Opening Night of my Final Act

I want my life to end tonight1

On a dark stage2

With only a dusty spotlight3

To let the audience see4

I want to hear my final note5

Played by an orchestra of 6

Forty nine hundred and ninety-eight people7

One for each day8

They’re all wearing black so9

They can go straight to the funeral10

After the show11

There has to be a violin solo12

As a lover slowly takes a knife to my waist13

With one hand14

The notes are high 15

When the blood is first drawn16

And the notes are low17

When I moan in pleasure18

Because my lover kisses me 19

And my blood 20

As he works21

Another violinist joins in22

When My lover uses his other hand 23

To caress me gently in 24

All the right places25

You can hear a cello in the background26

It sets the mood for deep passion27

The flutes sound like cries 28

Twisted with pain 29

And pleasure 30

Or perhaps there are no flutes31

Just cries32

Xylophones are played quickly33

Each time the mallet strikes 34

So does the knife and more blood is drawn35

The tension is in the air36

The drums beat faster 37

And so does my heart38

For the moment39

Clarinets can be heard40

I think41

They sound so soft42

Just like the whispered43

“I love you”44

I want it now45

The audience has reached 46

A dangerous excitement47

At the ecstasy on the stage48

The orchestra plays faster and louder 49

Not louder then me with my cries of joy50

Until my cries are silenced51

With that violin again52

The orchestra puts down their instruments53

To hear a talk about me 54

I loved music so much55

Violins most of all56

The violinist hides her smile57

I loved the stage 58

And it loved me to death59

No one weeps for real60

But the tears fall 61

Just for the show62

They close the curtain63

And the coffin64

Thunderous applause shakes the stage65

Just for opening night 66

And I can’t bow67

Or thank you all68

For coming to my show69

Author notes

This is one I am REALLY REALLY REALLY proud of, and I've had fun with friends that read my writing. Certain parts could pass for a dirty mindedness test...and several people failed

Am I any good at non rhyming poems
