Different Horse Different Sport

It was very cold, the ice on the other side of the valley where the 1

herd was located was ice ridden. In this cold weather it would be foolish to attempt crossing the pathways that led to the other side.2

“I guess I’ll have to seek shelter tonight and journey across the mountains tomorrow” he sighed. He ventured through the blizzard occasionally looking up to check his surroundings. With no sign of any safe haven he prepared to burrow himself deep within the snow to at least seek some sort of refuge. It was freezing at first, but then he tucked his silver, dappled legs underneath himself and preserved the last bit of warmth that there was. He settled down and readied himself for the long, frigid night.3

The "heard" is the wrong spelling in the second line. It should be "herd." In the second paragraph, be careful with the spacing of some of your "at" phrases, such as "at least" and "at first." Watch for the syntax. Often stories in this genre are mediocre, so watch out for falling into the same trap as many other authors. It has the potential to be good.
