Dream a Little Dream

It’s been a hot day, and in the sweltering heat I take a nap. The table fan spins vigorously, the fastest it can go, yet I wish its blades could churn out a winter-cool breeze. I pull my shirt up, exposing my midriff, and the sudden coolness that hits my skin offers a new form of relief. I’m half awake worrying about the workload I am to complete, and half shedding the tiresome day away with a dream. I think it’s a skill I possess that not many people know about - thinking and worrying about life while dreaming. 1

When I was in school and worried about a test the next day, I remember telling myself I would recite all the subject matter that I had memorized in my sleep. Oddly enough, I did do as planned in my sleep, and woke up the next morning slightly relieved. Maybe that’s why my sister used to say I was weird; perhaps she knew something I didn’t. 2

Sometimes I make decisions in my sleep. There are days when too many things clog my not-very-sane mind, and I feel terribly uneasy. When two events are happening at the same time and I’m torn between both, I reason out which one to attend the night before. I guess that would personify the term ‘to sleep on it’. Somehow reasoning ideas and decisions during a night’s rest has some sort of fulfillment. 3

I hear the thunder claps out my window now, and the strong tap of rain on the railing. The heat slowly dissolves into coolness. The fan feels overworked now. I open my eyes wide from the sudden change, and remember I have to pick a place for dinner tonight. I toss to the side and snuggle under the sheets.

from the first line, the first word that came to mind was summer.
I found it interesting - but there just wasn'tenough of a storyline for me to feel emotions about.
