She sits, watching the blade slowly move across her body, The blood begins to ooze from the cuts but she feels nothing. She is numb. The blade takes her away form the world. The darkness that she finds comforting draws nearer and nearer. Soon she will have gone. Soon she can be with him and hold him and this time never have to let go. She won’t leave him again. She won’t break her promise.1

The shops were covered in glittering decorations, sparkling tinsel and nearly every store had a Santa’s grotto with a huge queue outside. Children had on their winter hats and scarves and parents looked weary from all the toys they had been shown, the toys Father Christmas would be getting for them even if it made him bankrupt.3
Maria Johnson stepped out into the snow-covered street arm in arm with her fiancé Mark. They had just finished their shopping for the day and were debating about whether to go home, in case the snow started falling again and they got stuck in town, or whether to go and have a drink in their favourite café along the road, where they knew the owner would welcome them with steaming mugs of coffee. Maria shivered as she felt the first drops of snow fell onto her hat. Mark led her down the familiar street where they had parked their car. He didn’t want to be stuck in the middle of a snowstorm and he knew how sensitive Maria could be to the cold so he decided to go home. They could always make a hot drink when they got back. 4
It was about half an hour into the journey when Mark began to feel something was wrong. They were driving down ‘ice hill’, well known for its slippery roads in winter so he ignored the brakes failing the first time. However when they did it again he began to panic and Maria noticed his worry. The coastal road had been driven by many drivers before and even with no railings on either side where the cliff was, so far no one had been hurt. 5
The car began to get out of control when the downhill got steeper. It skidded off the side of the road and was leaning at and angel over the top of the cliff. Maria and Mark sat in shock for a while but as the car began to tilt more Maria began to scream uncontrollably. Mark thought about the rope in the boot. If he could get to it maybe he could pull the car back up. To get to it he would have to climb around the outside of the car. He pulled the door open. He had not anticipated how far over the cliff they were. As he climbed out into the open his foot slipped. Maria realising what had happened grabbed his hand. At this point Mark was hanging by one hand over the top of the cliff looking up into the face of Maria. He began shout at her “don’t let go”. His hand began to slip and he fell. Maria screamed. She had let go and would never forgive herself. 6
