Detectives stood over Ginney's bloodstained body. Pulling on a pair of rubber gloves a gray haired man stood with a leg on each side of her body. "Was there any identification found on the victim's body?" he asked looking back at one of his fellow detectives. 1
"Yes, sir," She replied handing him Ginney's license, "She was also holding this, Sir. The woman handed the case to the old man. "What do you suppose this is all about, John?" she inquired peering over his shoulder.2
John opened the velvet case and revealed the ring inside. "Perhaps, the young couple were to be married." he said placing the ring and the case into a plastic bag. 3
"You mean to say that she rejected him?"4
"Yes, Amy. Rejection does happen. Maybe, just maybe, this asshole had asked her to marry him. She rejected, and he got upset, he was enraged with anger, bashed her head in trying to convince her that he was the one and only man for her. That they were meant to be." 5
"John, you're a genius."6
"So, I've been told. Take this back to forensics, and get it checked out. We're going to find this creep."7
John looked over the licenses and read it aloud to himself "Ginney Marie Colbert, age 21." It seemed as if fireworks were exploding within his eyes. "For christ's sakes! She just turned 21," John raised his voice as if demanding answer from himself "What's wrong with this world?" 8
John watched as they carried Ginney's body away. He thought of his own daughter. What would happen to him if it would have been her. His innocent child, his only daughter. He began to look through the rest of Ginney's purse to find a small address book. Flipping through the pages of the book he suddenly stopped at a page. It had Dave's name written on it as a contact for emergencies. She had drawn little hearts around his name. "Amy!" he called out "Amy, take a look at this. I think we found our culprit." 9
Amy took the book from his hands and stood there staring at Dave's name. David Andrews, she knew the name from somewhere. Amy pushed her red hair out of her face as she tried to remember where the name had came from. She handed John the book and pulled out her cell phone. As she quickly dialed her sister's number John questioned who she was calling in the middle of an investigation. She explained that she thought of her sister...she must have dated him. She remembered the name from somewhere.10
There was ringing for only a moment. A man answered the phone. "Daddy, can you get Sarah?" Amy said with a frantic tone. Her younger sister was on the phone in less than a few seconds. 11
"Amy?"12
"Yes, it's me Sarah. David Andrews, do you remember that name?"13
"Don't remind me of that asshole!" 14
"I knew it! He's the one!"15
"What are you talking about Aim?"16
"Never mind I just needed to know. I'll talk to you later."17
Amy hung up the phone and slipped it back into her pocket, and quickly walked along the crime scene. "The jerk dated my sister! He was a control freak. He abused her, but when he asked her to marry him...she rejected. She wasn't ready for a full-time relationship, and he couldn't accept that. He put her into the hospital, she was in coma for 3months" 18
"So, he has a violent background?," John purposed.19
"Yes, for God's sake keep up with me!"20
"You're one hard woman to keep up with!" 21
They drove back to the office in complete silence. Planning to pay this David Andrews a little visit. What if he'd left town already? What if he wasn't there? They're heart beats grew faster with excitement. This is what they lived for. The two of them had been bored for days without a crime to solve. They didn't mind the stress, and all the little sons-of-bitches they had to deal with when they had to examine a suspect or a friend of the person that had just been murdered. Amy especially didn't care about all that bullshit. She just wanted to get the asshole that did the crime. 22
They pulled up in front of the station. John parked the car. The two of them got out of the car and walked up to the door. John stepped in front of Amy and pulled the door open waiting for her to enter. He shut the door behind them. They reported to the captain, and got his okay on everything. 23
