Reflection (Sonnet)

Gazing at my distorted reflection,
My eyes are met with a face not my own.
Memories lose me in recollection,
And I stop to think on how I have grown.1

I always seem to be running away,
Things left in shambles, never coming back.
Everything I touch starts to decay,
And I know it won’t be long ‘til I crack.2

Shadows steal past, creeping up behind me,
Set to strike as soon as my back is turned.
A tumult of waves brings me out to sea,
Where I drown in what for which I once yearned.3

The river of my tears has long dried up,
My life nothing more than an empty cup.

This is really full of emotion and the last line seems to be the apidamy of the whole thing. I know the feeling oddly enough. I like these kinds of poems myself. I can't write happy poems or anything else to save my life. It starts out happy but always ends in ruin. A wonderful poem. Thank you for entering my contest and good luck.

    Whoa.

You're kind of getting me depressed, Gracie =|

Such a STRONG poem. It's touched me and banged my heart with a frying pan xD

Banged your heart with a frying pan?!? XD Lol! Thanks for commenting, and sorry if it made you depressed for a second. ^^; Sad poems are easier to write than happy ones, at least for me.

I completely understand! I agree with you. SO much easier.

Don't worry, banging my heart with a frying pan is not bad

Exactly...when I try to write happy poems, they turn out kind of cheesy... Lol
