omegrion mediator had found out that Reginald was behind the attempt on the shamed eagle’s life. Self-preservation kicked in, prompting Reginald to try to negotiate for his life. 191
“Savitar-“192
“You’ve managed to piss me off completely,” Savitar said in a cold voice. “I can appreciate all the manipulation you did to try to get the building back, but honestly,” he paused for a moment. “You fucked with the wrong god.”193
“I-“194
“Exoristos or not,” he continued, “she was still under my protection.” 195
“This was all Paul’s idea. He-“196
“Usually,” the god said, ignoring the occasional interruption, “I would kill you, possibly your family or bloodline and be done with it.”197
“No!”198
Finally looking at the eagle, Savitar scowled. “You sent your sons to kill her. Your own family…and you’re not the slightest bit upset that they were killed. And now you’re trying to push the blame on to your only surviving son. 199
“I know what happened,” Savitar continued. “And I know exactly who is to blame. You’re a failure as an Arcadian, and a complete waste of space as a father.”200
The eagle tried to talk, but found he couldn’t. Clutching as his throat, he attempted to scratch away the invisible hand that held him. Changing to eagle form, he clawed at nothing, screeching as panic set in. 201
Watching without interest, Savitar waited until the form returned back to human and collapsed the floor. Releasing the invisible grip he had, the god gave small shake of his head, then stood and walked out of the room.202

Very Good
Melissa is pregnant, that's all. Very nicely done on the whole plot. I like that Savitar pulled a Darth Vader on Reginald. Awesome.

beginning: 4, language: 5, plot: 5, ending: 5, dialog: 5, characters: 4.

ex-nay on the pregnancy-ay.

A Darth Vader? I like that! I have been putting small Star Wars references in a few places, so maybe that was one I did, but didn't realize.
Glad you're liking it so far! -
-
Sorry
Didn't do that to spoil it. I hadn't read chapter 16 yet and that was what I felt was up with her. Just finished another book where the main gal thought she had the flu and found out she was pregnant with twins, so I kinda had a psychic premonition. Again sorry. -
-
Naw, that's okay... I was sort of hinting at it without saying it....two other people asked me if she was pregnant, too.

I am wondering a little bit about Melissa as well. She said she had the flu, and Ash had seen her being very happy about something at about this point in the timeline. I was kinda wondering if you had her get bitten by a gallu. that would explain the illness, and since most gallu are psychotic (kinda obvious, since they like to take on two charontes and an ex-god) that would cover the happinees, as well.
Line 200... what a badass! -

I thought about that, then I changed my mind. When Dom is looking at her in the rearview mirror, he sees her... since Gallu can't hide their true form from mirrors.
Savitar is too fun to write!

I am curious about Melissa ... and pissed about Ash !!!
Like Aiden said, love should never be a burden. -
-
Melissa will be 'revealed' soon.
As will Ash's decision.

Chapter 15...yesssssssssssss.
Why isn't Dom at the hospital?
Sneaky eagles.
Nice scene between Savitar and Aiden. Shows that they understand so much, but still need to understand a lot more.
Love the way Dom switches subject mid-thought
As, Ash, Ash,
"Altantean god of fate, bed toy of Artemis"
Line 186, son's should be sons.
Savitar killed him!
way to go Sav! Nice to flex those godly muscles once in a while.

Thanks for pointing out line 186.

Yeah... Savitar isn't much for fighting (or so the books claim), so I had to kill the guy off without that. I still think he'd kick serious ass in a down and dirty. -
-
you could put him in a scene where he knocks Stryker around a bit. just for fun.
-
-
He slammed him around pretty good in 'Golden Tears', but that was godbolts. Dude needs to get his hands a little dirty
