What is procrastination & Writers block?
1

My definition of procrastination is when ones ability to act of think upon something has become still. And upon that brings what we writers like to call writers block. It is like our brain goes dead, like a brain lapse, or a brain fart as someone calls it. Thus when in a writers block we proceed to procrastinate. To avoid things, to leave them, wait until inspiration strikes. Then what is writers block? It is ones ability to avoid working on ones writing. Whether it be a case of mental blockage, some physical or emotional incapability to proceed with writing. Writers block is when your brain malfunctions, and becomes just what is named. Blocked.

How do I over come Writers block, and procrastination?
2

I write... Heard it before? Well hear it again the easiest way out of a writers block is to just write whatever crap forms into your head, and hope for the best. Some one it might be gold, while some of it might look like a pile of dog shit you just want to throw into the bin because it stinks that bad, and makes you sick.3

Another way though is to research. There is a lot to be said in research. While it's fun and inspirational, you might actually find something that sparks and interest, and that may very well lead you back onto the path of writing. So research in my opinion is a valuable tool. I mean even if you don't. Research is a valuable tool.4

Now one that you might all think is a little NO Duh !!!!... But Reading is a valuable tool when coming against writers block. So many times I have gone to write and been completely brain dead, and so I read a few articles, read some on an interesting novel I am reading. Read the dictionary. I read anything I can get my hands onto that looks interesting. Anything that might spark an idea. Sometimes it helps to read books in your Novels genre field, other times its best to steer clear and read a book only to analyses it, and to get you thinking for writing. So really, what have you got to loose? Nothing... to write you must know how to read, and to read you must know how to write. Fiction writing wise anyway.5

Now besides that, when I am dealing with procrastination & or Writers Block I also do the following things, that really have helped me in the strangest ways:6

. Write you novel as a play ( weird I know but then you get the dialog for your novel and then you can just fill in the gaps.)7

. Make a mix c-d of songs that inspire you, and only listen to those songs while you are writing. Name it after you Novel, choose songs revolving around the plot. You will amazed at how insightful and inspirational it can be.8

. Talk to people, toss your ideas around, get creative with people, and with yourself. Many times I have found myself having the idea, but procrastinating because I was afraid of what people would think. But after a few chats with some honest friends, I knew that all I had to do was pick up that pen, that was the first step, and to overcome my writers block. I had to keep on writing.

Writers block is the single most contagious disease among even the most gifted writers. I will tell you what the author Peter Begle imparted to me when we met. He said that you can not always wait for inspiration to come to you for there are often mouths to feed and time is of the essence. Just sit down and write; you make your own inspiration. And I have carried these words with me and they have inspired me to write even when I do not have the heart to do so. I wish you much accolades and jovial temperment.

God how true is that description of writers block and don't think anyone yet as managed to describe it just as well as that, (brain fart! lol not heard that one before!!) That is a good way to over come it I never thought of doing that, usually it is the television or reading one of your great stories that get me ticking over with the creating again! nice piece very personal and well put!

Yet more insight from the ever expert PM
I agree with what you have said, sometimes you just do not know where your story's heading and it can be annoying. What I do it what PM does, I just write whatever crap comes into my head and see where it goes. You would not believe where it's brought my characters in the past, seriously.

Well done. Glad someone wrote this down.
