Beating Of My Heart

He pulled me into the drum room, closing the door with slow curiosity as if I would run away. I stayed put without moving an inch from where he had placed me. No sound came from my body besides the pounding of my heart. I’m sure he couldn’t hear it, but it seemed as if a drum was being smashed on behind me, or inside of me. I slipped a glance around me, just to check for the drum, but I seemed to center in on his eyes. The colors seemed to flux from a ragged gray to a sensual black, but it settled on a clear bronze shade. 1

As his eyes came to mine, the drum in my heart started to go faster, louder, and more exciting. I moved my had up towards my chest, laying it on my heart beating so hard, fast, loud, and attacking my breath. I suddenly brought my breaths in and out faster and louder with my drum, pausing for not even his stare. I continued to raise my other hand to my heart, my breathing shuddering into short gasps. He saw this, slowly walking the short distance to my body while looking straight into my eyes. 2

When he finally came to me, he reached his right hand slowly reached towards my grouping of shaking fingers. He wrapped his hand around my own left hand, bringing it away from my racing heart. He saw it shake as he brought it closer to him, placing my hand on his own heart. 3

“What is wrong?” He pierced though my eyes, trying to see through the reality of what was going on. “Why are you shaking so badly?” 4

I avoid the question with a quick “I’m fine,” but started to concentrate on other things. I followed my hand placed on his chest. As I pulled out my own heart beat, another thumping was felt. Not only was my drum loud, proud, and out of control, but just my touch freaked him out. It was kind of relieving, and it broke the moment when I started to laugh.5

As I coughed and hacked out little, shaking laughs, he looked at me with a funny stare. I wiped away a tear, but I came back to continue what had happened.6

“Where were we?” I whispered in his ear. I grabbed his little, tiny hands and gently put them on my chest. As his own body started to shake, I caught a glimpse of his face. As dark as the room was, I could tell that his face was coated with red paint or he was blushing. I guessed that he was blushing, so I couldn’t help but smile. 7

“What are you smiling about? It better be something I did.” His face changed into a smile, and he moved his arms around my neck, bringing me closer to his face.8

“Obviously! Who else can make me smile like this?” I could feel heat burst come to my face, forcing my heart to speed out of control. I slowly looked from my heart, to his chest, and then to his face. Nothing was out of place, a perfect of view of his smile and happy eyes. Nothing could change this.9

“You know, I have wanted to hear that for awhile,” he whispered into my ear, fidgeting his foot position.10

“Why is that? Something on your mind?”11

“Somewhat. Got sometime?” The fact that he said this made me laugh.12

“I would think so because you drug me into the drum room. Everyone must think we are crazy.”13

“Who cares?”14

“Well, it doesn’t matter, but I guess they are probably thinking we are doing something weird…”15

“Well, I need to say something, and I prefer that nobody else hears…yet.” He fidgeted again.16

“Ok…what’s up?” He slowly looked away from me with a biting of his lip. He gripped his arms together tighter around my neck, pulling me closer and closer to his already red face. He seemed to want to bring me as close as we would go, but he stopped right before anything happened. He wanted to move onward, but his body hesitated. His breathe was unsteady, shivering under all the invisible pressure. Soon it pushed him down to my shoulder with a gentle push of his forehead. I never once fell under the constant pressure of his weight. Never did I want to show that I wasn’t there. 17

“Ummmm…,” He continued to hesitate his words, nothing coming out of his mind. “I just really wanted to say something, but I’m just so nervous, and, if you promise not to tell, to be honest, I’m a little scared that something might just happen that doesn’t go as I want. You following me?”18

“I’m getting it so far. Is there something I can do to help?” I didn’t move, but I wanted to just make everything better. As my words slipped out, I could almost feel the relief leave his body. He unwrapped on of his hands as he brought his face upwards. The hanging hand slipped to my shoulder as the other one went on my face, placed on the check bone and tracing it with one finger gently. It slid up and down my face for a few silent moments till his whispers broke through.19

“Please…just listen to me.” He breathed in and started. “Hey, you know, when you finally know something for sure, but you don’t know how to say it. Yea. That is me right now. The only thing I know for sure is everything around me is starting to fall in place cause of someone. Do you have an idea how amazing it feels to finally know how you feel about someone? It is right up there with finding like a million dollars on the ground or something. It is irreplaceable.”20

Silence covered the room.21

“May I ask who the lucky girl is?” My voice faded as soon as my mind realized I asked the question. As my heart raced, the answer I hoped for ran through my mind as his lips reassured me with a smile. His face moved just a centimeter away, holding back the last second.22

“You, silly,” he rushed into his speech, holding onto the last moment we could open our eyes and keep our stares together.23

And we kissed.24

Just so it be known, this was an earlier entry to this contest and she accidentally took it out. I'm noting this due to there are no prewrites to this contest and with the slip up, this now shows it is a prewrite. When in actuallity it was written for this contest.

You didn't accidentally remove it did you? Let me know when you are on when I'm on and I will allow you to put yours in as a prewrite since it was written for my contest. Then after it is back in my contest, I will close the PW to all. If anyone thinks this was a PW, then they can see that I have already commented on it when it was in the contest. So please let me know when we are on at the same time so we can get this corrected

I love true love and you sure displayed it here with the "beating of your heart as if it were a drum." I am absolutely a huge fan of love. There are a couple of typos that won't be held against you, but may be helpful to the reader with a better transition if they are corrected. There's a place where you use 'had' and meant 'hand,' 'on' where it should have been 'one,' and 'check' where it should read 'cheek.'

The line where he was wearing read paint told me he was blushing, but then it was followed by 'or he was blushing.' Not to be to critical here, but when I knew his face was painted red, I had gathered he was blushing. However, if you want to make the audience be certain, then take out 'or he was blushing' and replace it with '(as you could tell he was blushing).' The word 'or' definitely does not need to be used as you wish for the reader to understand that the 'red paint' analogy represents the blushing. Hope you understand that I'm trying to be constructive with my criticism and not mean in any way. I truly want to thank you for entering my "Your First Love" contest!
