JD and Mishell were taking a romantic stroll by the Azul Stream where the salmon were spawning and flowers of spring were beginning to blossom. Mishell's ear itched from her last fight with a hungry lioness, and JD licked it to help ease the uncomfort.1

Just then, a growl came from behind them, and both wolves were surprised to be able to hear it over the rush of the nearby waterfall. Mishell turned and rolled her eyes. The alpha male, Kasar, growled again, challenging JD to a fight, but Mishell stood between them.2

"No fighting over me," she said, annoyed.3

"And why not?" Kasar sauntered over to her and licked her neck.4

Mishell wiped it off disgusted, "Because no matter who wins, you will never be my mate."5

Kasar laughed at that, "I'm the alpha. You will be my mate if I say so."6

JD walked passed his mate, "Bring it, alpha. I will win easily."7

Kasar chuckled, "Nay. You are nothing but a hunter."8

Mishell, confident in her mate, stepped aside, "Then have at it. I am sure my mate will win."9

Soon, the fight was on. Kasar lunged at JD, who sidestepped easily, laughing. Then, he followed through with his dodge by grabbing the alpha by the neck. Kasar yelped and wiggled away, landing in the stream. The sudden cold and draw of the current startled him, and he almost lost his balance. After regaining it, he jumped out and ran at JD again. Anticipating a dodge, he was shocked that JD reared up and caught him with his forelegs. Kasar grabbed his neck and yanked, causing fur to tear and blood to spurt out. JD yelped and evaded the next attack from Kasar's teeth, and Mishell watched her mate bleed in horror.10

JD ran into the stream and growled a challenge. Mishell knew that water was his strength, and prayed silently that Kasar would take the bait. He did. Soon, both wolves were splashing in the water and going closer to the waterfall by the second. Mishell heard a yelp and then watched in fear as both wolves tumbled over the edge. She ran as fast as she could to the bottom, where she saw JD struggling to get to shore. He had just reached shore when Kasar's head poked up and grabbed his leg. He was under once again.11

Mishell desperately wanted to help her mate but knew that it was not her place. JD had to win this battle on his own.12

Both wolves were under now. Then, all was silent, and the water was stained red. JD's head appeared, and the battered wolf crawled to shore. Mishell hurried to greet him, and as she was licking his wounds, she saw the lifeless body of the alpha-had-been, and she knew that once the pack caught wind of it, JD would become next alpha, and with him, she would be alpha female.13

EPILOGUE:14

JD and Mishell earned more respect than Kasar had ever earned. The whole pack loved them and were greatful that they had killed the previous alpha, for he had tried to molest many females of the pack; taken or no. They had a litter of four pups that were raised as respective citizens, and the Azul Stream was renamed the Rocher Stream.
