Transformation

It was really not all that bad in the beginning. I mean, there were times when I felt I should simply run away, but I always believed I was just being paranoid.2

Oh, I forgot you have no idea what I am talking about. So here goes. 3

It all began when the baby came. Everyone was rushing after it like it was some sacred creature. I did take a look too, to see what all the fuss was about. Although I was immediately shoed away, I did get one good look. It seemed rather dull, you know. Mostly sleeping, or pooping. Anyway nobody else shared my disinterest, and the family and friends and all visitors seemed totally charmed by it. It was almost as if I did not exist. Hmm!4

I should really have seen it coming, when her belly started bulging. I just thought she was becoming over weight. Besides, at that point of time she still loved me, and seemed to think I was the cutest thing ever. He too, was really nice then, and always had time for me.5

But once the creature came - it became different. Everyone only had time for the baby. They loved it, played with it and seemed to burst with rapturous admiration every time it did some stupid trick like laughing or clapping or something..6

And when it started crawling... And eventually walking... You wont believe how much fuss was made over it! Nothing I ever did seem to measure up anymore. None of my clever antics that they used to die for, was any good to them anymore. Their universe shifted to the baby.7

I was often sad, and lonely, and neglected. Nobody noticed.8

But now, things have changed. The creepy baby is now a pre-schooler, and he seems to love me even more than they ever loved me. So I am not scared anymore. I adore him, in fact, and he thinks the world of me, and enjoys my antics more than they ever did. I am no more their second best. I am HIS first best!! After all, I am now his favorite, favorite pet dog..9
