Shades of Gray

The only bird flies away1

A white streak across the sky2

What I would have given3

To spread my wings and be forgiven4

5

A human is just a person6

Who can see the beauty of things7

Who is rewarded with the entire day8

But paints the sky in shades of gray9

10

Instead of digging deeper11

To find diamonds in the stone12

A human settles with the cheap13

You never plant, you never reap14

15

Never on one's deathbed16

Have they wished things had gone faster17

They take your hand and warn you 18

To what you’ve always wanted to19

20

Every person has received beauty21

But they can’t understand it22

Everyone has been given their own day23

And waste it, painting in shades of gray24

25

The only bird flies away26

On elegant wings of white27

We don’t comprehend things this way28

We paint beauty in shades of gray29

So that we can see them right.

That was amazing. It was beautiful and inspiring. It was interesting and incredible. I was hooked from line one. Somehow it spoke to me and I knew what you were trying to say with it. I loved how simply this was laid out. You didn't go overboard with rhyming or any funky words or phrases. You said what you had to say in a beautiful way.

The message behind this is deep and beautiful. You have a way with words. I would say that's one of the best poems I've ever read.

Oh I loved this poem! I loved the sentiment you put into it, how the rhyming seems so simple and so beautiful, I dont think there is anyone who could not relate to wanting to 'spread their wings and be forgiven'. I loved the lines 'Who is rewarded with the entire day/ but paints the sky in shades of grey'. You did a wonderful job my dear, keep it up

This is great. I love how you rhymed, too. You said so much without saying a lot at all! Keep on writing!

    Keep up the great work,
    -Brian.
