Deus ex Machina ~ Bass Beat Dreams~

Pure adrenaline... It was time...  The steady thump of the deep bass beat pounded against his senses.  All around him lights flashed and moved in liquid synch with the music.  Breaths came in sharp repetition.  Sweat gleamed under the unnatural lights as they swept over the crowd.  Wedged between ring and forefinger of each hand were glow sticks.  Such was the magic of such objects, that he could create flowing snakes of multicolored light.  It amazed him to no end how such simple things could create such beauty.1

The song changed and he slowed momentarily to adapt to the new beat.  He floated in a cloud of moving, shining bodies, propelled by the synth slides and falls of the songs.  As if in a dream, he watched as his hands moved with a life of their own around an invisible orb.  Deep purple fluorescence mixed with fiery reds in twists and spirals, not unlike that of a DNA strand.  He sped up in the sheer joy of being alive; the glow sticks leaving a trail of light in their wake.  Reality was optional here.2

Minutes, hours, days?  How long had he been dancing?  It didn’t matter.  He intended to continue for as long as he could.  There was no option to stop.  It was his soul he wove in the air before him.  From above, a laser light system activated and began to paint pictures of red light on the crowd below, its patterns rivaling his own.  He spotted his friend and began to move toward her, dancing the entire time.  After a second he stopped.  Why should she share in his sudden freedom?  With a slight shrug he moved back to his original position.  A cheer rose from the crowd as the fog machines were turned on.  3

It began as a light mist, growing thicker by the moment, giving the lights and glow sticks an unnatural aura.  It all felt right.  This was his religion, this was his way of life, and this was his sin.  Another night, another day, dance the lights, let the music play.  He knew himself here, there was no confusion as to his purpose; dance, feel, exist.  These were his orders.  He carried them out joyfully.  The song reached an apex and went into a solo beat.  He followed with eyes aflame with passion as it accelerated into complexity.4

Muscles tense, eyes distant, he lost all fear, fury, and pain.  There was nothing but the music.  Nothing but the beat of the bass, nothing but the glow sticks.  All around him the people were one as the song spoke of flowing lights and freedom.  He slowed as the song did, building slowly, tension rising, ready to explode.  The crest broke and a chaotic frenzy of light, sound, and color arose around him.  With a cry to the heavens, he joined the frenzy.5

He was a Deus ex Machina, and this was his creation...6

Let there be light...7
