The Hay List

By the time I die, I want to have learned too many things, gone on way too many crazy adventures, and I want to have had far too much fun... If it's possible, I'm going to achieve it. So I have a list, of all the things I want to have done by the time I die. And, to some extent, it is in order. But here it is... The list for before I hit the hay for good. Only I'm leaving out the first one, and the last... You'll understand within time. When it is around time for it, I will post them. But there is a time for everything... And this just isn't the time for that.1

Hannah, if - no when - you wake up, I want you to see this, my plan for your 12th birthday. To help you accomplish everything on your list. Here's what I was going to do and still may do for each one:
    2. Be able to speak 3 languages other than English -
You'll learn another one. You've already got 1 and almost another down-pat. I know you can do it.

    3. Be in two places at once -
When you wake up, I have a way to help you do this.

    4. Come up with my own theory as to why there are colors in the sunset -
I'm sure you already have. That huge imagination of yours can think up anything.

    5. Get an Elvis Presley autograph from someplace - Donations from many people have given me the opportunity to buy one off of eBay.

    6. Get a purity ring -
When you wake up, we'll go shopping for one.

    7. Kiss a boy -
    You have. Me.

    8. Drive a car -
Someday, we'll go out in a field or something, and I'll let you drive my truck.

    9. Go shopping for a doll, one special doll - I know the one you've wanted for the longest time. I've saved up my money, along with a few donations from friends, to buy it. I'm going to buy it for you, even though it's so expensive. You're worth it.

    10. Go to India, or Spain or Italy -
I'll take you there some day, to all three.

    11. Witness a miracle -
You have. Every day YOU live is a miracle. You ARE a miracle.

    12. See an angel -
Hannah, every time you look in a mirror, you've seen an angel.

    13. Meet Superchick -
I have concert tickets for us.

    14. Get published -
You have the talent to do so, and I don't doubt that you will someday.

    15. Record a song -
I would love to help you do that.

    16. Have my family all together again, like it should have been -
Sadly, I can't REALLY do anything about this, but your being in the hospital has sure brought us together more. I met your mom. She's a nice person.

    17. To have Will with me, by my bedside when I die -
I'll be there. You know I will.

    18. Go on a road trip -
We can do it. When you wake up, we'll do it. We'll travel the world.

    19. Go rock-climbing again19

    20. Go on a hot-air balloon ride -
I was and am planning on doing this for you.

    21. Save somebody's life -
That you did, Hannah. Mine. You saved my life. You're always the sunshine in every day I see you, even though that is not that often.

    22. Read Martyrs' Mirror the whole way through -
I'll read it to you, and you can count it because in your current state you can't read it... Even though I know that when you wake up you'll read it for yourself anyway.

    23. Create a cure for cancer -
You have... Being happy. Being like you always are.

    24. Give every child the childhood they deserve -
That's something you can't do on your own. But by hearing your story, kids can have that sense of safety and innocence again...

I love it!! Yet... it's sad at the same time. Very good dreams and goals, and I do hope you accomplish all of them. Oh, and now I understand why you always say love, hope, and the Hay List.
