Distorted Hourglass Final Part

Stephan pulls down his sleeve, with tears streaming down his rosy, red cheeks.  Charisse is in shock!  A few minutes later, a nurse comes in to take her vitals.  They have all stabilized. 1

"Well my dear, it looks like you can move away from the ICU and move into a normal room today.  Would you like to do that or would you rather stay in this stuffy room?  For awhile there, us nurses didn't think you were gonna make it past last night.  But you did.  You are a real survivor.  It's a miracle that should be owed to the Lord above!"  the nurse says as she walks away to tell the orderly to get Charisse's room ready for her entrance.2

After Charisse is moved into her new room on the fifth floor, her doctor enters.3

"Well Charisse, you have certainly beaten the odds girl! None of us here thought that you would make it, as I am sure you have been told!  I have reviewed your charts and I have some good news and some bad news for you.  The good news is that your baby will survive and should be full-term but the bad news is that due to the fact that you took all them Valium, your child will be born brain damaged and challenged. I am so sorry. But the nurses here at the hospital grew to love you so much, we have compiled a take home kit for you and your family.  It includes a whole case of diapers, formula, shampoo,laundry soap, bottles, and other baby neccessities.  It also contains some books on the many child disorders that occur everyday in this world.  We hope you will continue to take care of yourself, and when you have that baby, you bring it here so we can all see it, okay?"  the doctor asks her as she shakes her hand.4

Charisse starts crying uncontrollably. She doesn't know whether to be happy or to be sad.  She just realized that there are people in this world that would be saddened if she were to leave it.5

The next few days pass by in a blur.  It seems as though she just got settled into her new room when the orderly was coming by to tell her she was discharged.  Stephan starts to pack her belongings and heads out the door to get the car ready to take his daughter and unborn grandson home.  After he gets the car ready, he goes to the nurses station to sign the papers to discharge Charisse.   Charisse is wheeled out to the car by the orderly, who has become her favorite since arriving her 8 days ago.  6

"Now we don't want you to come back here, unless you have that beautiful baby in your arms ready to show us what a good job you did! You hear me know young lady?"  the orderly says7

"Yes sir.  I hear you loud and clear!" Charisse says with a smile on her face.  The first smile that has come across her face since her mother died. 8

All is quiet in the car on the way home.  Stephan is approaching a stop light, when all of a sudden a red convertiable comes out of nowhere.  All of a sudden all you hear is the screams of a father and a daughter trapped in a horrific car accident!9

Stephan automatically sits up.  A cold sweat breaks out upon his body.  He takes a second to realize where he is exactly.  He is at home under his nice warm covers with his new wife next to him in the bed.  His daughter is sleeping soundly in the next room.  Stephan hops off the bed and puts on his slippers and creeps into his daughters room.  He walks over by her bed to the bassinet.  In it are two precious children a boy and a girl.  He strokes their hair and covers them up.  He walks over to the plague that he created with their names on it.  Bayli Joseph and Alexandra Jaymi. He places his fingers on the smooth wood and a single tear falls down his cheek.  He goes over to his daughter's bed and gives her a kiss on her forehead.  He then saunters back to bed and falls fast asleep!10
