Keith and Peter have been pulling pranks on each other from the time Peter married Keith's sister, Cherise, but the last trick was the best one by far.1
Keith had gone to visit Cherise and Peter, but when it was time to go home he noticed his van wasn't running right. It had an odd shake and shimmy that he hadn't felt in it before. It felt like there was something wrong with the back tires or suspension or something, so he pulled over to look. There was nothing visibly wrong with it, but he didn't want to take any chances. So he drove back to his sister's house.2
When he got there he went in and asked where Peter was. Cherise told him Peter was lying down and she didn't want to wake him. He then went out and took the tires off the van to look closer at the suspension, muttering to himself the whole time about what could possibly be wrong. There was nothing out of the ordinary and Keith was thoroughly puzzled at this point.3
Now he was worried about something breaking, so he asked Cherise to follow him part of the way home so she could see if there was something visibly wrong with the way the van was riding. Well, when they got out on the road and up to speed the shake and shimmy started again. That worried Keith so he pulled onto the next side road and got out to look again. He was scratching his head trying to figure out what could possibly be wrong with his van.4
Cherise pulled up behind him so he walked back to talk to her. About the time he got to her Explorer he noticed his van was rolling away and picking up speed. Then it dawned on him that it was rolling uphill. That's when it hit him that someone had stolen his van! He looked at the rear-view mirror of the van to try to see the driver, but could not.5
He took off at a dead run trying to catch up with it, but of course the van was faster. So he turned back to his sister's car with the intent of giving chase. He tried to jump into the driver's seat, but Cherise was still sitting in it laughing hysterically and trying to get him to get in the back seat. At this point Keith was boiling mad and couldn't understand why his sister was laughing so hard. There was certainly nothing funny about his van being stolen. He had to wait a minute for Cherise to catch her breath before she could explain why it was so funny...6
Well... Peter had been lying down all right... in the back of Keith's van. He was crouched in a DARK corner so he wouldn't be seen. When Keith would get the van up to speed he would start bouncing around to make the van shake. He found it very difficult to keep from laughing at Keith for all the muttering and cussing he was causing. When Keith got out of the van that last time Peter could not resist taking off with it. He stayed crouched down so he wouldn't be seen, put the van in gear, and pushed on the accelerator with his hand until he was over the hill. Then he got into the driver's seat and drove a little further out of sight, but not much further.7
Once Cherise was calmed down from laughing so hard, she was able to tell Keith what was going on. Keith calmed down then and was able to see the funny side, too.8
Keith hasn't done anything to get Peter back for it though. Cherise says it's because Keith is afraid of what Peter might do in return.

i can picture myself in the shoes of peter and pulling a prank like that. in my youth, i had pulled plenty of pranks but not so much these days since i rarely leave the DARKsid of the moon, hehehe. good luck in the contest, DARK.

That was a good prank to read today since today is April Fool's day. I can see how Keith could be very upset and finally got to laugh about it in the end. It's ashame that he is letting Peter get away without pulling a prank on him(lol). Good luck in the contest.

Hee hee. What a prank! I would've loved to have been there. Wonderfully written. I wonder what Keith could possibly do to get Peter back.

I don't know what Keith might think of to get Peter back, but whatever it is I want to be there to see it in person

Peter would never do anything that was actually destructive, just ornery. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you for your comment. I do best with short stories, I think, but I'm new at this.

lol this was so funny and just what I needed to read today. Poor Keith thinking his van was being stolen! I can't imagine what Peter would do in return if he tried to pull one back on him lol. Thank you for entering and good luck in the contest

Thanks for the comment. Peter was always better at pulling pranks than Keith. Who knows what he could think up next. I'm just glad he has never pulled any on me

Good story
I think the story might be interesting by telling it from Peter's point of view that way you could show and not tell the story.

Paragraph 7 WAS from Peter's point of view. At least that was where I got the story from. All 3 characters told their sides of the story and I got their permission to use it. Of course I did change the names. I couldn't see a way to make it a first person narrative. Thanks for the comment.
