Desrali walked from the center of town to his favorite hiding spot. Even though he was 16 he still needed one. A person could get killed at any moment in this world. the Shofi wars were still going strong, soldiers walked down the streets and shot whoever got in their way. Desrali went to a small crack in the wall. He pushed on one of the jagged stones hard and it gave way to show a room about five feet wide and six feet tall. He stepped into the dark room and pulled the stone back in place. There was no source of light in the tiny space. He didn't need light anyway, all he wanted to to was think.1
How could his sister get caught! She was one of the best spies he knew. She was also his only living relative left and now he didn't know if she was alive. The anger he felt was enough to make a light for him. A bright red light that warmed him and made him cry. He hit his head on the wall, but didn't feel the pain. He slide down to the floor, quiet. Slowly he went to sleep.2
"I don't want Desrali getting hurt", Gasawra said to the man standing in front of her. He'd just entered her cell one day last week and had been granting her wishes ever since. She couldn't say that she trusted the man, she didn't know his name.
"Gasawra,I'd do anything for you"
She couldn't take it anymore."Why?! I don't know you. You've been nothing but helpful to me, but really there has to be some other reason why you've been helping me"
The man stared at her for some time after that. It made her feel a tad uncomfortable.
"Because, you're going to die"
Maybe she was crazy or maybe she'd given up hope, but something in that statement made her smile.
"What is your name?"3
"Meilzy"4
"I love you, Meilzy, now go find my brother"5
Evans walked down the street at a hurried pace. What was he doing helping that girl? even as the question went though his mind he knew the answer. He loved her. He didn't know why he did, but he did. Maybe he should tell her that. She did say she loved him, but he didn't think she meant it. Oh well he had a job to do now.
Find Desrali, bring him back to her cell before she got executed. How was he going to find him anyway? She said look for a crack on a wall on main street. There were thousands, but eventually he found one that looked funny. He pushed hard and there in the crack was a dusty teenage boy curled in a ball sleeping.6
"Desrali, wake up"
He bent down and touched the boy on the sholder. Desrali jumped up,as much as the room would allow, turned and punched the man in the face."Who the hell are you?"
There was power in that punch that Evans didn't think possible for a boy Desrali's size. He rubbed his jaw and spit out some blood.
" My name is not important, I've come to help you."7
Desrali stared at the man he'd just punched He didn't look like he was from around these parts. First off he was clean, which was very uncommon. Then his eyes, they were ice blue. No one had blue eyes any more, not since the assassination of the king.
"What do you mean help me?"8
"Your sister,Gasawra, she wants to see you"9
His sister! He had to hide his excitement. So she was alive. But he didn't know this man and he could be lying.10
