This is a poem I wrote back in 7th grade English. Just before that time my mother was involved in a car accident on the job delivering Pepsi products to local stores. I was away at my fathers with my twin sister the day it happen. It wasn't until a week later I was allowed to see my mother for she spent those days in critical condition. 9

I can still remember the moment I saw my mother for the first time since hearing about the accident. I looked at her with my own two eyes and I was shocked to see the one bright and always so loving mother of mine was no longer that, but rather a sleeping vessel with no sign of ever waking up. I was just beginning to grow up and yet I still could not understand why something like this would ever happen to me and my family. 10

I remember going back to school during that time and everyone just simply gave me space. Students and Teachers alike. It was as if the school announced my tragedy and everyone felt sorry for me. Even my best friend left me alone in solitude. 11

I spent the days after school in the hospital with my mom. I used to look at her and think to myself. "She's bound to wake up sometime!" My hopes were short lived however when the news that my mother was brain dead came in like an arrow shooting straight through the heart of my family. 12

Even being divorced from her for over 7 years, my own father refused to give up one her. He had recently gave himself to God and repented and asked to be saved. He used this new lifestyle of his to always give him hope for a miracle from Heaven. He always used to tell me, "Soon God will put his light back into mommy." I honestly didn't believe him. 13

My father was a heavy drinker for most of his life and in the same, gave me no reason to ever trust him...until it happened. 14

One day early in the morning when I was alone in the room with my mother did I witness a miracle. My mother woke up from her 3 week coma and the first thing she did was look at me and my surprised tearing eyes and say. "Good morning son. It's so bright in here." I looked around the room and noticed all the blinds were still down and told my mother that there was little light in the room and she said, "The light, I can see it with my eyes." It was at that moment I felt it inside me as well blasting like a supernova and stopping my world dead in its spin. Truly the light coming from our hearts was shining for the grace of God and none can ever shine any better then that day. 15

After all that happened. My mother is alive and well but is still bound to a wheelchair. Standing in front of you Genie, I should now make a wish in asking for my mother to get her legs back...but I cannot. You see Genie, My mother was brought back in heavenly light and love. God returned my mother to me because he loved me. Not because I wished for it. Instead I prayed for it and believed. I also believe my mother will one day get her legs back if not now then in Heaven. I thank you for the wish but I believe in Gods love.
