Layton Hickel had all eyes on him every friday night. Thats what happens when you have a brother who was a star when he played. Laytons brother, Jordan, was an amazing runner in high school and went on to play at the college level. Layton seemed that he could do the same thing. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall and 205 lbs, Layton was the starting fullback for Claflin as well as middle linebacker. He was a fearless defender and a powerful blocker. With him leading the way for Adam Hickel, many newspapers were predicting Claflin to be one of the top teams of the year and had them ranked number 3 in the preseason. 1
Coming off of a freshman season in which he saw limited playing time, Layton had a promising future as the times he did play varsity he played very well. His final stats on the year were 45 tackles after only playing limited time in 7 games as well as 345 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. The Wildcat Faithful couldn't wait for the new season to begin as they were anxious to see what Layton and Adam could provide to the team. They didn't have long to wait as the first game of the season was only days away.
