The Story of Tina and I

Sitting in her room, Tina couldn’t get her ex-boyfriend’s face out of her mind.  She sighed heavily and laid down on her stomach on her bed.1

Tina Harvard was a 16-year-old girl.  She had brown hair and hazel eyes.  Not to mention she was abnormally tall.  She was 5’11” to be exact.  She was a junior at Hillside High School in Hillside, California.2

Her phone rang, breaking her thoughts.  She looked at the caller ID and her breath became shallow and her heart raced.  He ex, Dan, was calling her and his number appeared on the screen.  She took a deep breath after the second ring and answered.3

“Hello?” she said, her voice shaking a little.4

“Hey Tina,” said a deep and husky voice, recognizing her own.5

“Dan, hi,” she breathed.6

“How have you been?” he asked, as polite as he always was.7

“Good, you?” she replied, her heart returning to its normal pace.8

“I’m fine.  I saw that you called.  Did you need anything?” he asked, the curiosity in his voice couldn’t help but show.9

“Actually, I have to talk to you about something, and please hear me out before you say anything,” she said, closing her eyes.10

“Ok,” he reassured her, allowing her to go on.11

She took a deep breath and stood to close her door.  After she had done so, she returned to her bed and closed her eyes again.  She didn’t know if it was a good idea to bring it up, but she knew the only way she would ever find out, is if she took the chance.12

She began to explain what she was hiding.  She told him how she felt.  She still liked him and she wanted him back.  After about a few minutes of explaining, she heard Dan sigh and feared the worse.13

This story of how and what Tina went through in all of this is exactly how I felt and still feel.  It’s similar to what I went through.  To be honest, it’s not a wonderful feeling.  I know some people would think I was crazy, but I was in love at the time.  Some people didn’t and still don’t believe it or me for that matter.  But, well, people are just too stubborn to realize that maybe I really did.  But what happened to Tina and what happened before is actually where my story begins.  I was 16, just like her.  I was abnormally tall also.  I was 6 feet, and I still am.  I’m going to tell you from the dance before my ex-boyfriend and I went to two days before we started going out until now.  So, just sit back and get ready to read something that might relate to an experience you once had.14

I was nervous.  I had my dress on and I was trying to do my hair.  My best friend at the time was with me doing her hair also.  My mom was helping her as I grabbed my jacket and my purse.  My grandma was driving me over to my date’s house.  I said my goodbyes and then my grandma and I got into the car.  My heart throbbed in my chest.  We turned onto his street and I felt my heart come into my throat.  I was very nervous.  Finally we reached his house where I walked up to his front door.  I inhaled deeply and knocked on his door.  His mom answered the door with a smile on face.  She let me in the house and led me into the living room.  His brother and sister ran into the room, knowing that I had arrived.  They gasped and his sister, Carrie, said, “Oh my gosh!  You look so pretty!”  I blushed and that caused his siblings to laugh.  His dad walked into the room that we were all in and he had to do a double take.  He said, “You’ve never looked better.”  I took that as a compliment.  I sat down on a nearby chair.  I heard a “wow” from behind me a few moments later.  I turned and there stood Chris, my date.  His eyes were open wide, a dreamy look in them, and his jaw was dropped.  I blushed deeply and I gave him a shy smile.15

“You look nice too,” I said, giving him an approving look.  He really did.  He looked very handsome in his black tux.  I had a boutinear in my hand for him and he had a very beautiful corsage for me.  It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.  I stood up and I glanced down at the ground.  I was coming out of my comfort zone that I was trying to stay in.  I felt a little more welcomed as we began to talk a little bit.  Finally, right before we were about leave, his mother said, “Wait, pictures first.”  My grandma was waiting for us out in the car, but before I had gone inside, she told me she would wait as long as it took.  I really didn’t like pictures, but since it was for memories, I allowed myself to be photogenic for the moment.  After his mom got pictures of him placing the corsage on my wrist and a picture of the two of us with his arm around me, we were finally on our way to dinner.  My grandma drove us to East Side Mario’s where we had a very nice dinner.  We didn’t really know what to talk about, so it was quiet for the most part.  We walked outside and I called my grandma to pick us up.  My grandma showed up about 15 minutes later with my grandpa along with her, and then drove us back to my house.  Unfortunately, my aunt and my cousin’s were over.  They were gawking at him like they’ve never seen a guy before.  My aunt took pictures of us, and then, we were finally on our way to the dance.16

Nervousness ran through me as we walked up to the gym doors and entered the dance.  We took our jackets off and then waited for my friends.17
