CHAPTER FIVE1
Kate was right. We were moving. And at a pretty fast speed as well. I can see why she was scared. I was too. “What’s going on?” I asked her. 2
“I have no idea. I just woke up and we were moving. I guess the driver couldn’t see us in the back.” He swerved around a corner, and Kate and I slid across the seat into the passenger side’s door. 3
“Ouch!” Kate hit her elbow on the window when she slid. Suddenly, the driver slammed the brakes. The car skidded across the road a little, and then rolled off the road. It finally stopped and the driver reached into the back. He felt around for a while, and grabbed my leg and Kate’s arm.4
“Oi! What the bloody hell are ya’s doin’ in me car?”5
Still really scared, Kate managed to quietly, get out a few words. “We... uh... we needed somewhere…” She started crying, and barely managed to finish the rest of the sentence. “…somewhere to sleep last night.”6
“Well what are ya still doin’ here? Get out!” The crazy man waved his arm around, trying to hit one of us, but Kate had moved out of reach, and he couldn’t find me anymore. 7
We’d got in through the front door and climbed over the seat to get in here the night before, so both of the back doors were still locked. We were both frantically searching for the locks but couldn’t see anything and couldn’t find them anywhere on the entire side panels.8
“I said get out! NOW!” He was really getting angry. He wouldn’t be patient with us for much longer now. Still searching for the locks, I could hear the driver searching for something under his seat. 9
“W-w-we can’t” I stuttered. “The d-doors d-don’t open”10
“No bloody excuses mate, just get out.” The rustling sound seemed to have stopped. I was getting worried that he may have found what he was actually searching for. “You’ve got until I count to 10 to get out…”11
“We can’t” I was shouting now. “Just give us a minute”12
“1…2…3…” His tone got angrier with every number he spoke. “4…6…7”13
“You missed 5 buddy. Maybe you should start again.”14
“You don’t wanna mess with me ya little shit! I’ll blast ya little heads off!” Suddenly, I heard the barrel of a rifle. He was loading a gun. Surely he wasn’t going to kill us.15
“Pleeease don’t hurt us.” Kate begged. “We did nothing wrong.” She was extremely scared, more-so than when the plane cabin was open. She hugged me much tighter than before. “I’m going to die. I know it.” She was crying more than ever now.16
“You’re not going to die Kate” I tried to assure her. “I’ll make sure nothing happens to you.”17
“I feel so scared though.” I could barely make out the words through her tears.18
“Are we though this little love-fest now?” He screamed before he continued counting. “4…5…” He was pissed that I’d picked him up on his counting, and really shouted the 5. He continued. “6...7…8…9…”19
“Um…” I way trying to distract the man, but couldn’t think of anything to say. “Just don’t shoot us!” I quickly ducked, and pulled Kate down with me. 20
“Don’t try and save me” Kate muttered. “It’s not worth it. I’ve come close to death too many times on this journey.” She sat up again.21
“You’re not going to die. I promise.” I felt around to try and find where the gun was pointed. It was aimed directly into her face. I turned the barrel towards the side of the car, and pulled Kate down again.22
“Stop it Shane” Kate cried. “Let me die.”23
“You don’t mean it. You have so much to live for.” It was really hard to try and convince her to live. The maniac with a gun certainly wasn’t helping.24
“Oh yeah, like what?” She was getting sarcastic with me now. “My life’s a wreck. I’m all alone. I’m alone at work, sentenced to serve customers who treat me like shit for a crappy wage. I’m single. I was kicked outta home last week.” She started crying again. “So tell me Shane, what the hell have I got to live for?”25
“Well” I said hesitantly “I love you Kate. I don’t want to lose you.” I replied. “I know we haven’t known each other for long, but I really feel a connection with you.”26
“It’s too late Shane. I’ve made up my mind.” 27
The old man piped up again. “Damn it… this is not the time to be saying that crap. I will seriously blow ya brains out. Now where was I?” He clearly wasn’t the smartest man around. “8…9…10…” I tried to pull Kate back down but she resisted and stayed up, making me vulnerable at the same time. He fired a shot. 28
Luckily, it was pitch black, so he had no idea where he was actually shooting. And he never noticed that I moved the barrel. It sounded like it hit the front passenger window.29
“What sort of a shot was that?” Kate yelled. “Didn’t you hear me? I want to die.”30
“Um…Okaay” the man wearily replied. He reloaded the gun, and aimed it right at Kate’s head. “Is this better?”31
I could feel Kate feeling around to find the gun, because she accidentally hit me a couple of times as well. “Much better. Now get it over with”32
“No Kate! Please don’t!” I screamed.33
“Do it.”34
“Nooooooo” I wailed, much louder. “For the love of god, don’t pull the fucking trigger!”35
He pulled the trigger.

Oh my god! Wow! Now that is a killer cliff hanger ending for this chapter. Poor Kate when she was talking about her life. I'm dying to know what happens next in this story. That man with the gun is such a jerk.
